to blake memorial hospital. we will update you as new information comes into the newsroom and on www.wfla.com. he didn't realize it at the time, but he recorded his own death as it happened live on the internet. tonight the young man's parents talk with us exclusively about his final moments and the periscope video that remains online. marvin lancaster was just 21 years old still living at home with his parents. >> his mom and dad got the awful news of his murder while vacationing in hawaii and now they are telling their story to our melanie michael who is live at club rayne where marvin died. >> reporter: marvin wasn't even supposed to be here that night. he simply stopped by the last minute to visit a friend's party. he called his parents on the way and it would be the last time he ever spoke with his mom
11:02 pm
>> a tragic event, how he died, you know. my baby shouldn't have been taken away from me so brutally. it was carelessness. this didn't have to happen. >> reporter: your heart can't help but break when you hear these two parents describe how lost they feel without their son. >> he's always, always with us. he's that kind of kid that he let me love on him in public, you know. he didn't care. and for this to happen. >> reporter: and they have a message for his killer. >> how could you live with yourself, you know? how do you sleep at night? how do you eat a meal? >> reporter: it all seems so unreal. the couple had just spoken with their son who was on his way out to meet friends. he stopped by club rayne and was periscoping.
11:03 pm
>> we try to put on a brave face, but my heart is broken. >> reporter: the couple is honoring their son in a very special way. they decided to plant all of the beautiful flowers from his funeral. while the hunt continues for the person responsible, their child lives on. tell you what, it's one of those stories that really leaves you with tears in your eyes to think of the pain this family is going through. tpd has two persons of interest but have not brought anyone into custody. >> hopefully we can report an arrest in this case in the near future and at least bring some closure for this family. melanie michael live in tampa, thank you. now an 8 on your side exclusive, parents' cries for help go unanswered. they claim their daughter is bullied at school and they say the school district is doing
11:04 pm
that st. pete family said their 12-year-old has become a target. they say one of her classmates is spreading nasty rumors, writing profanity on school walls and even taking an instagram photo they call a death threat. paul mueller is live at the pinellas county school administration building and i have to imagine school officials have at least something to say about this. what have they told you? >> reporter: a school spokesperson said they didn't even know about it until we alerted them. i want you to look at this pack of e-mails here, most of it from the family, some of it dating back two months ago. that same spokesperson is saying they never saw any of these. >> it's horrible. my daughter wakes up and she's afraid to go to school. >> reporter: renee and stacia lopez say they've done all they can and still it's not enough. what does this do to you as a mother? >> it's heart breaking. >> reporter: they've sent e- mail after e-mail, call after
11:05 pm
>> reporter: all these e-mails and phone calls to the principal, you never hear anything back? >> never heard anything back. >> reporter: how can that be? >> i don't know. >> reporter: they say it began two months ago at johns hopkins middle school with these profanity laced tirades scrawled all over the bathroom's walls with their daughter's them clear as day. >> those are pretty big words for a 12-year-old little girl to be written all over a bathroom stall. >> reporter: then this photo on instagram saying me sneaking up on my next murder victim, gossip, rumors, lies all at the hands they claim of another 12- year-old classmate, but why? they don't know. what do you want done? what do you want? >> i want some answers. >> reporter: so we called the principal only to get another school official. that's why we're trying to get all of our is dotted and fs crossed. >> reporter: we were told he was at a conference and left for the day and was out of town. so we went to the administration building.
