i'm josh benson. >> and i am stacie schaible. this is first at 4:00. right now, we are finding more storm damage in the bay area caused by this afternoon's heavy rain and wind. >> it really came down out there. and all this time the tornado warnings in our area have expired. let's go to john rogers live in charlotte county. john, what kind of damage did you find today? >> reporter: good afternoon, guys. yourselves. i am here at luther road. you can see what mother nature left behind. look at this white fence, literally pushed down by this storm. and as we look over here, you can tell that these power poles are leaning towards the road, a number have been pushed towards this direction. a number of homes and apartments in the area are currently without power there. are power crews all along here, overseeing and replacing the damaged poles. and now over across here, you can see where the storm went through.

snapped branches. and then across the street over there, there's some homes with extensive roof damage. and so this is just one spot there. are actually a couple spots similar to this where we see buildings with roof damage and damage to cars and debris thrown about. i contacted the sheriff's and they say currently there are no reports of any injuries thankfully but mare know which you are left -- but mother nature left quite a mess around here. >> how are the people responding to that? >> reporter: yeah, i was here throughout the day. and sometime around 1:00, the clouds became very dark, and there were powerful rain and whipping winds. at that time, officials were telling people to stay in their homes. easy to see, very dangerous conditions out here. but thankfully, no varies as of yet. >> thank you so much.
4:03 pm
now we want to get a look at the damage from the air. here is our photo journalist in eagle 8 hd. hi, paul. >> reporter: good afternoon, stacie. we are just east of i-75 and the damage is quite widespread. you're looking at a little block area. and if i push in, here's one of the houses. you can see how much damage there is to the roof. and if you follow with me, here's what i'm going to show you, take a look down here, these cars were damaged as well either from the falling trees or the wind. they are trying to figure it out. the power guys are out here too because the power is out in the area. they shut off the power. and here's damage to a house. and the storm which looks like it moved across this way because you can see more damage and below me, the power crews are already out here trying to get power back on. and these guys already have tarps on the house.
4:04 pm
damage, this white house, the whole back of the house is gone and the screen porch is torn off as well. so the damage is quite widespread. unlike some of the other storms lately, here the damage is widespread so they'll have a lot of clean-up tonight. but from the air, you can really see the damage and the direction traveled across these houses. in eagle 8 hd, news channel 8. >> thank you. and it rained very hard all day, all over the bay area. this was just a few hours ago. it's a shot toward downtown tampa. this video taken from underneath the crosstown expressway. and now your first at 4:00 forecast. a lot of the action has pushed out of the viewing area. julie, you were watching this all afternoon and now thankfully it's over. >> you're right, josh. it was a busy day in the storm center. the storms started this morning and continued through early afternoon hours.

rotation and probably what looks like a couple of tornadoes that did touchdown. here's the cold front moving through. this is the culprit. the storms were ahead of the this front. so conditions now will be improving into the rest of the afternoon and this evening. and i know many of you, that's what you're concerned about, is there anymore rain in the forecast. hours and storm thes are moving out right now. and here's a loop over the last six hours and you can see the worst in our area actually in the southern spot, sarasota county and south of us near charlotte county. so we can take a close look at the rain that we're still dealing with but it's mainly southeastern highlands county. polk county dealing with a few spotty showers but things clearing out for us. and a look at the storm reports from today. a couple strong wind reports from pinellas county, a lot of us saw the heavy rainfall and the strong winds but we had a couple trainer reports as well. this one to the northwest. this was sighted from the area. it was a rural area, likely a weak tornado. so we are not expecting the

