i'm josh benson. >> and i am stacie schaible. let's begin with julie >> good afternoon, stacie. we are looking at slightly warmer temperatures but before we see those, we are? store for a chilly night tonight: a freeze warning has been posted for citrus and hernando counties into the overnight hours and you can see that much of the area is under a frost advisory, especially hours. so don't be surprised if you have to scrape a little frost off the wind shield tomorrow off the wind shield tomorrow morning. we are looking at chilly temperature thes in the forecast. 52 in clearwater beach. 53 in treasure island. and a lot of places have remained in the 50s but a few spots reaching into the 60s. 63 in bartow. winds have been breezy today, not as bad as yesterday was but we still have the northwest winds coming in at 10 to 20 miles per hour, breezier along

miles per hour this afternoon. that northwesterly flow again south. so most of us have dealt with mostly clear skies and that's what's it's going to be like through the evening hours but temperatures are going to fall back quickly, clear sky, light winds, that's the recipe for cold temperatures. tomorrow morning, we will be around 40 degrees in tampa but many areas will start off the day in the 30s. more on the warmer weather as we head into the weekend coming >> thank you, julie. sarasota police have shut down a major car burglary ring. >> and now they need the victims to come forward. on monday and tuesday, four teens broke into 40 cars in parking garages across downtown sarasota. the teens wandered through the garage picking at happeneds until doors opened up. police have not heard any victims yet. they might not even realize they were hit so police are now putting the word out. >> so this is going to be an

continue to follow up and gather how many victims that we still have out there that we don't know about. >> an 18-year-old and three other teens are facing criminal charges. and a man trying to steal from a bay area walmart ends up dead and now the store employees are part of a murder investigation. josh thomas has more on what happened. >> reporter: lakeland police have turned a shoplifting incident at this walmart into a homicide investigation after the suspect died. investigators tell us the 64- year-old was chased by walmart security after leaving the lakeland store with nearly $400 in stolen dvds. >> at some point, his pants caused him to fall. and he fell to the ground. he was apprehended and taken into custody shortly there after. she noticed he wasn't -- they noticed he wasn't breathing. >> reporter: the medical examiner ruled that he did not die from a previous medical

death was ruled a homicide. the employees have been suspended by walmart. while the investigation is ongoing, lakeland police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with any information. in lakeland, josh thomas, news channel 8. a lockdown now lifted at 9 plant high school in tampa. we're told for the second day in a row, someone made vague threats against that school. during a lockdown, students and faculty are not allowed to leave the building. a tampa police spokesperson tells 8 on your side that they sent officers and detectives there today as a precaution. also in hillsborough county, deputies discovered a loaded gun on a school bus. they tell news channel 8 that someone called 911, warning them about an armed teenager headed for brandon alternative school. deputies made contact with with the school bus and evacuated the seven students onboard.

loaded nine millimeter pistol, a loaded magazine with 12 rounds and a black ski mask. today an 18-year-old is facing multiple charges for having a gun on school property and for marijuana possession. new questions right now in wake of a deadly strip club shooting. could the club have been over shots were fired? today 8 on your side takes a look into the past of the club called club rain. it turns out both tampa police and fire units have been called there multiple times. the club had to be shut down last year after officials discovered 150 more club goers there than allowed and mixed with alcohol. >> that is a recipe for disaster. now from my point of view, the only thing we can address if the fire marshall's office is the over capacity. we don't have control over the other issues.

this person of interest in the weekend shooting. florida lawmakers are at odds over how many jurors should be required to recommend a death sentence. that's following a ruling by the u.s. supreme court saying that florida's death penalty is unconstitutional. for the time being, the state will not hand down the ultimate penalty. >> reporter: florida lawmakers remain deadlocked at 9-3 or a unanimous vote to require a death sentence in florida and until they agree, there will be no death penalty. the serial killer went to the death on an 11-1 jury recommendation. a man who killed a 9-year-old got death on a 10-2 recommendation. and now lawmakers are struggling over how many jurors should be required to send someone to their death. prosecutors testifying before a house committee say requiring a