11:06 pm
the -- come down and see the e- mails that i have. >> reporter: no one did but said we could e-mail them. so we did at least six times. they claim they never got them. as for renee and stacia lopez. >> i want to feel like it's safe to send my daughter to school. >> reporter: now at least two things happened after we started asking questions today. first the school resource officer actually called the family and secondly, we are assured that the higher-ups here will contact the family directly about this issue tomorrow. live in pinellas county tonight i'm paul mueller, news channel 8. and now to our exclusive coverage from cuba, news channel 8's jeff patterson spent the past week covering a tribble to cuba by congress members. he -- trip to cuba by congress members. he returned with the news that president barack obama is now planning to make a historic visit to cuba himself. today the white house confirms the president will be in cuba
11:07 pm
bay ray s are scheduled to play a game with the cuban national baseball team march 22nd. florida's senator and republican candidate marco rubio immediately criticized the visit. however, florida senator kathy castor who just returned to tampa from cuba praised the decision. she said those who disagree remain stuck in the past. >> when i hear naysayers like senator rubio and senator cruz say that they believe in the status quo and that just says to me that they want to remain shackled to the cold war policies of the past that have hurt cuban families. >> english rock band the rolling stones are scheduled to play a free concert in havana on sunday, march 20th , two days before the president and the rays arrive. you can count on news channel 8 to bring you complete coverage of the changes taking place in cuba and that includes president barack obama's historic visit. i plan to be in havana before, during and after the

now an 8 on your side investigation, kb home fallout. >> 3 1/2 years after our 8 on your side investigation busted kb home for shoddy construction the mega company is paying a big price. our stories expose mold and balconies ripping off condominiums, but what's more shocking than that, the company knew about the dangers and kept selling homes. the florida attorney general is forcing kb to pay millions, but some homeowners are still not happy with repairs. 8 on your side investigator shannon behnken shows us why. >> reporter: from the outside willowbrook condominiums look all shiny and new again. >> took all the stuck co out and everything -- stucco out and everything. >> reporter: our 8 on your side investigation exposed shoddy construction 3 1/2 years ago. we found walls not built with enough screws, homes not up to florida building codes. >> all want by 4s top and bot
11:09 pm
are supposed to have a lurk strap in here. >> reporter: pressure from 8 on your side got kb to spend over 70 million in repairs. last week florida's attorney general announced a multi- million dollar settlement that forces the builder to fix more homes and pay fines, but all is not well yet. are you happy with the repairs that kb did to your home? >> absolutely not. i still have water intrusion, flooring issues, mold. >> reporter: she's not the only one. a big part of the settlement requires kb to have a baby- sitter, that's right, a third- party inspector to watch over new home construction, but hold up. isn't that what we pay county building inspectors to do? this is manatee county's head inspector back in 2012. so how is it possible, then, that these things were missed? >> i don't know that anything was missed by inspection. >> reporter: well, guess what. the a.b. lawsuit confirms big code problems -- a.g. lawsuit confirms big code
11:10 pm
inspectors didn't catch any of them and now officials don't want it talk about it. residents left to deal with this fallout want more answers and more accountability. do you think kb should still be allowed to build in florida after this? >> absolutely not. they shouldn't be building anywhere. >> reporter: manatee county commissioners have the same questions. they asked the building department for a memo explaining themselves. mean while the a.g. office tells me it's unclear whether all of these violations would have been visible during county inspection says. so if county inspection protocols cannot catch something like this, we want to know should the process just be changed? >> a couple things here come to mind. who is this third-party inspector for kb and do the county inspectors face any penalties for not catching any of this? >> we don't know who that inspector is. that's one of the questions we have. we do know kb will have to foot the bill for that. as far as the county
11:11 pm
there's actually a supreme court decision a few yearsing that says they don't have to -- years ago that says they don't have to pay anything. you cannot sue the county. >> more to come for sure. thank you, shannon. if your home was built by kb and is in need of repair, you should contact kb for an inspection. 813-387-9600 is the phone number. the information is also posted on www.wfla.com. on his way back home pope francis managed to upset presidential candidate donald trump by questioning his christianity. when asked about trump, the pope said a person who thinks only about building walls and not bridges is not christian. trump fired back at the pope calling the comments from the pontiff disgraceful. >> for a religious leader to question awe person's faith is disgraceful. i'm -- a person's faith is disgraceful. i'm proud to be a christian and
11:12 pm
christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened. >> florida governor jeb bush and also catholic commented on this saying wanting to make sure people don't cross our border illegally is not an unchristian thing to do. still ahead a helicopter falls from the sky over pearl harbor. >> coming up next witnesses describe the terrifying scene. >> also the wahlbergs are back with a side of fries. we'll show you where you can get your lanz on one of these burgers. >> very pleasant 74 degrees with lots of sunshine today, expecting more similar kind of weather tomorrow and the weekend, too. there are some changes, though, ahead, rein and cooler temps. we'll have that -- rain and cooler temps.

11:14 pm
11:15 pm
we want to give a live look right now at that breaking news in manatee county. eagle 8 hd is over the scene of a deadly crash in the northbound lanes near mile marker 215 on i-75, several vehicles involved, traffic in both directions at a snail pace crawling along. we'll have the newest information starting for you again at 4 a.m. an incredible tale of survival tonight out of hawaii, five people were on board a helicopter when it crashed into the waters of pearl harbor. jen holloway is here with that dramatic video tonight. >> it is dramatic, keith. an eyewitness had his camera rolling when the chopper went down and immediately posted that video on youtube. take a closer look. this is happening near four island bridge and pearl harbor's visitor center, the aftermath of the crash when they're taking those on board to a local hospital.
