and the resource officer. >> get back! >> reporter: that's the father cursing at the resource officer dad hasn't been charged. >> when we have talk about cases, it often takes more than one month's time to do things. >> oh, definitely. >> are they stonewalling you or just not having enough time to look into this fully? >> i think they're definitely stonewalling me. >> reporter: why? >> i talked to the area superintendent mr. murillo. >> reporter: she spoke to the district attorney's office, the state attorney's office and other district officials. i called the hillsborough sheriff's office. she told me they're investigating but they need more time. >> i feel like they're waiting for it to die down to, go away so it won't seem as urgent. >> reporter: tonight a spokesperson for the hillsborough public county schools said there was a parent on campus at the time but could not confirm whether or not that parent was involved in the fight. >> paul, you said the sheriff's office is investigating. what do we know about what
11:03 pm
>> reporter: well, the typical protocol, jen, in a case like this is the hillsborough county sheriff's office takes the report. they investigate it. it's then turned over to the state's attorney's office. right now that office is investigating. we're waiting to hear back from them still tonight. >> paul mueller live in hillsborough county, thank you. the assistant fire chief accused of stealing a $3 energy drink resigned. authorities in clearwater tell us ronald jimshine stepped down monday. he had been with clearwater search and rescue since 20 -- fire and rescue since 2012. 7-eleven employees said they saw him put a $5 energy drink into his pocket and walk out. he claimed he just forgot to pay. a bay area law enforcement officer is out of a job apparently over a grudge that he had with a drug suspect. pasco county nocco explained why he let steven leblanc go. according to the sheriff, the suspect spray painted his own trailer and nearby wall with

believe that's what led the deputy to plant drugs in the suspect's bag. >> i say that as we will hold ourselves accountable for our actions. we're going to be transparent with our citizens because we have to play by the rules. we know criminals don't. everybody knows that, but law enforcement officers have to play by the rules. >> in addition to losing his job, the now former deputy could also face obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence charges. in an 8 on your side consumer alert another skim are found at a bay area gas station, detectives found this one on a gas pump at the rally convenience store on main street in dunedin. they believe the device was installed less than 24 hours ago. if you used a card at this rally gas station, check your bank account and be on the lookout for any strange tractions. any-- transactions. now an 8 on your side investigation, money held hostage. >> a simple mistake seemed impossible to fix.

their cable billion line and overpaid by $1,600 when every because they mistimed. you'd think -- mistyped. you'd think it would be a quick fix, but after two months the couple wasn't able to get their money back and turned to 8 on your side investigator shannon behnken for some help. >> reporter: anyone who uses online bill pay should listen up. this could easily happen to you. in this case customer service was a dead end. so i went to corporate headquarters. lisa singer pays all of her bills online. then one wrong key stroke. >> i think my fingers were just moving faster than my brain and i accidentally inserted a seven. >> reporter: and my, what a difference that seven made. instead of the $186 she owed, she accidentally paid bright house networks $1,786. she and her husband mickey called bright house to fix this mess. >> i want my money back. >> reporter: at first they insist they were told they

