this morning from southbound i- 275 to ashley drive. here is a few from eagle 8. he was heading in the wrong direction and slammed into car. they both died at the scene. it is too soon to know if he was drinking. this afternoon news channel news channel 8's paul mular spoke to the victim who was driving to work. they said the loss hit them hard and they are just trying to get by. . >> is your heartbroken right now? >> yeah. it will be for a very long time because he was -- >> great. >> great man. >> best grandfather i could ask for. >> coming up tonight at 11:00 p.m. more on how the family wants to change so nobody has to go through the pain they are going through right now. investigative reporter mark

is doing to stop this type of crash from happening. >> a wrong-way driver. >> the wrong-way driver exited and then reentered on the ashley ramp going the wrong way. the resulting crash killed him as well as the other driver. the d.o.t. has tracked dozens of wrong-way driver crashes in tampa since 2008 including a rash of them two years ago. now here we go again. >> shouldn't the d.o.t. be doing more to prevent this sort of thing? >> we are doing more. >> reporter: this is what the d.o.t. has done. installed a dozen warning beacons. built in radar censors alert the wrong-way driver. photos are beamed immediately to the d.o.t. traffic control office and the fhp. managers credit a similar system in south florida for averting crashes 22-23 times. there were signs like this but

exit where two people died in tampa's latest wrong-way driver crash. mark douglas, news channel 8. an unusual crash caused a big commotion over night. somehow a truck went air born, crashed through a car port and on to another car. three cars were damaged with the truck. the driver is now facing a dui charge. a pair of criminals committed a brazen crime. they drove a flatbedden to a dar dealership and stole a truck off the lot. john rogers shows us they didn't mind surveillance cameras were also watching. . >> reporter: in the morning hours of january 30 surveillance cameras were rolling as this white flatbed drove towards the ford dealership off u.s. thee hundred 1. the -- 301. the truck made a b line towards a ford worth $76,000. the truck was the most exensive
