good afternoon, everyone, i'm josh benson,. >> and i'm jennifer holloway. this is first at four. candidates for the presidential nomination are are crises crossing our state -- crisscrossing our state. candace mccowan is live at the convention center. doors open at 4:30, is that right, candace. >> reporter: absolutely, good evening, josh, jen. some people are starting to come into the room. there's quite a line outside. door, and they're expecting to open the doors a little bit earlier at 4:00. people will be coming in any second now. they are expected to fill up this room here where rubio will take the stage in about an hour. this is one of two appearances he's making today. the other one in seminole county, before he comes back to sarasota tomorrow. take a look at video where marco rubio had a great day.

that put him winning 2 out of 20 primary states but that leaves him with more than 200 delegates behind front runner donald trump. now, florida is crucial for him, and new polling showing him narrowing donald trump's lead, rubio's numbers are now within the margin of error. >> puerto rico was a great day. it also could give us a picture because we also know what our demographics in south florida are. i think it was a great picture. we're very positive. we're very confident, and boots hard. >> reporter: yeah, and those campaign workers telling me calls. they are knocking on doors, really trying to get out and reach as many voters as possible, trying to get them excited and also get them out to the polls next tuesday. they have just over one week to get that work done, and get voters excited to see if rubio can take winner takes all in florida. jen, josh. >> and obviously rubio has a lot of ground to gain in order

campaign workers, are they worried after his super saturday performance? >> reporter: you know, i did talk to a couple of them and asked them that very question. they are trying to remain optimistic, telling us they feel positive, for sure that he's going to take florida. obviously the poll numbers are not saying that's a certain thing right now. it's a wait and see game. many of the supporters here tonight hoping they can bring others on board and that rubio will have a chance fighting into the spring season and the primaries. josh. >> that's right. his home state of florida is a big one for him. we'll have to see. candace mccowan, live in downtown, stay with us. if you need early voting information, you can always find it on our web site at wfla.com. florida's presidential primary is on march 15th. a very scary new crime trend uncovered here in the bay area. sarasota county deputies found credit card scammers access remotely by blue tooth.

devices may have been stealing information for weeks. >> reporter: good afternoon, officials say this is just an example that these crooks are becoming more and more sophisticated. these specialized skimming devices were found at this mobile gas station at the corner of fruitville and cattleman in sarasota, and the skimming devices were blue tooth skimmers. let me tell you how this works. we have been reporting that skimming devices steal your credit card data, but with blue tooth they can access the data remotely, sitting in their cars with a lop top yards away and access the stenstive information without -- sensitive information without touching the gas pump. they were well concealed and likely could have been there for two weeks. officials are doing all they can to track down these thieves. you can do a your part too. when you pump gas, look over the gas pump to make sure there has been no tampering there and constantly check your bank statements. john rogers, news channel 8. >> and now an 8 on your side

very serious charges accused of passing himself off as a doctor. somebody contacted the florida department of health when they heard of man well cordova offering medical advice on a spanish radio station. detectives caught cordova on camera diagnosing undercover investigators investigators with a number of nonexistent illnesses. cordova is facing criminal charges for practicing without a license. and an 11-car pile up on the howard frankland bridge is being cleaned up after causing major traffic delays earlier today. they crashed shortly before nine this morning on the bridge headed to tampa. one driver has serious injuries. minor. and now our first at four weather, here's storm team 8 meteorologist julie phillips. >> thank you, jen. just a gorgeous afternoon here. here's the view from cesar, a place you want to be if you have a chance at st. pete beach. i'm sure we're seeing the

spring break time approaching. 71 degrees, so still slightly on the cool side. you can see most areas have reached into the upper 70s. 80s in a few spots. 77 in largo, and odessa. afternoon. we're up to 79 in wimoma and lakeland as well. a very pleasant afternoon. we have been seeing plenty of sunshine all day long, just a few clouds out there at times. dry conditions as well. no rain around, and here's the current set up. this area of high pressure sitting right off the coast of florida. it's going to stay here for a while, so we'll have that southeasterly flow that will continue to allow us to warm up. so temperatures only going to get warmer from here on out. for the rest of the evening, it stays quiet, a great monday night. temperatures slowly dropping back into the 60s and by tomorrow morning, we'll be in the upper 50s to start off your tuesday, right near normal. again, those warmer temperatures are ahead. we'll talk about those coming up in a few minutes. thank you much.

columns is being blamed for the sudden shift of a balcony on clear water beach. it happened saturday at the pelican walk plaza, which is home to several businesses shop. work crews are installing temporary wooden beams to shore up the structure. several people were on the balcony watching hulk hogan signing autographs when the shifting balcony caused quite a panic. >> at first they felt the floor shift, and that's all that we heard, and once the fire marshals started coming out, that's when we got word we had to evacuate. >> engineers have deemed the building safe, but the number of people allowed on the second floor balcony must be limited. and he may be best known as the wrestler in the world as hulk hogan. today he introduced himself to the jury in a courtroom as terry bolea. he's suing a web site gawker for $100 million for publishing a sex tape. they claim they had a right to publish the video because hulk hogan is a public figure. still ahead on first at four.