when the next bill came, the couple learned bright house billing deducted their next monthly payment and left them with a credit for the rest. the sing ares complained -- singers complained, but that happened two more times. >> they're still holding $1,000 of their money and they're not a bank and it's my money. >> reporter: then they were told they'd need to fax customer service their bank account information including their money back. >> i'm like why do you need all this information and no one could give me an answer. >> reporter: they turned to 8 on your side and i called brighthouse for answers. and she says she's having a really hard time getting her money back. we got a promise that someone who can do something will look into this. the singers are hopeful but disappointed. >> i've always paid my bill in a timely manner and there's no loyalty from them for helping me out now. >> reporter: a brighthouse spokesman called me back this afternoon with some great news. the singers should have their money back in their account within a few days.
11:07 pm
for so much information because this was such a large refund. >> i can easily see how someone would make this mistake. you enter something wrong in one quick moment and you hit send and that money is gone. it's out there. so is there anything they could have done differently once they realized they made the mistake? >> well, it all gets back to making the mistake. you have to be extra careful as you mentioned and they could have done what bright house wanted and given them the information from their bank account and maybe she'd have their money, but everyone can understand why that's just not acceptable in that day in age. >> right. thanks for getting to the bottom of it, shannon. now back to your vote and more super tuesday results, there are two clear front runners in the race for the white house tonight, republican donald trump and democrat hillary clinton with very good nights. so far donald trump is the declared winner in five states. tell cruz wins his homestate texas as -- ted cruz wins his homestate texas as well as
11:08 pm
it's been a somewhat disappointing night for senator marco rubio, but we are still waiting on results from four remaining states. hillary clinton has been declared a winner in six states. bernie sanders won his homestate of vermont as well as oklahoma and was most recently declared the winner in colorado. so he's picking up three states tonight. democrats are waiting on the results in two other states. hundreds of republican and democratic delegates are at stake tonight. it's too early for an accurate full breakdown. what we do know is this presidential race will go on past tonight for both parties. for a better look at results and what comes next, nbc steve handelsman joins us tonight in houston. steve, it seems clear that donald trump and hillary clinton were the big winners tonight as expected. >> reporter: well, i tell you what, keith. here in houston everybody believes ted cruz is one of the big winners and in a way they're right. they went crazy here at cruz headquarters outside houston when they realized that he'd won not just the state, but another state as well, many
11:09 pm
that this republican race is down to the billionaire frontrunner and their guy. he didn't win the most states, but texas senator ted cruz is a republican super tuesday winner taking not just his homestate, but oklahoma. >> i congratulate donald trump on his victories tonight. [ booing ] >> but we are the only campaign that has beaten donald trump once, twice, three times. [ cheering and applause ] >> for the candidates who have not yet won a state, who have not racked up significant delegates, i ask you to together. >> reporter: donald trump held a low key news conference at his florida home. >> i am a unifier. once we get all of this clinton. that's hillary clinton. on the assumption she's allowed to run.
11:10 pm
again no primary wins but not giving up. >> i will campaign as long as it takes and wherever it takes to insure that i am the next president of the united states. >> reporter: democrat bernie sanders won at home in tiny vermont and in oklahoma, but frontrunner hillary clinton won bigger states. >> instead of building walls we're going to break down barriers and build -- >> reporter: the democrat's front runner gets overshadowed by republican ted cruz emerging trump. but cruz stopping trump still looks impossible with rubio, john kasich of ohio, with ben carson remaining in the race and splitting up the vote and as you know, the republican insiders and gop establishment mate cruz as much as they hate donald trump. >> you point out rightly so he
11:11 pm
homestate of texas. bernie sanders wins his homestate of vermont which some call the minimum requirement for anyone in a race like this, but but is marco rubio in a position or kasich to win their homestate tonight? >> reporter: i don't think you'll hear rubio or kasich say ohio or florida are must wins because they know they're trailing in the polls. kasich is within closing distance of trump in ohio. kasich is sitting governor in ohio. he's very popular among ohioans. so the feeling is that he might do okay there against donald trump. marco rubio has consistently trailed trump. trump has hammered rubio over that fact and, keith, you tell me. how do you lose in your home state when you're the sitting senator, when you haven't won a single primary and still say you're a viable candidate
11:12 pm
>> well, he has two weeks to prove everyone wrong. yeah, he is an optimist. steve handelsman live in houston, thank you for your coverage tonight. i want to point out we got some breaking news while steve was talking that hillary clinton also picked up massachusetts, so hillary clinton again a very good night. still ahead it's supposed to be a safe haven from abusers. >> but its security measures need some improvement, coming up next why some surveillance video is prompting some very important changes at a bay area safe house. >> we'll take a look at this contestant's incredible blind audition. >> what a warm high today, 77 degrees above our average high of 74 degrees. we're looking for warm temperatures to continue despite cold fronts moving through the bay area.

