>> and live in iowa as we count down to the iowa caucuses. >> and a boxing champ not winning this round in an epic court fight. >> thank you for joining us this evening. a pinnel at county deputy is off the job and facing an attempted manslaughter charge after the sheriff says he lied about a shooting incident. it happened in late december. the former deputy turned himself in. >> reporter: by all accounts, former deputy timothy burden was a good cop but he told a wild story about a man who tried to get his gun and then he had to shoot him. after stopping a car for a suspected drunk driver, dylan thompkins started mouthing off. you can see deputy burden and another deputy escort him with his pants falling down to a

while the shooting is offcamera, you can hear what happened next. [ gunfire ] >> reporter: immediately after the shooting, the sheriff defended his guys, claiming thompkins while handcuffed grabbed burden's gun, forcing burden to shoot him. tonight we know it didn't happen that way. >> in order for this to have happened, he has to have taken his hands, come around like this, been able to while handcuffed do this, do this, do this, and is then get the gun out. didn't happen. >> reporter: the sheriff tells me deputy burden seen here from his days as a st. petersburg police officer, acted contrary to law and fabricated the events of that night. and there was a good witness. >> deputy randall was there the entire time. and testified that dylan was mouthy, but he never offered any active resistance and never reached for or touched deputy burden's gun. >> reporter: the sheriff told me there was not a struggle for

deputy burden to believe he was in any danger for his life. as for thochl kins holmes, he -- thompkins holmes, he suffered two gunshot wound, spent weeks in a hospital, and has no insurance. the sheriff is offering to pay all his medical bills. >> reporter: when asked about his version of event, former deputy burden told investigators he felt thochl kin holmes would -- thompkins hold would kin, wound, or injure him. that's no reason to shoot him. police are on the scene of a suspicious death. investigators tell us one person was found dead inside a budget inn. another was found alive in the motel room along with two monkeys. no arrests have been made in this case. we'll update you.

after last night's final deputy, all the republican presidential candidates are busy krisz crossing -- crisscrossing iowa. >> keith ca,e -- live from iowa. and you were up early, as well as the candidates. >> reporter: it's the central time zone so it seem better but we still stayed up late last night, early start to the day. nothing compared to these candidates. we caught up with hillary clinton at a really today. we're gonna report on that for you at 6:00. very interesting rally for her. a man in iowa is a political force. he is the editor, the opinion editor of the des moines register and he and his board of directors decided that they would enforce hillary clinton and marco rubio for president. i wanted to know, why these two?

decision and how will that influence the voters in iowa? >> why marco rubio? >> well, we spent two interviews with senator rubio, and we felt he was the best one for the general election to, union fight parties, and is his forward-looking vision i think persuaded us that he could attract independents which is republicans desperately need this time, as well as the conservative base of the party. >> but you also endorse hillary clinton. bernie sanders has created a lot of buzz in iowa. i described him almost like a rockstar of sorts. but you went with hillary. why? >> well, we met with her twice two. i think we spent more than three hours with her. and i think -- she is so good and so smart, and so qualified, and. we we had to go with her. and it's a lot of democrats right now are saying head

and we said you gotta go with your head in this case. i think on both sides, some people will say it was a tepid endorsement on both. we felt it was challenging and said here are things they need to work on. >> reporter: so who's gonna win iowa? >> ha! [ laughter ] >> the first rule, you don't make predictions about iowa. the poll comes out saturday afternoon. and the history shows that iowans wait until the end. i feel good about rubio because of the momentum he has. i think he did well enough in the debate. he got some attention. and so i think things are swinging his way. i think the lack of debate on trump's part will cost him some points. >> reporter: trump did not

then these rential areas already have the no parking zones. today as well. be on the lookout for that. and the route runs from bay to bay all the way into downtown. we've got the invasion as well. general. you'll always be able to get to the hospital. it continues, whips around the kass street. keep that in mind, gonna be very busy. you can always take the hart bus service. downtown. the in-town trolley is free. street. that helps you get around as well. and you've got the streetcar into downtown. pass.

if you bundle up, it'll be pretty, and some high clouds to hula bay. 64 degrees on the tampa side. our current weekend overall, a chilly start to the day. if you're gonna be up at sunrise, keep in mind you'll need a jacket for the early start to the day. 73 degrees on sunday, partly cloudy skies to mostly cloudy conditions at times with the high clouds. rain chances are out of there this weekend. certainly dry, but these are very, very comfortable temperatures. at 11:30 for the invasion, 63 degrees, a few high cloud, still on the cool side, 69 our forecast there at 2:00 pm. very nice throughout the parade and invasion timetable. and the water conditions too with an area of high pressure over us. we like a light chop or no chop. tony colsn, always gives us fantastic shots.

57 degrees at 7:00 pm. 56 at 9:00 pm. gonna be a cooler evening with a mix of some high clouds and clear skies. cooler than previous evenings because the air is much drier. that cold front well down to the south. 48 degrees, which is exactly what we had this morning, a cool start to the day, with the sunshine balanced out real nicely. 61 degrees in temple terrace. 61 riverview, 62 apollo beech. brooksville 61 degrees. venice 59 degrees. a good tropical flow of these high clouds. these are generally made of ice craftals flowing high life -- crystals flowing high above. this far south it's carrying all this moisture our way. and that's what you're seeing in the sky. dry air across the northern part of the state. high above in the atmosphere. lots of sun, but some of the high clouds have obscured some of the clearer skies here across south florida. high pressure continues back to

that's what's been giving us more of a northwesterly flow. that high will shift over us for tomorrow, just calm wind conditions, great for the boaters, and just lighter wind which makes it more pleasant. high pressure over us for saturday. beautiful day. streamy looking high clouds. same for sunday. more of a southeasterly flow. that's a warming trend that will carry into monday, tuesday. a few extra clouds into sunday. and monday more of the same. moisture comes back, a few more clouds. temperatures are nice and warm. 76 by monday. 64 degrees for a high saturday, 73 for a high on sunday. great weekend plan, slowly gets a bit milder. the usual routine once we run these fronts through the area. a bit more extreme with the el nio this year. the warmer water that cools in the pacific and changes worldwide weather patterns. we throw out el nio a lot so i

nissan is recalling many of its altimas due to a latch that can cause the hood to fly open while driving.

causing it to remain open. the new recall actually 2015. some of them were already recalled twice before. mcdonald's is apologizing about its new mozzarella sticks. some of the sticks issuing served up without any cheese. some customers shared photos. the cheese may have melted out during the baking process. the company admits those sticks should not have been served. and it apologizes. so it's girl scout cookie time, and this year you can pair them with wine. best idea ever. a wine app allows users to photograph wine labels and get ratings and reviews. now it pairs girl scout cookies with wine. >> samoas.
