looking at what could have been 21-year-old brian fleury driving the wrong way down i75 in sarasota county for 6 miles. nearly hitting a deputy. >> he stayed in that breakdown lane, and no vehicle was in that lane. >> reporter: but it didn't stop there. he got off an on-ramp driving 6 more miles. >> how could this not have been deadly? >> luck. >> reporter: but it was deadly here on the ashley exit in tampa earlier this month. two drivers wrong way. it's one of dozens of wrong-way crashes in the bay area since 2008. holy mackerel. >> reporter: we showed the video to attorney tom kerry. he lost his wife to a drunk driver who had five dui convictions. >> that brings back a lot of tough memories for me. >> painful to watch. >> it is.

>> reporter: the sheriff's office says fleury later admitted he did it, and that he was sorry. >> reporter: he could face community service and fines if he is convicted. severe weather is moving closer to us. this video just taken about an hour in pensacola. you can see how strong the winds are. county fire and ems are reporting injuries and severe structural damage. there are reports of people dropped at a gas leak at an apartment complex. this is part of the same system that destroyed dozens of homes in louisiana. wind gusts knocking over trees and power lines. this is a look at one. the hardest hit areas. two deaths have been

injuries. tracking this line of severe weather tonight. jerve. >> an intense line of thunderstorms could move onshore sometime tomorrow morning. probably not as intense as what you just saw. and there are currently no watches in place like there is for the panhandle. a bigger picture shows this area of low pressure producing that clockwise rotation. so much so dragging the cold air on the northwest side, some snow there in the northwest part of arkansas. that red area indicates a tornado watch. new york west of pan -- severe thunderstorm warning west of panama city. we see a line of approaching thunderstorms along a cold front extending off the southern part of that area of low pressure. the storm prediction center has us at a slight risk for thunderstorms. that would include the

tornadoes sometime tomorrow morning. 7:00 am to about noon. then probably early afternoon for the inland areas. this is the high-res model. that's around 8:30 am, nature coat areas. we do see on this model an indication that these thunderstorms that are individualized may indicate the possibility of supercells. so just a heads up until tomorrow early afternoon. >> you can track the weather any time by using our weather max app. breaking news out of cuba. that is where media is reporting that ramon castro is dead at the age of 91. ramon is the older brother of fifell and raul -- fidel and raul. he preferred farming over politics. no cause

but he was 91. for seven years, president obama has tried to close the u.s. detention center at guantanamo bay, cuba. today he delivered his plan to congress. moving detainees to other countries. and the rest would be relocated to a facility in the united states. before terror suspects started arriving in 2002, you didn't hear much about guantanamo bay. ten years ago when critics were calling on the president to shut it down, i was granted permission to visit the compound and spent four days there trying to see for myself why this facility had become such a lightning rod for critics. >> camps 1, 2, and 3 are for compliant prisoners. >> reporter: by the time we arrived in 2006, it was described as a horrid den of torture, an accusation the military strongly denied and

into is oncoming traffic. somehow jonathan persuaded the driver to pull over. >> i think i saved lives that day. not only somebody else's but this guy's life. >> reporter: deputies were called to the scene and believe the fedex driver was impaired. >> an arrest was not made because the driver removed the keys from his ignition before deputies arrived. they did not personally see him operating that truck. sex scandaling in clearwater. they are so steamy even the high-ranking firefighters are being told to city leaders are going on record saying these sex on the job big changes on the way. >> reporter: we had one simple question for city leaders. why

posting this information on wfla.com. wondering what that little dot was. that's jupiter. great shots tonight of the moon and jupiter. tornado damage in louisiana as well. these pictures came in. we saw some video at the top of the newscast as well. this earlier in louisiana. severe weather has been rolling across the south today. temperature-wise for us, still a mild day tomorrow. today we had highs in the upper 70s. these are high temperatures well below that average line. by monday and tuesday it jumps back. a relatively decent weekend it looks like although on the cool side. especially when we look at our averages. temperatures in the 70s overnight. mild conditions. 69 for a low. note the rain chances early and possibly even

but it's more toward 7:00 am, 9:00 am, we see a better chance of strong showers and thunderstorms, potentially severe for the bay area. high wind and the possibility of tornadoes. especially during the commute in northern areas. there's the area of low pressure moving across the south. the upper-level trough racing along. the upper-level winds have been very fast which leads to a greater tornado threat. there is no watch in effect for the bay area. there is in place for the florida panhandle and a small potential for a watch being issued tomorrow morning. we'll keep you posted. showers and thunderstorms into the gulf of mexico. and that's kind of forming along ahead of a cold front that will move our way for tomorrow.

clear, quiet, most of the rain to the east. the timing of the rain, 7:00 am to 11:00 am, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm central areas. moving farther inland. early afternoon hours, island county, eastern polk off to the east. a few lingering showers may be possible off to our coast. and that overnight slight chance of showers in the forecast. this is another computer model. a different one. and this shows the timing of that, roughly around 8:00 am. here comes the front back to the west. slowly pushing eastward as the day goes along into the early afternoon hours. exiting off to our east. the cold front moves through 2nd half of the day. starts to clear breezy conditions. and that starts a much cooler trend as we head in closer to the weekend. highs in the mid-60s. highs back in the 60s. and this cool area will stick around for a while. 63 degrees in the forecast for friday.
