very hard to win over some bay area voters. rubio is set to take the stage any moment. newschannel8's john rogers is there and we will have a live report from him coming up in just a few minutes. meantime tonight, voters in a handful of states including michigan are headed to the polls to choose their party's nominee. to get a look at what we can expect tonight, let's go right to our washington dc bureau mark meridith. >> reporter: the campaign is heating up in florida. but that is still a week away. there are still four states voteing to night. what is interesting is these candidates while they are already looking ahead, a lot of people are looking at donald trump's campaign and whether or not he may be losing any steam. it is a race with no end in sight. today voters in four states from the midwest to the hawaii islands are heading to the

about getting out the vote. >> we will do very, very well in michigan. >> reporter: but senator sanders faces an uphill battle against hillary clinton whose sizable lead can be counted on thanks to superdelegates who pledge their support to her. as for republicans. >> this place is packed right? >> reporter: now it appears donald trump is facing a closer race. and there are increasing questions if his lead will last. a washington post poll shows him with a nine point lead over texas senator ted cruz followed by florida senator marco rubio and governor john kasich of ohio. but it is senator cruz who had impressive wins in kansas and maine catching up fast. trump only has an 84 delegate lead. rubio and kasich are far behind the lead, but say they are not going anywhere. >> when you run for president,

but being president is even harder. >> reporter: never a dull moment to say the least. donald trump will host another prime time press conference as the results come in. but they may take a little while. with hawaii voting it will not happen until late florida time. >> mark, it is clear the so- called republican establishment is not thrilled with their front runner and the democrats are taking note of that too which is a problem. but let's think about this. if trump can win florida next week, what are the chances that the gop swallows hard if you will and begins to embrace trump as the presumptivive nominee? what are the odds of that? >> reporter: well, we thought we were seeing that a few weeks ago, but then with mitt romney's comments last week, all of a sudden, it seemed the party was backing ted cruz. romney was doing robo calls. but he wasn't endorsing a

i know we taped one of marco rubio doing one for john kasich. so it seems like there is the antitrump sentiment. once somebody runs away with the delegates i think we have to look at a different story. >> you have jeb bush, we are done with jeb. marco rubio, over to cruz. what do you do with cruz? mark meridith. thank you. we will continue to monitor this. meantime, democratic presidential candidates hillary clinton and bernie sanders are both planning campaign stops in tampa this week. the sanders campaign announcing today he will hold a rally thursday at the florida state fairgrounds. clinton will also be in tampa on thursday. she will be talking to supporters at the ritz. florida's presidential preference primary. march 15, everything you need to know about that voting in the primary is on wfla.com. hulk hogan went back to the witness stand in saint petersburg in his lawsuit against the website gawker.

[ sound of gunfire ] >> investigators determined the use of deadly force was justified in this case. the justice department is investigating the fbi agents' actions. investigators now believe a mud slide was to blame for a train derailment that left 14 people hurt in northern california. it swept a tree onto the track and that caused the commuter rail car to tumble 50 feet into a creek. submerged as firefighters pulled people from the train. >> we tried to pull one person out while the tree was hanging. >> 10 people had minor injuries with another four seriously injured but amazingly, none of the injuries appear to be life threatening. the state of florida is

>> the justice department wants a second opinion in its fight to get apple to unlock an iphone.

new york ruled last week that he cannot force apple to hack into a drug dealer's phone. on tuesday, the justice department asked a federal judge to revisit that decision. the fbi and apple are also fighting over a locked iphone used by one of the san bernardino terrorists. and now, an update to an ongoing 8 on your side investigation. shannon behnken joins us for the story she is working onto night at 11:00. >> reporter: that's right keith. our investigation uncovered a massive sink hole under tampa apartment complexes and we are getting answers from city officials. it was found under the french quarter apartments seven years ago but the property owner never notified city officials it was not fixed. when we found out about it, we brought this issue tonight. the engineers told us this hole is among the worst sink hole activity they have ever seen. city officials demanded answers. they demanded further testing and tonight, we will see the results of those. they are in, we have them. we have been talking to the city. they will lay out their plan

>> that is coming up tonight at 11:00. the answers. >> thank you shannon. landmark decision that could change the way hotels enforce security measures. a jury awarded erin andrews $55 million in her lawsuit against her stalker and a hotel ownership group. we wanted to know if travelers would now consider doing anything differently when they book a hotel room. jamel lanee joins us now live in downtown tampa and i know this case has some people thinking twice. it is a story a lot of people are talking about. >> reporter: jenn, it has a lot of people talking. many of these travelers are looking at this story and keeping it in the back of their head when they are booking these hotel rooms from now on. hotel managers say if this trial has done anything, it has reenforced the policies in place to make customers feel safe like they were before.

