so, a breezy day, a rough day on the water, but thankfully, the showers and storms have passed. you can see in the satellite and radar imagery, barely a cloud in the sky, no rain on the radar, things looking dry for the rest of tonight. that front is well off to the south, there is a large system that has made its way into the northeast. still looking at snow across the mid atlantic, but quiet conditions as high pressure is building in for us the next couple of days. right now, 61 in temple terrace. treasure island, sitting at 60 this afternoon. coast. the winds are out of the northwest between 15 to 20 miles an hour. and gusting over 20 miles an hour at times. definitely a breezy day. and the breeze is going to stay with us for tomorrow as well. so through the evening hours, temperatures quickly falling into the 50s for us. if you have plans this evening,

people who sell the e- cigarettes say it could happen to anyone, not just the people who smoke them. >> reporter: good afternoon guys. this is video a lot of people have been talking about of . it is sparking, if you will pardon the pun, a lot of attention. he is standing there and something in his pocket catches fire. it is actually the battery from his electronic cigarette. we talked to a man named gary wilder who is the owner of lizard juice e-cigarettes stores. and he knows how it happened. the battery probably touched the keys in the guy's pocket and all of that completed the imperfect circuit if you will and caused the spark. the whole thing is caught on camera. he told us this could happen to any one of us really. >> even a regular double a will do exactly that. just not as much. a smaller battery. >> the guy in the video had to take off his pants, ran outside

behind him and put the fire out with an extinguisher. he is doing all right, but he has second degree burns. i'm rod carter, newschannel8. well health groups are calling on tampa general hospital to get rid of the mcdonalds in the lobby. rally organizers told newschannel8 that fast food does not belong in a facility that promotes health. some local fifth graders say when they order food from the fast food menu, they usually don't choose healthy. >> i will probably just get a cheese burger from there or something. but it is kind of not really healthy for you. we should probably try to get like one of those salads. >> so far, 11 hospitals across the country have severed ties with mcdonalds since 2009. officials at tgh tell us their contract with mcdonalds doesn't end until 2023. florida's last remaining

compliance officers who befriended the 93-year-old homeowner margot chauncey. >> i won't know my house when it is over. >> reporter: she has quite a story. four years ago, tommy mitchell offered to detail her pt cruiser. he followed her in the house and asked for water. >> he grabbed the money, threw me down on the toilet and i hit my head. i was dazed for a while. >> reporter: mitchell is serving a 15-year prison term. the crime changed margot's life. >> i don't trust people like i used to and i like to. but not anymore. >> reporter: sergeant downs investigated the case and ended up befriending her. >> we always deal with people here who are a victim of a crime. >> reporter: he is hoping this project shows people cops have another side. >> community members coming together, giving us all the paint for the operation.

but boy, it beats the rotten stormy weather we had yesterday. >> we can enjoy this. it is cooler and definitely more pleasant. definitely breezy day. we have some video of some of those conditions. this was taken from the howard franklin bridge from our photojournalist. not a great day to be out in the water with the winds gusting 20 miles an hour at bay. seas were up. if you were outside, probably not the best of hair dies either for you, but winds ease up for us as we head into this weekend. though tomorrow, we are probably still looking at another fairly breezy day. by saturday, lighter winds, a lot of sunshine. like. mid 60s into the afternoon hours. a chilly start in the morning. a lot of us will be in the low 40s to upper 30s . by sunday, still looking at the sunshine. comfortable afternoon as you reach into the upper 60s . on

cloud in the sky. we had some altocumulus clouds. now it is looking clear and expecting to look mostly clear the rest of the night. temperatures will drop pretty quickly for us through overnight hours. when you wake up tomorrow, the emoji man is ready with a scarf out. you may not need a scarf, but at least a good jacket. we will be chilly with temperatures in the 40s . breezy north winds continuing in the afternoon. temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. we will only make it into the low 60s friday afternoon. as we head into saturday morning, as winds start to ease up, our temperatures will drop back even more. we will fall back into the low 40s . a chilly start to the weekend, but by saturday afternoon, notice the high pressure building in. this will keep rain out of the forecast for a while. we are left with sunny skies. temperature ins the mid 60s . and sunday looks pretty pleasant. chilly in the morning but we

emotions before? >> definitely. back in 2014, they randomly chose 600,000 people and divided them into a couple of groups and showed one group more positive posts. the other group, more negative posts for one week and they studied what is happening with those people and found whatever group they fell into, they did it. they kept it going basically. if they were in the positive group, they shared more or made more positive posts. if they were in the negative group, they made more negative posts. >> it is contagious. >> it is. >> i like the positivity. i notice when i put something positive up there, there's a lot more attraction. >> it usually happens. yeah, it will change how we use facebook. because facebook uses the alga rhythm to show us what we see everyday. so these five new things are going to really affect it. and business owners like me are looking forward to really learning what people think of what we are posting. >> all right, jonathan, good information. thank you very much. let's go to josh.

this year marks the 40th anniversary for pasco county special olympics. as anthony allred shows us, [ music ] >> reporter: it started out as a parade to honor pasco county special olympic athletes. >> the kids got excited because i got to fold the banners. >> reporter: once the traditional torch made its way around the track, it was game on. and every kid for him and herself at the 40th annual games. >> i got first place. >> i think it was fun and i competed good and tried my best. >> it is fun doing ball. but it is fun get. >> this special olympic day was full of games that included everything from ball, track and