4:08 pm
his vice presidential pick. scott says he is focused on doing his job but he has sent signals that a trump endorsement could be in the works. governor rick scott made national news when he defended donald trump back in january in usa today. and then he became a darling of national talk shows. >> we need a big change. and donald is talking about it records. >> reporter: and now the former hospital executive is said to be on the short list of potential vice president candidates if trump wins the gop nomination. scott told us it's not on his radar. >> are you interested? >> i'm focused on my job. we have add 1,025,000 jobs. >> reporter: having two outsiders run for the top jobs doesn't make a lot of sense politically but 2016 is the year that political rules don't seem to apply. a pasco county school bus

part of every day life. >> isn't that the truth. and now mastercard wants to use selfies to help prevent fraud. here's how it works. >> reporter: the company says selfies and fingerprint scans are safer than typed passwords. especially since many of the passwords are easy for scammers to guess. if you want to use your picture to pay, download the mastercard identity check app. it has you take a selfie each time you buy something online. your face or fingerprint will be scanned to prove that it's you spending the money and not a scammer. but you can't use the same photo over and over. mastercard makes you blink to show you are taking the picture as you shop. the fingerprint scan is easier, especially if you have a new iphone with the technology built in. but it's not just mastercard looking for ways to prevent fraud. with hsbc, you can use your fingerprint and voice to access money. and mastercard is researching

scans of your eyes to authenticate purchases. >> this could be the future of protecting online shoppers from fraud. the technology will be rolled out by the big banks over the next few months. and now for another look at the weather. we had all four of our storm team 8 meteorologist up there at one point because with threatening weather like tornado, not taking any chances. we want people to know what's happening. >> yeah, and this area in particular. we have seen multiple events. we have been talking about the el nio influence and that has a lot to do with it and why we have seen more rotation and tornado warnings. so a busy day. gone down significantly but we have seen some damage. and either 8 was able to overhead from charlotte county. remember this is just south of sarasota. see that.
4:17 pm
we were watching strong rotation on the radar. and the national weather service is on their way right now and they'll be surveying the damage to determine what category tornado this was and confirming that it was in fact a tornado. it moved through just a few hours ago. we were watching this line of storms since this morning. and you can see the damage there, already some tarps up. and thankfully with any roof damage, we are looking at dry conditions expected the next couple days. but we just really hate to see things like that. and if you are wondering why we are on the air, it's because we want to keep people safe because tornadoes can do a lot of damage very, very quickly. for the rest of the evening for u just a slim chance of a few showers in the southeastern areas still lingering but what you will really notice is temperatures dropping quickly tonight. it's going to be breezy all night long. and temperatures back down into the mid-50s. so after a warm stretch, it's going to be chilly tomorrow "cbs this morning" with temperatures in the mid-50s.
4:18 pm

4:20 pm
storms is overwith for us now. so rest easy for tonight. it's going to be a quiet night for us. and tomorrow, not bad, just windy. so not a good day to be on the water but we aren't expecting storms and then temperatures cool through the weekend but at least some sunshine for the weekend as well. guys -- >> thank you, julie. while we are on the subject of your health, 8 on your side has some answers and wants to remind you that flu season in florida is well underway. if you don't already know someone has had it, chances are you will soon. it's already in several schools. health officials are urging people to get vaccinated. >> there's a lot of other things that we can do, get a good night's sleep, eat well, get exercise. when you're feeling bad, stay at home. keep flu at home.

4:50 pm
awareness week, this is fitting for us because only texas, kansas and oklahoma have more tornadoes than we do. florida ranks fourth in damage. we can see a lot of small spin- ups in the summertime months but in the wintertime months, we have to watch carefully. for us tonight, we can rest easy. the front is moving south of us and our storm chances are over with but we are concerned about strong winds. winds could gust over 25 miles per hour. not due to storms but just the air system moving in. the cooler air is going to be keeping temperatures in the 60s for the next several days for us. so for this evening, we're in the mid-60s, temperatures quickly dropping back today. and winds will be picking up this evening. and then as you wake up tomorrow morning, we're in the mid-50s which isn't too bad but when you factor in the stronger wind, you will want a jacket because we're not going to warm up through the day. beautiful sunshine by the afternoon hours but we will only make it into the mid-60s so still below average and it
