walsh from killing their nine month old son chance. in september, she stood by as joseph beat and choked the son. after he died the pair buried him in a wooded area. >> she made a choice that day to let my tiny grandson chance die a horrible death. >> i feel this sentence is not harsh enough when we have been sentenced to a life of pain and nightmares. >> reporter: bury must testify against her husband joseph walsh. he is awaiting trial charged with second degree murder. in sarasota, john rogers, newschannel8. a nine week old yorkie stolen from a puppy store is being treated at a vet's office. a couple who bought her took her in after noticing she was sick, but a hidden microchip helped to find the true owner. our coverage played a major

>> reporter: wrapped up in a blanket this tiny female yorkshire terrier puppy is very ill. her week long odyssey ended at the partridge animal hospital in saint petersburg where a couple who named her cookie brought her in for care. a vet tech here saw 8 on your side coverage about the missing pup, scanned for a microchip that came back to all about puppies. kennel manager bridget royal got the call. >> my heart is pounding like someone is actually calling and asking about it. they said we have your dog and i said what? >> reporter: security cameras caught the thief in action. this is wayne barfield stuffing the puppy under his sweater and leaving. the puppy has internal bleeding, a lung infection, and parasite, but her prognosis is good. police believe they have solved two cold cases that have been open in one case nearly eight years.

front of his lakeland home in 2008. jamal flemming was murdered in 2015. police believe they made three arrests in the cases thank to the public's help. >> even the smallest tidbit of information can be that key to solve a crime. so, there is nothing that we would not want people to come forward and tell us. the smallest bit of information >> the lakeland police department is still working 30 more cold cases and they tell us they are following leads in some of those cases as well. two murders in manatee county are related. deputies found the body of karl tuxford in a car in bradenton yesterday and they believe someone shot and killed him. shortly after his body was found, someone found the body of jordan finland. investigators believe finland knew her killer. facebook posts show she was going through a difficult time

driving under the influence in florida could cost you more. more than 80% of floridians arrested for dui refuse breathalyzer test but a new bill aims to discourage that. they want to hit them for a $500 fine for refuseing the breath test, but some are questioning if there is constitutional. >> it flies in the face of the spirit of the fourth amendment you could be pulled over and forced to give evidence of yourself. in the annual state of the port address, officials revealed bulk shipping is up. but the number of cruise passenger is down in tampa, but 8 on your side wanted to know what is the port doing to prepare for future business with cuba? jeff patterson went looking for answers. >> the state of this port is good.

government decides trade can exist between here and there. jeff patterson, newschannel8. today, two people in sarasota stepped up to help a family devastated by sunday's deadly tornado. katrina christiansen and carl corey are friends of the neighbors of steve and katie wilson who were killed. they went to help the family recover items after the storm and found a frame. they took it home, sanded it down, painted it, and gave it back to the family. >> they were in tears and emotional and thankful that somebody did something like that. especially a stranger who doesn't know the family at all. i'm a friend of a friend of the neighbors. >> now that flame will be displayed at the funeral for the couple. i was waiting for your intro.

head through the weekend. so there is this area of low pressure shifting east bringing more showers an storms to the gulf coast regions thursday. and we start the see snow develop in places like atlanta and anywhere from one to two feet of snow in places like washington dc through the end of this weekend. this cold front moves through our area as well. it will affect us mainly on friday. so, for tonight, fairly mild temperatures near average. close to 50 degrees. mostly cloudy by tomorrow afternoon with highs into the low 70s thanks to the southwesterly flow. showers and storms starting up in the late morning hours continuing into the afternoon. this pushes out and by saturday, we could see a couple of sprinkles but generally, going to be looking at mostly cloudy skies. it will feel chilly with highs only in the upper 50s . it will feel windy and much cooler than that through the day.