>> there was a small rain chance at the end of the week. did that disappear. >> it's moved into the weekend, so enjoy the week before any rain chances. >> we're getting the raw end of the deal. >> there's a little bit of a tradeoff. we'll talk about that in a second. first, this awesome video of a volcano erupting over the weekend. it spewed lava in several fiery explosions that you're seeing there. at one point, the ash column reached 13,000 feet into the sky. the volcano itself is more than 16,000 feet high. awesome sight there. gorgeous sight, though, right now out at sun city center. this is what we have been enjoying all afternoon. a few clouds around, and temperatures for most of us have made it into the upper 70s, which is pretty much close year. 78 degrees at this location, with the winds coming out of the southeast between 5 to 10 miles per hour. if you haven't been to the strawberry festival just yet, it's continuing this week.

it's going to be great weather for you. at 10:00 a.m., we're close to 70 degrees. it's going to be comfortable through the day, getting warmer into the afternoon hours. we'll reach into the low 80s and see a few clouds around, no rain expected again, and still warm if you'll be going to the concert. we'll be staying in the low 70s. most of you won't need a light jacket through the day. pollen count, great weather, unfortunately this time of year, allergy sufferers are suffering, high pollen counts expected to continue through the week. need rain to move in to stir things up. on the radar now, it's quiet, really not much in the way of cloud cover around. we have a few clouds in spots. definitely no rain on the radar, and as we take a step back, you can seen this area of high pressure, just sitting -- see this area of high pressure, florida. this is a blocking high that's going to keep the moisture out for most of this week, and through this evening, it's just going to stay pretty warm for us, all the way into the late evening hours.

area of high pressure still there. normal temperatures for this time of year in the upper 50s and then by tuesday afternoon, we continue toasty that warming trend -- to see that warming trend. we'll be back up to 80 degrees by tuesday. wednesday, the southeast winds keep going. it's mild to start the day. it continues to get warmer into the afternoon hours. all of us are reaching into the low to mid-80s, dealing with plenty of sunshine, and all of the rain is going to stay off to our west. so we're left with high pressure and control bringing us the warm and dry conditions. out west, though, as you head closer to texas and louisiana, they're going to be seeing rain all the way through the week. thankfully the area of high pressure keeps it away at least for a few days. here's a look at those temperatures, continuing to go up as we head throughout the end of the week. great beach weather for those next week. temperatures stay fairly warm in the upper 70s, but notice, like we mentioned earlier, rain chances are moving back in, and unfortunately this time it is during the weekend. the timing still a little bit

more than sunday at this point. >> julie, thank you very much. 200 pilots from all over the world are coming to lakeland to compete in the florida jet week world championship. >> and as news channel 8's anthony allred shows us, you're going to see remote control pilots sending their jets screaming across the sky. >> reporter: with this a10 wart hog menacing in the sky, you would think the city of lakeland is under attack, but a second glance might tell you, scott guller is an rc pilot competing in the 2016 florida jet week world championships. >> this plane has 118-inch wingspan. it has two turbines and this plane can probably get up to 160, 175. >> guller came from new jersey to show what his military war plane armed to the teeth can do. >> i'm on vacation. i have an auto repair shop. this is a hobby for us.

me out of trouble. >> frank tiano has organized this worldwide get together for a little more than 20 years, and this year, he's added a twist. >> now we have three days of competition. >> reporter: and so far, tiano has close to 200rc pilots from as far away as germany, russia and serbia to compete in these inaugural games. >> i think it's wonderful that people would spend the money it takes to come from europe to here to compete in this event. >> reporter: and just like in real life, teams have mechanics to fix everything from engineer trouble, to window repair. >> we have to repair because my friend on the first flight lost a canopy. they exploded in many parts and so we have to fix it. but we have only two hours to fix it for the next flight. >> the costs of jets in championships can range from $10,000 up wards of $40,000. you know these pilots take this kind of flying seriously.

welcome back, let's check in with your first at four sports with dan lucas. today is a crazy day in the football world so on wednesday free agency began. robert griffin iii out of work today. everybody retires today, as well. you know anyone who might be retiring. >> there's one name that keeps popping up? some quarterback you might have heard of. he's not the only one on a big day for the nfl with the retirement of the great peyton manning, the bucks had their own retirement take place and this affects the offensive, guard logan mankins calling it quits after eleven seasons in the nfl. most time spent with the new england patriots and for the past two seasons he has solidified the guard position. the offense for the bucs took a turn for the positive in 2015. it was not enough to convince

now four headlines, peyton manning has decided to go out while still on top. the denver broncos quarterback announced he's retiring from the national football league. he leaves the game weeks after winning his second super bowl despite a season riddled with injuries. flags over the u.s. capitol are flying at half staff today to honor the late nancy reagan. the former first lady died yesterday at her home in los angeles. she was 94. mrs. reagan will be buried next to her husband at the ronald reagan presidential library. we're going to take a closer look at her life in just a few minutes. number three, jurors are deliberating in aaron andrews $75 million lawsuit against her stalker and hotel and management.