from new york. her constant traveling keeps her in a hotel. >> as a preferred member of a lot of the hotels i try to leverage that to make sure i'm in a secure part of the hotel and set my expectations. >> reporter: for her, the erin andrews trial was an eye opener. not only does she consider her safety, but also the safety of her clients who she is responsible for booking rooms for. she says this goes to show anyone could be watching you. >> like in the erin andrews case, they knew her. it could be someone who sighing someone in the lobby with nice jewelry. >> reporter: guest safety is always the top priority. but so is customer satisfaction. >> the challenge for us i think in the industry is we train our employees to say yes to guest requests. it is part of being service oriented and helping a guest. >> reporter: but now guests will understand when services can't be granted. >> we have trained our employee

retrain them to know this is the one instant that is okay. >> the property we stay at to make ourself feel safe has to maintain the safety and privacy of their guests. >> reporter: and many of these guests that we spoke to said never had they thought about covering peephole ins their room or having to alert hotel staff whether they have a guest coming or not. but, it is definitely something to ponder on. jenn? >> i'm curious, did you have an opportunity to talk to these folks about whether or not they agree with the judgment that the hotel should take some financial responsibility? >> reporter: many of the guests side with erin in this case saying that the hotel is responsible because ultimately, you are at their establishment. >> jamel lanee live in tampa for us. thank you. well, back to the marco rubio report.

in sarasota. there are nominating contests in several states today, but rubio is not expected to win any of those. >> florida is definitely his last stand. if he doesn't win here, his presidential campaign is all but finished. john rogers joins us live in a rally in sarasota. rubio expected to take the >> reporter: he certainly is. it is a packed house. we are going to pan up. some folks are here as we await the senator to come out. we spoke with them a few minutes ago. this is going to be a big contest for rubio coming up on tuesday as we know, florida is offering 99 delegates. if he can obtain those, it would change the momentum of this entire race. he is criss-crossing the state showing the voters why they should pick him over trump. let's get a listen. >> i'm a real conservative. i have a 15 year record of

second, i would say i have a message about how we are going to make our country better in a message backed up by specific ideas. the next president of the united states will be the commander-in-chief. no one running for president on the republican side has more experience or more better judgment or better understanding on national security issues than i do. no one has spent more time outlining specific public policy. i will beat hillary clinton and the democrats know that. donald trump will lose to hillary clinton and they know that too. that is why they hope he is the nominee. >> reporter: and he will share more remarks when he is speaks to the crowd here. we are hoping he will be here some time in the next few minutes. he be able to gain some delegates in the primary race to night across the country and he is touting the message. he is committed saying he will become the republican's nominee.

six children were on a texas school bus when it became stuck in high water this morning. the bus game stranded in about three feet of flood water. crews were able to carry the children to a nearby boat that was on a trailer and connected to a truck. the truck and the bus were then moved out of the water onto dry land. areas in texas are inundated with water after some severe storms. our meteorologist steve jerve knows all about it. >> an area of low pressure is stuck out there. with the same nice weather you are experiencing in florida. they are getting rain in one spot over and over. >> as you said, it is nice here for us. >> yeah. our high pressure is helping us out. getting us very nice day. certainly a warmer day overall. temperature of 80 degrees now. we talked about this pocket of hitting 80s . we have seen that today at plantation, crystal river. east winds at two miles an hour in the western part of citrus county. down in the southern part of manatee county. almost into sarasota county.

we have an east wind here. you can see the winds coming out of the south in freedom plaza. throughout the day. this is in sun city center in hillsborough county. also, jupiter is really bright in the sky after sunset. p.m. jupiter is one of the brightest things in the sky other than the moon which is always pretty bright this time of year. in clearwater, bradenton, lakeland, and, nationals play the tigers in lakeland. 79 degrees. very nice baseball weather this time of year. great shot from paul in downtown tampa. a few cloud ins the area but mostly clear skies. 71 degrees at 8:00 p.m. temperature ins the mid to upper 60s . fairly mild. hour by hour here on the weather wheel. at 7:00 a.m., 62 degrees. a lot of sunshine.

all the sunshine and a warm southeasterly wind help today lift it into the low 80s . might be a little warmer. 77 degrees clear water beach. it is pretty consistent. he hit 80 in bartow. high pressure is our big feature at the surface and aloft. this activity back to the west as you can see. sections of houston, texas all the way up into polices like arkansas seeing the strong to severe thunderstorms at times. they do have a tornado watch as a result of that area of low pressure. but that's the reason for the flooding. it lines up over a long period of time. this is why you get the flooding. high pressure gives us a southeasterly wind. you can see that on the movement of the clouds here. there have been quite a few more clouds. you can just detect the overall

at the fair weather clouds that develop today. that will be our feature the next several days looks like as the ridge is holding. and this trough continues to pour showers and stormy conditions on portions of the south. no need for a jacket to start the day as we start to get a bit milder each day. wednesday afternoon, plenty of sunshine reaching into the low 80s for us. you can see with the same flow as we follow the lines of equal pressure. keeps us warm and keeps these folks stormy until the bridge breaks down and the trough gets some movement. stormy all the way into the end of the week. we have shifted the rain chance or the timing on it. we talked about this yesterday. how this could possibly happen. we would have to mess with it. the computer model is still
