>. it's 7:00, and 8 at 7:00 begins now. good evening, a 6-year-old found a gun in his mother's diaper bag, and fired a shot. the gun fire caused panic in a south tampa park over the weekend. nobody was hit, but as jeff patterson shows us, the owner of gun is now facing serious charges. >> >. we started talk agent how to be -- about how to be friends with people. >> reporter: 9-year-old bella was in the park with friends. >> all of the sudden we heard a big boom.

away a 6-year-old had taken a gun out of his mother's diaper bag. >> we started freaking out and didn't know what to do. >> reporter: her mother rushed to the park with a friend called to tell her what happened. >> >. it's a pretty traumatic thing that happened to them, and i don't know how no one got hurt. >> reporter: police responded too, and charged this man with negligence for putting the firearm in his girlfriend's diaper bag. >> i can't think of too many worse places to store a firearm. >> reporter: they also charged him with tampering with evidence. when he found out police were on the way he tried to throw the gun into the bay. jeff patterson, news channel 8. sarasota deputies say a venice couple's home was filled with guns, drug, and explosives, all within reach of a 5-year-old. they discovered it when they went to the home to check on the child in their care.

along with pipe bombs and hand grenades. the child is in protective custody. two arrests have been made in a weekend shooting at a holiday i think express -- inn expression. 16-year-old jones and 18-year- old mcgee were arrested and charged with assault. the shooting wounded two teens. investigators believe a fight broke out when uninrate ised guests shot -- uninvited guests showed up at a birthday party. and a clerk in east tampa shot and killed a robber that tried to rob the liquor store he worked out. >> he went into the wrong store, that's for sure. >> reporter: that's the sentiment of many that frequent this liquor store in east tampa. >> i wouldn't try it. they should have known. the guys in there, they're all loaded. >> reporter: you can see the two gunmen walking up and into the store.

sidewalk. his partner continues to run. >> they'll find him. >> reporter: i spoke with the store clerk today, and he didn't want to talk on camera, but tells me that he and his wife are thankful that he wasn't the one that was killed. through the surveillance video 8. a crash involved a school bus caused some damage, but only minor injuries. it happened just before 3:00 this afternoon on pine brook road in venice. it was carrying students from venice high school. at least two students were taken to the hospital. investigators want to know if an accused scammer has more victims in the bay area. detectives started getting complaints about him last according to investigators he knocked on the doors of elderly people and asking them to fix the cracks or holes in the

he fixed the cracks, but the cement wouldn't last. >> and in a very short period of time it was obvious that the cement would either turn into powder or basically run off even before it dried. >> the deputies tell us so far they know of 13 victims in spring hill. right now the man is waiting to be extradited to missouri on similar charges. and wild life officials are worried that someone is trying to kill animals with arrows in bradenton. >> reporter: earlier this month an expert with wild life inc. recovered this raccoon in a south bradenton neighborhood. it had a cross bow arrow in its back, and was in extreme pain. it was not alone though. a few weeks earlier they got a similar call from the same neighborhood about a duck shot

>> in the wake of recent shootings at colleges, there's a hot debate over whether students should be allowed to carry guns on campuses. as josh thomas reports, the discussion has reached the bay area. >> people are not able to bring their gun to defend themselves. >> reporter: florida sophomore wants to carry a gun for protection on campus. he's with students for concealed carry. but the florida senate recently struck down a bill that would have allowed permitted students to carry weapons on state university campuses. >> and this bill is not about arming the student population, this bill is about safety and crime prevention and most of all it's about our civil rights to be able to defend ourselves. >> reporter: good uses other campus shootings as an example. the police chief said having students with guns on campus would actually pose a challenge in a crisis situation. >> our concern is not getting in fast enough, and we have all these weapons on campus, we don't know who the good guys

to find the man at the center of the controversy. >> reporter: this is the city hall where buildings, developers, and the public come to do business every day, but on this day the development services office is locked down. the state is investigating the town building official for a month now. that's because his license to serve as a building administrator expired last october. city commissioners were blind sided by that news. >> we didn't really know until your investigation. >> reporter: he got the $95,000 a year job with the sole requirement of obtaining a permanent license. now the city is paying outside consultants to do his job at the rate of $140 an hour. what do you tell taxpayers when they see the story about the town official without the decree terribles to do -- credentials to do his job and