11:16 pm
including a 16-year-old who is now in critical condition. >> when we first saw it, i actually turned and i said do those land on water because that looks like it's coming and then within a second somebody yelled to get down and we just kind of turned and ran and tried to take cover. >> a fast hard landing, obviously a very scary situation for those on board and the tourists on the ground. tourists at the -- tours at the pearl harbor memorial were canceled the rest of the day because of the crash and right now the faa and ntsb are both investigating. it looked like a scene out of hollywood, a concert, a street party and celeb represents on a red party. wahlbergers held its ground opening in downtown orlando this evening and chip osowski was at that event. he joins us now live from orlando where the party is still very loud but winding down. >> reporter: it is still very loud and i can barely hear you,
11:17 pm
behind me the band still playing this hour. this is church street, the main drag through orlando's downtown entertainment district. the street remained closed all afternoon and all evening as people from near and far celebrated orlando's newest attraction. >> i love you. >> reporter: the anticipation was almost too much for some wahlberg fans including denise edwards. >> oh, my god. i have loved new kids on the block since i can't remember and i've watched the wahlbergers tv show and i love all of mark's movies. so i had to come. >> reporter: the name wahlberger should ring a bell. it's owned by mark wahlberg and his brothers donnie and chef paul. the orlando location is especially exciting for the celebrity brothers. >> amazing. >> it's such a great town and this is our first venture down south, what great place to kick it off. >> reporter: we're hearing word that tampa may be in the future?
11:18 pm
you know, one thing at a time. we want to make sure -- >> everything is in his future apparently. >> reporter: after the red carpet gala denise and dozens of other fans got their wish, a chance to meet the man close to their hearts for years. >> and i'm hoping they'll come and say hi and i'll get a hug for my birthday, so excited. >> reporter: mission accomplished. and what was amazing to me was the number of people who were here from the bay area. i spoke with one woman from brooksville, another from plant city and as you heard, mark wahlberg said himself tampa is now on the family's radar. so those folks may not have to drive quite so far. reporting live in orlando, i'm chip osowski, news channel 8. >> thanks a lot, chip. never heard how the burger was.
11:19 pm
from jackie sparrow watching the traffic as the sun goes down, clear skies throughout the region. if you're in the run on saturday and sunday, i'm not sure if that's a brand of shoe officially, but nonetheless 75 degrees, partly cloudy skies and pleasant sunday, more of a southeasterly wind adding humidity back into the atmosphere. tomorrow a mild morning, lots of sunshine, 69 degrees at noon, blue skies and gorgeous, more sunshine at 3 p.m. it feels more like february when you look at our average highs for this time of year. that's the line right across the screen here, 73 degrees of we're a little above or below that and perhaps a lot below that thursday, friday once a round of showers pass through and tuesday and wednesday cooler air moves back in. 60 largo, pinellas park, 54

50, wimauma 59 and venice 59 degrees. quite a bit of dry air aloft is why we had the bright blue skies today, just beautiful. high pressure is the big reason, too, ail -- a cool dense area of high pressure. a few clouds might be expected on the northeast edge of florida, tomorrow a stronger easterly breeze and a few clouds may make their way farther inland as well. the forecast tomorrow morning looks like nice mostly sunny skies, maybe a few clouds to the east, tomorrow afternoon a few clouds and mostly sunny skies rule throughout the day. saturday morning starting the day mid-50s, a little warmer feel to the atmosphere largely because we'll see more of an east and southeasterly flow. that just tends to bring in milder air. saturday afternoon, sunny, warming quickly, same for
11:21 pm
will call for a mild high of 76 degrees. monday changes start and tuesday with the approach of an area of low pressure and cold front we'll start to see some rain chances slide into the area. we look at the european computer model and see the approach of a low pressure area for tuesday later into the early part of wednesday with that best chance of showers, potentially thunderstorms, but you can see the rain coverage might be fairly decent that day. we think the intensity might not be as great, which is good news, but it's much cooler once the front moves through the area later next week. we're not done with the cooler air yet. 75 degrees the high saturday, 76 degrees, been a while since we've had a pure lovely forecast like this, but there you go. monday maybe add a few clouds. the rain chances i just mentioned and cooler behind that situation there, 65 degrees for thursday, 52 in the morning, rain chances not that high, but we could see some thunderstorms as this system moves into the south. >> wonder how the burger was. we never heard.
11:22 pm