the safe place isn't safe enough. melanie michael joins us live to explain. >> reporter: good evening, jen. we're coming to you live tonight from st. pete pd to protect the location of the safe house where young women and children are staying. they live at alpha house and security there is getting a big boost. it's like watching an episode of law and order svu, women and children living on the street undercover, their identity secret, their security paramount. their safe house is alpha house. >> we've got you. we've got this. you're in a safe place now. >> reporter: jennifer stray sick has made it -- strysick has made it her mission to protect young lives. >> security and safety is what's most important. >> reporter: but jennifer admits more security is needed. check this out, surveillance video where she says this prostitute offered sex to a passer-by walking his dog. then just feet away a crack house drug bust.
11:16 pm
keeping someone safe, it's all about surveillance and alpha house is hoping to beef up its own security system so that they can see exactly who is trying to get in and who is standing around the property. the good news here, help is on the way from leadership st. pete, a philanthropy group that chose alpha house to receive $125,000 in security improvements saving women who have run long enough. >> they should feel safe. they should know that their safety is top priority. so yeah, we do have that special place in our heart to make sure that we can maintain that promise. >> reporter: and we are so excited to share with you tonight those improvements should be made by mother's day. some wonderful work by al if house and leadership st.-- by alpha house and leadership st. pete. i'm melanie michael live in st. petersburg tonight news channel 8. the blind auditions continued on the voice tonight and a young sing are from the

11:18 pm
in kazakhstan, a year in space for scott kelly, the first time for an american to be in space that long and that's been his view, aurora borealis, just incredible views right outside his window, saw his last sunrise this morning from space. looks like he'll be happy to make it back home. we got this great shot today at the tampa convention center, blue sky, a few fair weather clouds and high clouds streaking in from west to east across the area. temperature 64 degrees at 1 a.m., temps staying in the 60s overnight. we'll switch southwest ahead of a cold front coming our way. that cold front will help cool things down tomorrow but not to extreme levels, not the kind of cold front that brings extreme temperature changes or severe weather. we'll have 75 tomorrow despite the extra clouds and the slight chance of rain. 63 plant city, 65 braden ton.
11:19 pm
there are some cooler numbers farther north. we see activity to our north all associated with that area of low pressure and cold front moving rapidly across the country. you can see how far south now the showers outpaced the front. the high pressure continues back to our west. these high clouds continue to stream in, the high wispy cirrus clouds you saw today. the front will continue to push southward closer to that line of showers. the front will approach with extra clouds, warm conditions for the morning hours. by afternoon we'll start to see these shift farther south as the wind shifts north and the clouds pull to our south. we're looking for a beautiful day thursday, a bit chilly, low 50s to start the day and highs well into the 70s thursday afternoon with the sunshine. it should end up fairly nice, got another cold front up the road coming through with probably the same kind of effect, maybe a few extra clouds friday, 7 a.m. timing on this. a 10% chance of showers with both cold fronts passing through the area. in other words, the chances aren't that good for widespread rain as this front moves into the area.
11:20 pm
clouds as the front approaches with a few sprinkles with a southwesterly wind, 74 degrees in the afternoon, a light shower possible way 10% chance of see -- with a 10% chance of seeing rain and a few extra clouds. the clouds look mighty impressive on the map but aren't doing a lot to change our severe weather, which is good news. 76 degrees on saturday, 77 degrees on sunday with a mix of shine and clouds, really a very dry period -- sunshine and clouds, really a very dry period with a nice range of temperatures into next week. it looks like my next week and end of next week we'll see quite a few highs in the 80s across the area. today we saw hope 80s for highs -- low 80s for highs today, so an indication of a warming trend that will likely carry into next week. now we'll have some warm stuff after the cold stuff. we also have some news. >> finally good news for marco rubio. he has been declared the winner