>> over here is the shooting. shooting on goal. kicking the balls. then over here is the run and kick where they are timed and they have to run over and kick the ball into the goals. it is a timed event. >> reporter: i found a couple of soccer assistants who were pretty confident about their team's chances at winning. >> a lot of us have a really strong kick. so, they would be able to kick the ball far into the goal. >> i really love it because i like to work with kids and these people are all my friends. >> reporter: there is no doubt the kids are having a lot of fun competing and winning medals in all of these events but what i found is that the parents may just be having a little more fun. >> it gives me butterflies in my stomach. it just does me good, you know. because i see the smile it puts on his face. face. >> i feel great. he is coming along great. every year, he does a little bit better.

he is expected to make his homecoming this tuesday. and number four, florida is not the only state cleaning up after severe storms yesterday. this is video out of oxford, north carolina where people are picking through the rubble that used to be their home. at least eight people were killed in the storms that rolled through the southeast. in florida, a deal that allowed a 10/2 jury recommendation and death penalty cases has now hit a snag. >> it is because some lawmakers want to keep a unanimous jury. mike vasilinda is in the capital bureau with a look at what is going on. >> reporter: key negotiators for the house and senate have worked on the death penalty more than a week ago. it called for a 10/2 jury recommendation on death cases but at the last stop in the senate, it hit a snag. >> there was an agreement between the house and the senate that we would do a 10-2 in lieu of a 9-3.

to the 10-2. current law is 7- 5. but public dependers are either requiring a unanimous jury is the only way to make sure the courts don't step in again. >> require unanimity. follow the words of the florida constitution. >> reporter: then in the testimony. >> we will see this bill postponed. >> reporter: it was brought back up later in the day and approved but another fight over a unanimous jury is expected. the 10/2 jury has been approved by the full house. if the senate wasn't act, florida won't have a death penalty. i'm mike vasilinda at the state capitol. and robots took over the state capitol today. >> all in the name of science and technology. students showed off some of their inventions on stem day. a flight simulator and a 3d printed prosthetic leg for a german shepherd. stem stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education right here in florida.

we are going to use. they go in the junk drawer and then they have expired. and we never use them. >> reporter: that is why taylor doesn't clip. he saves those coupon inserts whole. then, when he has made a plan and is ready to shop, he starts with an app called fabado. >> it looks at publix, target, tells you which coupons to stack on top of the sale items. >> reporter: the secret to saveing the most money is by stacking one deal on top of another. >> what does stacking mean? >> so for example, if classical pasta is on sale for a dollar, you can add coupon on top of that to get that item even cheaper. it is a dollar, and there is a 50-cent coupon. all i have to do is find that one coupon. saves me a ton of time. >> reporter: if you stack a

taylor likes two rebate apps in particular. >> check out 51. then i take a picture of your receipt. robatta. they see if they have any rebates available for the item. if they do, they will give you cash back. >> reporter: in the bay area we are lucky, our stores are very coupon friendly. >> most target and publix allow you to stack a manufacturer coupon in the newspaper with a store coupon and a rebate. you put all of them onto one thing and you can sometimes get an item for free. >> free sounds really good. taylor also likes the wal-mart savings capture app. you snap a picture of your receipt and wal-mart will scan ads of competitors to see if anyone else is selling it cheap. then they will send you the difference in a gift card.

if you do, you can save a lot of money. sure. hey, we are talking about coupons. >> we are. who has time for weather when it's like this? beautiful weather. cool, all the severe weather has moved out. we are in severe weather awareness week. here in florida, thinking about hurricanes. hurricanes just a few months away. june 1 to november 30. it is is a long season here in florida. we are alert for it. the peak is august and september really. an also, we are talking about some flooding. places like south tampa. you are very familiar with the flooding. this is just from yesterday. from south tampa with some of the inland flooding we saw there. and of course, during a hurricane, we can see inland flooding and also storm surge flooding along the coast. so just keeping an eye on thing.

before you know it. headlines for today, cooler temperatures. it was warm for a while. now the cooler weather has moved in. no rain expected until the middle of next week. our next front is set to arrive next week on wednesday. so until then we are looking at dry conditions. if you don't have the app, make sure you download it. get the forecast in the palm of your hand. tomorrow will be a chilly morning. temperatures close to 50 degrees by 8:00 a.m. by noon, we are still only into the upper 50s . it will stay breezy and we will top out in the low 60s by the afternoon hours. so, currently, very quiet for us. temperature ins the low 60s . 59 degrees in weeki wachee. 60 in brooksville. 63 in plant city. it will stay breezy. temperatures dropping back very quickly. tomorrow morning we will be in the 40s pretty much across the board.

some of them are controlled by pulleys, by playstation video game controllers to take control. this is part of the science and technology learning. so how do we bring this into your area of life? get your kids a magnetic puzzle and rubix cube. playing, having fun, but you are thinking mathematically. here is another example. take a couple of soda cans. just talk about them. why does coke look classic? why is pepsi flashy? something like that gets your kids thinking about art. then the last one, i have some yeah. when you go to an event, it is a fantastic chance to talk
