claims to be associated with the st. petersburg malitia group. a one boy -- the boy is recovering at the hospital. josh thomas fills us in on what happened. >>reporter: a weekend of camping by a local boy scout troop -- who had been involved in a boating accident. they were traveling down the river when they hit an object flipping the boat sending both into the water. they rushed to the aid of the two providing first aide until ems arrived. >> i fell back into my training and said this is what we need to do. get the kid warmed up. >> the 7-year-old was breathing but taken to the children's hospital where he's in intensive care unit. >> they believe their training helped save that child. in manatee county, josh thomas,

a litter of 8 puppies is recovering at the humane society after a good samaritan rescued them from the side of the road. all 8 pups were septic. each suffers from extreme mange. it will take four to six week to recovery. they're asking them to spray the -- dumping pets is a crime. the gasparilla parade is over, but crews are working to clean up that trash. tampa solid waste department tells us they've removed 40 tons so far. volunteers pitched in to pick beads out of trees. the florida aquarium coordinating volunteers to clean up trash in the water because of the threat to marine life. let's check with your

meteorologist -- >> we're looking at warm conditions. punxsutawney predicts that spring will begin early. he didn't see his shadow. anything to let you know winter will end earlier. we're seeing warmer temperatures. the last couple of days has been above average. sun city center, 83 degrees on this second day of february. winds light out of the east at 5 miles-per-hour. a lot of us dealing with temperatures in the 80s. milder along the coast. 79 in largo, but 81 in temple terrace. 85 in apollo beach and milder, 76 in sarasota this afternoon. some pretty warm temperatures around. we've had the southeasterly flow over the last couple of days and that allowed warmer air to move in. we have pretty moist air now. deepening moisture happening

points are up, so it feels muggy out this afternoon. >> summer weather. >> it is summer weather at least a little brief taste of some summer weather. >> and the normal weather comes back. >> we have cooler weather coming back. we're not dealing with this. keith and an 8 on your side crew are covering the caucuses in iowa right now and that's where this very cold looking shot comes from. we're told some of the flights were delayed and also the blowing snow is lowering visibility at the iowa state capitol. yikes. winter wonderland causing travel delays and it's a struggle when you're trying to travel in conditions like that of course. for us, a completely different story here in the tampa bay area. we're looking at near record heat today like you mentioned, it's hot for the first week of february. the highs so far today, 82 degrees. the record for today, 84. so we're not too far off that, and we could potentially be a degree or two higher before the

for the rest of this evening. at 9:00 p.m., we're in the 70s tonight through the overnight hours. we'll see patchy fog develop. sea fog could be an issue in some coastal areas, but i don't think it will be as foggy. upper 60s as you walk out the door. the afternoon hours, we're back up to close to 80 degrees tomorrow afternoon. bringing in a slight rain chance. it looks quiet. can't rule out a couple of small showers developing in our inland spots this evening, but rain chances not going to be high for today. as you take a step back, you can see the cold front right there. the showers and storms out ahead of it. there's that snow we showed you coming down iowa from this low pressure. we're watching this front because this is what's heading our way, and we're seeing severe storms and tornado warnings out ahead of it in places like tennessee and mississippi this afternoon. so really a potent front moving through. for us, it will stay quiet tonight. a few areas of fog developing by

tomorrow afternoon. showers develop. temperatures will be and it moves through on thursday. expect thunderstorms. at this point, severe warning risk -- thursday night, this front pushes south. by friday, skies will quickly clear and we'll see cooler temperatures back into the low 60s friday afternoon. so if you're a fan of the warm weather, enjoy it. it's not going to last too much longer because by friday morning, we're waking up to 50 degrees and another storm system brings us our rain chances. unfortunately the timing is for this weekend. >> thank you, julie. an 8-year-old girl does something special for someone she -- a toddler has impressive moves on the ski slopes. >> jeremy ross has great stories. take a look at this. >> how are you? >> good.

forced travelers to heed warnings and hunker down. there's a blizzard warning from kansas to minnesota. number two, a small plane hit the water off halo beach. the small engine is in shallow water. you can see it there. a witness saw the passenger swim to shore and the plane took two minutes to sink. the two people inside made it to safer and were not hurt. bill cosby is in a pennsylvania courtroom. his attorneys are charging to get sexual charges against him thrown out. cosby is charged with three counts of sexual assaults stemming from a 2014 encounter with basketball employee andrea. she says he drugged her. 50 other women have come forward with a similar story. number four, the groundhog did not see his shadow this year. you know what that means, an early spring.

the headlines again, the warm and slightly muggy conditions. back into the 80s for a lot of us tomorrow. then the changes come. we're tracking a cold front and it will move thursday, bringing showers and a few storms possible as well. behind it, a cool down comes and the below average temperatures are going to stick around into the start of next week. here's a look at your forecast. remember, you can download that on your android or iphone for free. it will show tomorrow morning is going to be mild. we're close to 70 degrees at 8:00 a.m. and then we quickly warmup to around 80 by the afternoon hours. expect to see some clouds around tomorrow, but just that slim 10% chance of a passing shower. the best rain chances for tomorrow will be for our northern counties, and that's because our next cold front will be approaching us. you can see that front now bringing showers and storms across the southeast. snow falling places like in kansas, minneapolis, wisconsin dealing with the snow. thanks to the

out ahead of it, we're tracking severe weather, tornado warnings in effect in places like tennessee, mississippi, still have some active tornado warnings and really the southeast under fire for this evening. for us, that warm moist, southeasterly flow continues, lingering clouds overnight. some low clouds to begin with tomorrow morning. patchy areas of fog, but opportunity look like it's going to be quite as foggy as this morning. tomorrow afternoon, sea fog hanging around. we'll see a few showers in our northern spots out ahead of this next system, but most of us looking at dry conditions. it's thursday when the front moves in if the around 9:00, 10:00 a.m., we'll see the rain towards citrus area. around lunch time, wee see rain towards st. pete, and tampa and the front slows down moving by the late afternoon and evening hours and we'll see clearing conditions into friday. more sunshine, but cooler temperatures. it's going to be breezy. really kind of a
