the station on your side is on your schedule. 8 at 7:00 beginning new. >> good evening. a twist to the superintendent scandal in polk county. the associate superintendent has resigned. he accused the former superintendent of sexual harassment. as jamel lanee explains, he has quite a past himself. >> i standby everything i said. >> reporter: associate superintendent of operations greg rivers, the one who accused katherine leroy of sexual harassment is under fire. rivers was the subject of an internal investigation in 2006 while employed at the university of florida. he admitted to having sexual relationships with three of his employees. school board member lynn wilson says he was shocked. >> it was problematic for our school district and for him personally. i'm sure that is what led to his resignation.

the irs claims they are sending more workers to tampa to help reduce the lines. we will be staying on top of this situation to make sure that the irs does what it has promised. ground broken on a 41 story condominium tower that will change the skyline of saint petersburg. one saint petersburg will be the largest building in pinellas county. 253 condos and a 172 room hyatt hotel. it will be at 100 first avenue north. hence the name one saint petersburg. >> this block has needed a lot of love for 30 years and today is kind of a relief valve for people to see we are on our path again. >> there are also going to be restaurants and retail spaces on the ground floor of the condo tower. it is expected to open some time next year. thousands of spring breakers are headed to clear

colleges and universities are beginning their spring breaks now. that means there will be backups on the causeway, but there is an inexpensive alternative. the clear water ferry. >> everything we can do to introduce a new mode of transportation is good. doing it on the water is awesome here in pinellas county because of all the water ways we have. >> clear water police plan to have extra officers on duty to keep an eye on the spring break crowds. changes could be coming to the way schools participate in high school athletics. the florida house gave tentative approval for them to join the high school athletic association on a per sport basis. right now, they have to join all the sports on a competitive level. celebrating women and the privilege of being an american.

reels here too. as well, so, after you are done picking out your tackle, you might want to go boating. they have 150 boats here. and, they range from the teens all the way up to a couple of hundreds of thousands of dollars. people as you can see are here checking them out. and they are having a ball just learning everything there is to know about boating. now, one of my favorite spots right here, i did this earlier today, is you can go scuba diving in here for free. all weekend long. friday, saturday, sunday. they will suit you up with the gear. they will suit you up with everything. all you have to do is bring shorts, a good attitude. and also bring a towel to wipe yourself off. you get to spend 15 minutes in the pool and i tell you it is one of the coolest things i have ever done. anthony allred, newschannel8. the newschannel8 outdoor expo runs until 8:00 tonight. it is back open tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.

>> some good news on wall street today. the dow finished up, the s&p 6, and the nasdaq 9. amc is buying carmike theater. it is the latest acquisition of a u.s. company by a chinese firm. amc is owned by dolly and wanda. sampsonite has gotten toomey. some of their bags sell for $2,100. apparently, riding a roller coaster isn't enough. six flags is teaming up with samsung to add virtual reality experiences so some of the coasters.

reality headset to ride adding a new experience to the roller coaster. u.s. safety regulators are investigating complaints that the brakes can fail on some of the ford f-150 pickup trucks. it covers 120,000 of them from the 2013 and 2014 model years. the national highway traffic safety administration received 33 complaints. drivers reported that the pedals can suddenly go to the floor with a complete loss of braking. ford drivers reported crashes but no injuries. the agency is looking into whether a recall is necessary. five women have filed a lawsuit to block new york state's so-called tampon tax. they want the state to stop imposing a luxury tax on feminine hygiene products. they are classified as general merchandise making them ineligible for a medical

whole foods has decided to pull prepeeled oranges from their store shelves after getting backlash over the product online. a twitter user posted this photo showing them in plastic containers in california. critics say it promotes laziness and violates whole food's eco friendly policies. the store seems to agree. it responded on twitter by saying definitely our mistake. these have been pulled. we hear you and we will leave them in their natural packaging. the peel. consumers may be getting a taste for chipotle again. negative sentiment from the e. coli scare is fading. willingness to eat there has picked up. work can be hard. even hard on your health. a recent study says certain professions wear us down. one of those, sales.

study had poor eating habits and 69% had unhealthy cholesterol levels. another, firefighters and police officers. a shocking 90% of them were considered overweight or even obese. perhaps not surprisingly, people who work with food. 79% of food workers were found to have poor diets. most of us want to have our cake and eat it too. artificial sweeteners. each categorized by their ingredients which are thought to be bad for you. however, according to a new study out by the mayo clinic, there is no evidence that artificial sweeteners cause cancer. all are safe. including sugar. as long as they are used in moderation. >> it doesn't matter which one you choose. it will come down to personal preference. for aspertame, it is about 19 cans of soda a day over a

>> but if you love the real thing, she says you don't have to avoid it. it is all about personal new guidelines recommend no more than 10% of your daily calories should be in added sugar. expanding medical marijuana in florida has been a slow process and a touchy subject for many at the capital. a new proposal would allow terminally ill floridians to have medical pot. some lawmakers want more. matt galka has the story. >> reporter: the florida senate nearly went up in smoke as medical marijuana. the chamber considered a bill use nonsmokeable marijuana prescribed by a doctor at the end of their lives. katny jordan is a florida als sufferer who says smoking symptoms go away. she is one of the few legally state.
