good evening we begin with breaking news. a home invasion in a gated community that left two people with serious injuries. it all happened at a home on middle fair way drive in the silver thorn community just off the sun coast highway in spring hill. eagle 8 flew over the scene. two people had to be air lifted to the hospital. they've taken one person into

person is the only suspect and that the public is not in danger. we are going to keep you updated here on wfla.com. an uber drive ended with the driver behind bars. he pointed a gun at his own passenger. >> reporter: manati county deputy says uber driver patrick mcdonald took things too far. he carried two passengers when one of them complained of feeling sick. mcdonald did not want vomit in his $75,000 car. so as they began arguing mcdonald pulled out a gun. >> he was nervous. that something night happen. >> reporter: instead what happened was mcdonald was arrested. >> the lesson would be, don't pull your gun out unless you're frightened for your life. and, this according to the

rise to that level. >> reporter: mcdonald has been charged with aggravated assault and robbery. john rogers, newschannel 8. tonight there's a new development in the cold case of a pinellas county woman who disappeared two years ago. investigators tell us the only suspect in that case jerry gaston has died. he owned the home where roberta cable was last seen. they say gaston made inconsistent statements and eventually refused to talk. deputies hope that now gaston is gone someone may be willing case. two people in largo is recovering from overdoses of a drug that has a pretty name but has not so pretty outcomes. >> reporter: don't let the pretty name fool you, molly is molecular. and goes by mlda.

individuals are taking the drug it's not actually what they think they're taking. >> reporter: the weekend largo molly overdoses point for the need for parents to be vigilant to guard against a similar indense. they believe the two victims knew each other, which means they could have taken the drug from the same batch. >> the drug is caught with all kinds of chemical compounds. and even drugs like heroin. >> reporter: i checked with the pinellas county sheriff's office to see if there's been an up tick on molly use and there wasn't. but the up tick is in synthetic drugs.

shannon behnken has been following for months and tonight she tells me why it didn't end the way people thought. >> reporter: in the end there was no decision. here's the way the defendants responded to our questions on the way out of court. what do you guys hope to accomplish? >> what do you think is going to happen here? do you have anything to say. >> reporter: glen and katherine jason were found guilty in october. this after the investigation uncovered that they sold and lied about a sink hole under the house. a family with five children moved in and had to move out when the home cracked. the buyers want all of this to be over. >> so what's your reaction to what happened today? how do you think it's going so far. >> i don't know, it's very

so that's some great news for this evening also looking a- okay. temperatures in the upper 60s. mostly cloudy skies around. but the rain is really going to begin much later tonight really into tomorrow morning is the time frame we're looking at as it comes to the showers moving in. you may want a light jacket if you're about to head out for the evening. it's 69 in tampa. 66 in zephyr hills. we're coming in at 69 in sarasota. outside you can see the cloud dry. can't rule out some sprinkles developing as we head into the later evening hours but there's the front we're tracking. that's the rainmaker. still well off to our west. it's not until tomorrow morning when that moves in and brings us a really actually great chance of showers and storms all the way through the day. so with this cold front not only are we going to be seeing showers and storms on wednesday. temperatures also dropping as

helen spencer dade is used to caring for sick animals like this one. on a numerous amount of times people dropped off animals at her doorstep. >> we fix them up, adopt them out. in some cases it's more than we can handle at the time. maybe we still have other animals to adopt or we don't have room. >> reporter: she's called animal services to pick them up. >> i was told it was my job since i was a vet. it was my job. >> reporter: a month earlier the same guy left a load of cats, several months earlier someone else discarded some cats. according to dr. allence the county's response is not only slow it's stunning. >> i was shocked quite frankly.

we got a close up look at a newly hatched baby eagle today. live cameras in north fort myers broadcast the eggs hatching just after seven -- 7:00 this morning. and there's another egg still unhatched in the nest. the proud mama is harriet and the father m17. the cold front and storms will begin here in the tampa bay area. temperatures will be mild through the day but expect the cloud cover to expect to stay with us all day long and expect to see on and off showers and storms. we're going to be dealing with pockets of very heavy storms. the front moves into the area morning. the showers and storms continue all the way into wednesday afternoon. and with the front still

disturbance on thursday we'll still see light lingering showers. it's not until friday when we really see the cooler and drier air move in. and of course rain chances come to an end as we head into friday as well. taking a look at our forecast model. mild temperatures for this evening. cloudy skies overnight. you can see showers and storms starting up during the overnight hours. continuing through the day. rain will be heavy at times. could see some isolated severe storms as well. we're in the marginal risk from the spc so it's not out of the question. thursday i don't think we'll really see the stormy weather but we'll still see the extra cloud cover and light lingering showers through the day with highs only into the upper 60s. the clouds clear out and the drier and cooler air returns as we head into friday with highs in the 60s. showers and storms starting up tomorrow morning. really gong to be a wash out of the day. could see any any where from