humiliated and suffers from depression as a result of the videos seen by millions online. the hotel says andrews convicted stalker is to blame for the crime. mac users you may not be as safe as you think, for the first time a malicious software called ransom ware has successfully targeted apple computers. they claim apple is correcting the issue. ransom ware is software that high jackets a use -- hijacks a user and demands ransom. matt galka has the story now from our capitol bureau. >> reporter: police departments that choose to use body cameras will have to adhere to uniformed policies across the state under a bill that's on its way to the governor. the bill doesn't mandate that police police departments use the body cameras. it just sets rules for how they

welcome back. sometimes it's the smallest, simplest things that mean the most like having clean clothe. >> that's why the laundry project is now growing and expanding. it's a project helping low income families with one of life's basics. here's 8 on your side's stacie schaible to explain. >> a lot of families have to choose between buying groceries or washing their clothes. >> reporter: and when faced with that decision. >> to me that's not a choice anyone ever has to make. food always wins out. >> reporter: jason seoul, a former youth minister launched the laundry project back in 2008. after doing a lot of mission work in other countries. >> i realized passing neighborhoods in our city are helping other countries to help people that are just as bad off. >> reporter: that's how the

pay for their laundry in our backyard, was born. >> we had no organization to it. i worked with college students at the time, and just a bunch of random people showing up and trying to pay for laundry, and interesting responses. we had people that were like, what are you doing. why are you in the neighborhood. what do you want from us. >> what they wanted was to give back, and now the idea has spread like wildfire. last year there were 90 laundry projects in 24 cities. they did 23,000 loads of clothes for 2400 families. >> how do you get the word out? >> word of mouth, honestly. word spreads fast. when they see our signs go up and we hang our banners up and show up to do the laundry projects, it's a couple phone calls and we get flooded pretty quickly. >> reporter: the volunteers pay the laundry fees and bring all the supplies along with doughnuts and coffee. their goal is simple, to brighten the day of those who struggle to pay for even the most basic things in life.

weekend rain chances for you. unfortunately, yes, that looks like that's when the rain is moving in. for the rest of tonight, it's going to stay quiet. temperatures warm at 9:00 p.m. upper 60s waking up tomorrow morning. still a little bit cool. if you get cold easily you may want a slight sweater. by 3:00 p.m., we're back up to 80 degrees with above average temperatures expected through the day. so there's that area of high pressure, sitting off the coast of florida, and this is allowing those southeasterly winds to bring in some warmer air. as you wake up tomorrow morning, temperatures will be very close to normal for this time in the upper 50s for the most part, and then by the afternoon hours, we make it up to 80 degrees, inland spots making their way into the low to mid-80s. expect lots of sunshine through the day, and really quiet conditions. that's what this high pressure does. it blocks out rain systems from moving in. it's mild again wednesday morning, in the low 60s to begin with, and then we're topping out in the low to mid- 80s by the afternoon hours. so temperatures really start to heat up with high pressure in

as we head into thursday, more of the same. high pressure off to the east, all the rain around texas and the southeast. this is where the moisture is. for us, we're looking at dry conditions continuing through the end of this week with even warmer temperatures. here's a look at our temperature trend. you can see the very warm temperature trends build in as we head into the end of this week. we're looking at well above average temperatures. 10 degrees above average by thursday. all of us will be in the mid, maybe even upper 80s on the map as we head into thursday afternoon. then we start to see changes. the area of low pressure finally starts to make progress, the high and warm temperatures move out, and we'll start to see rain moving in, unfortunately the timing falls this weekend, don't have it exactly mapped out just yet. a little bit better of a chance for later in the day on saturday. so some rain is possible next weekend. until then, we are keeping the rain chances at 0. it's going to stay quiet and dry for us. currently, temperatures are in the upper 70s.

if you're heading out for a late afternoon walk. 77 in russian -- ruskin and venice. 78 in brooksville as well. as you take a step back, you can see very warm temperatures across the heartland of the country. we're up to 75 in st. louis this afternoon. 68 in atlanta and 70 in wichita. really mild air across much of the country today, much like we're dealing with. low 70s, mostly clear skies. waking up tomorrow morning, around 58 degrees. were today. you may still want a light sweater. again, you don't need it for long. we're back up to 80 by tomorrow afternoon with plenty of sunshine around. notice those temperatures continue to rise, as we head into the ending of this week, until the weekend rolls in, and rain chances move in. of course, don't forget to set saturday night. thank you. 8 is on your side with what morning commute.

the royal family on vacation. kensington palace showed new photos of the royal family during their vacation in the french alps and those pictures are all over the internet today. the duke and duchess of cambridge, and of course their children, george and charlotte spent a lot of time until the snowy slopes last week. the palace says it was the first vacation together as a family of four, and the first time that prince george and princess charlotte played in the snow. certainly looks like a lot of fun and beautiful family pictures. also some beautiful pictures of the northern lights are popping up all over the internet today. these pictures are from england and ireland. the colors are amazing. the pics are both from twitter, some including astro photographer, sam cornwell had time lapse videos of the spectacular light know. and in the uk, the northern lights are usually visible, only in the northern most regions of scotland. this is rare, and the uk's official weather service told the press association that a lucky combination of conditions
