>> my heart is broken. >> reporter: nina and marvin lancaster are barely keeping this together. >> how could this happen? the tragic event how he died. my baby shouldn't have been taken away from me so brutally. it was carelessness. this didn't have to happen. >> reporter: their only son who friends called little marvin died at a shooting in club rayne two weeks ago. in an ironic and sad twist, he was periscoping, a live feed of his own death. his parents talked to him an hour before he died. >> i dropped to my knees. there was nothing i could do. we were so far away and couldn't get home over 24 hours. >> reporter: they have the deal with another sad reality.

their son's death. >> someone knows something. even someone is feeding him. he is being sheltered. >> reporter: rod carter, newschannel8. tonight, we are seeing the results of a four-month sting designed to get illegal guns off the streets. deputies purchased illegal guns not only to get them off the street, but to lock up the people selling them. most of the guns were stolen. >> if you possess a gun and you should not, we are going to come after you. and, we are going to be as stringent as we can be because the community deserves to be able to walk around safely without fear of gun violence. >> reporter: the sting resulted in 64 arrest warrants. eight of those people face federal charges and prison

there's a rule that is supposed to prevent clusters of sex offenders living close together, but angry neighbors in the igor area tell 8 on your side it is not being enforced. jamel lanee spoke to several people who voiced their concerns to city leaders today. >> reporter: kelly says she has sign a drastic change in her neighborhood in the last five years. >> why is it that igor has almost 15% of all of the city's predatory people living within a mile of the center of our neighborhood? >> reporter: she says not only have they moved to the area, but they are living in clusters. at last check, there were more than 70 predators living a quarter of a mile away from her house. the majority of them were clustered in a boardinghouse along nebraska avenue. residents stormed the city council meeting asking for help enforcing the county's code. even the council member lisa

she had more than 600 sex offenders living within a five mile radius of her house. >> where are they going to go? >> reporter: they will wait and see what the county does with the ordinance before they decide to create their own. jamel lanee, newschannel8. a sarasota police officer is now out of a job and in hot water for sharing confidential conversation. lieutenant ken castro shared the information with his brother. that day is only supposed to be used for officialpolice work. he also faces a charge for misuse of confidential records. >> it is important that law enforcement officers take this seriously. we have a right to privacy in our personal data. when the privacy is breached it can have very negative consequences. >> the sarasota police

its own investigation. someone tried to set fire to the home of a pasco county deputy this morning. pasco's sheriff has a warning for anyone who tries to harm deputies or their families. >> reporter: 30-year-old daniel thomas hall was looking for trouble. he is accused of breaking into cars before spotting this vehicle in a driveway and going up to the home. >> he has a lighter and he keeps trying to light all the furniture on fire. as he lights it on fire, he knocks on deputy lennox's door. >> reporter: deputy ryan lennox who works with k-9django has been with the police department since 2007. backup arrived minutes later finding hall on the deputy's lawn. the sheriff made it clear

high and he has a strong warning. >> our deputies and their family members are absolutely going to be trained on how to protect themselves. that means using deadly force. so be it. >> reporter: candace mccowan, newschannel8. the florida house and senate have reached a deal on how many jurors it takes to give a murder a death sentence. the house wanted a minimum of nine out of 12 jurors to vote for death while the senate wanted a unanimous decision. the two chambers compromised at 20-2. if the proposal becomes law, judges will be able to overrule the jury's death sentence, but not be able to issue a death sentence if the jury recommends life behind bars. the opening of a burger joint doesn't get a lot of attention, but when famous names are involved it is a different story. chip osowski is live where the red carpet is rolled out and the newest wahlburger's is getting ready the fire up the grill.

their roof repair job was supposed to cost $700. when steve andrews revealed a scam artist took them for 9 grand, local roofers stepped up in a very big way. >> reporter: the roof on this clear water home was a mess. as workers scraped off old damaged shingles from the top of bob and carolyn's home, they discovered a lot of problems. several soft spots caused by rotting woods. leaks left moldy green stains on ceilings, but they were committed to making right a terrible wrong. >> we saw your report. >> reporter: artie vasquez is referring to our report on this guy, angelo mitchell saying he could fix this couple's leaky roof. >> it was originally $750. >> reporter: mitchell took them for $9,000. there is one part of the story

quite a bit of dry air high above in the atmosphere. high pressure is our big feature centered to the north. it is more of a northeasterly wind. a cooler day today starting out that way. there it is to the north of us. a few of these clouds off the east coast moving from northeast to the southwest on that breeze. this evening clear skies, comfy temperatures for us. maybe a few extra clouds closer to the east coast. but even those folks folks will enjoy mostly clear conditions. we could pick up a few clouds. that's the case in the afternoon. most of the peninsula looks cloud free with temperatures near 73. 74 degrees overall. saturday morning starting the day in the mid 50s . a little bit cool, but nice in the afternoon. really, the same for sunday as well. we will get back into more of a southeasterly flow. that is just a warmer flow. add a little moisture back into the atmosphere.

forecast, 50 degrees temple terrace. 49 land o' lakes. 51 degrees in north point. lots of 70s tomorrow for the highs. that's the case on the seven day forecast. certainly the next three days. friday, saturday, sunday, very nice looking weather. rain chances do return as we get into tuesday. later tuesday into wednesday. looks like the bulk of the rain chance at least at this point will be on tuesday. perhaps a lingering chance early wednesday. then behind the cold front, things will cool down a little bit. we have to focus on the great wetter we have had today. it is just a good vibration. >> wow. that thing keeps coming up again. that is the kind of music that will last. like bach, and such. >> we will be right back. >> plus here is what you will see tomorrow at 6:00 a.m.