>> yep, a lot of use out of the winter clothes. but i have neat video before we talk about tonight. here's the video of a lightning storm shot from space. the astronaut tweeted the time miles up. look how cool that is. space station. it shows dozens of lightning strikes over north africa. he tweeted, amazing how much lightning hits earth in such a period of time. really neat video there. and the local story tonight is the chilly temperatures we're expecting tonight. the last couple mornings have been chilly but tonight will be colder. we will have clear skies and the winds will lighten up and that will allow the temperatures to drop quickly. wesley chapel tonight, 39 degrees. 37 in land o'lakes. and northern counties may get to freezing. 31 in inverness. so definitely bundle up as you

your kids ready for school. they'll need the jackets and maybe even scarfs and mittens during the morning hours. currently temperatures in the 50s for most of us. it's 59 in wimauma. we are down to 52 in inverness. and 52 in brooksville as well. so it's been a cool afternoon. the sunshine or when you've been in the sunshine it's felt all right. although it has been breezy along the coast but most of the cloud cover south of the tampa bay area. so we are seeing sunshine and the clear skies will continue into the overnight hours. it will be chilly, like we talked about, a loft us in the wake up. a freeze possible for the morn counties, citrus and hernando. -- for the northern county, citrus and hernando. by the afternoon hour, winds will be lighter and it will be a comfortable afternoon. 60s. and into friday, high pressure continues to build in so it

upper 40s. and by friday afternoon, get outside and enjoy it. it's going to be a comfortable afternoon but you will be all 60s. now notice we're tracking the next cold front. so as we head into saturday, the front moves in, not rain. what the front does, it doesn't allow us to continue to warm up. so we see temperatures hold weekend. so temperatures stay below average through the weekend. and into next week, not quite as chilly as it was today with temperatures in the 50s. so warmer in comparison but just below average for this time of the year. for this even, near 50 degrees, if you have outdoor plan, you will need the jackets this evening. and tomorrow morning, sunny sky, bundle up because remember the northern counties and inland areas will be in the 30s with possibly even some frost around for us as we head into tomorrow morning. so highs in up ther 60s for this weekend.

got to stage an informal workout inside tropicana field. i love this idea because it gives new comers like that young man there a chance to look around, get accustomed to things like the roof and the cat walk. he was traded from the rockies. he has never set foot inside. but there is pressure on him to perform not only defensively with the bat. he should be a 20-plus home run guy that will help the ray's line-up. but his numbers away from coor's field in denver raise a little concern. so he is anxious to prove the rays made the right choice. >> i really like the field. great group of guys so far. and it's really playing in a dome than outside. but the ball traveled well. and hopefully i can put up the numbers and stay healthy and be out there and i think my numbers will speak for themselves at the end of the year.

now four headlines at 4:30. number one, south carolina is the next presidential primary state. and that's where candidates are focused right now. new hampshire shook things up last night. voting republican donald trump and democrat bernie sanders into the top spots. democrat hillary rodham clinton and republican ted cruz won the iowa caucuses. number two, about an hour ago, former technology executive carly fiorina ended her bid for the republican

and new jersey governor chris christie may not be far behind. he finished sixth in yesterday's new hampshire primary. number three, the irs claims identity thieves managed to breech its computer systems in an attempt to get information that could be used to steal tax refunds. they used personal data from somewhere else to generate pin numbers. the irs claims the computers did not give up personal information. and number four, bruce springsteen made my kids late to school. homework. it sounds crazy but it's what a teachers. he took his kids to the concert on monday night. and then he let the kids sleep in the next day and sent this note to school with them. believe it or not, the excuse might fly because one of the concert. >> there you go, the boss,. >> can't argue with that. area. here's julie phillips.

we are in store for a chilly night. the last couple nights have been cold but tonight will be colder and here's why. notice the clear skies out at the lake club at lakewood ranch. beautiful blue skies and winds not as much of an issue. and with the clear skies, that will allow for a chilly night. and currently out at lakewood ranch, 55 degrees. and here's where the freeze warnings are in effect for, citrus and hernando county so the northern spots most likely to drop below freezing but a large portion of the tampa bay area including much of hillsborough county is under a frost advisory for tonight. so we could see some frost on the windshields when you wake up tomorrow morning. and temperatures generally will be near 42 degrees. a lot of areas dropping into the 30s in the northern and inland spots so bundle up the kids at the bus stop tomorrow morning. and in afternoon howard franklin we will top out in the mid-60s so still below average but things feel more comfortable because it will be

off the windshield tomorrow morning. by the afternoon hour, beautiful blue skies, sunshine, dry air in place. so a beautiful day, just still a little cool. we only make it into the mid- 60s and then friday morning, really high pressure right on top of us. a chilly morning, not as cold, most of us in the 40s. and by friday afternoon, we see a little bit of a warm-up. we are still below average, only into the upper 60s. but compared to the last few days, with the lighter wind, it will feel comfortable. and here's the next front, this moves through on saturday, not going to be expecting rain along it, just a few clouds and fairly weak but what the front warming up anymore. it's going to be a little bit warm up. currently the jet stream on top of us, the huge trough in the eastern half of the country is keeping temperatures well below average pool. this weekend -- average. as we head into the weekend, warmer air moves into the west
