a picture as well. look at it. the two men wearing dark shirts are believed to have blown themselves up in the attack. the third in a light jacket is believed to be on the run. 31 people were killed and at least 200 more injured. the majority of them were injured here at the maelbeek metro station. it happened at a security check point for ticketed passengers. an hour later ten miles away, a suicide attack happened on the subway. isis is claiming responsibility for the attacks and belgium is on lockdown. subway bus and train service is canceled. >> it is a devastating situation that has the entire world now on alert. we have team coverage for you tonight. let's start with jenn holloway in the tampa news center. you have been watching this unfold all day. that's the latest?

left at least 31 people dead and 200 injured. a full investigation has been launched. here in america, u.s. officials are reacting quickly to step up security here. isis is claiming credit for the bombings of an airport and train station in brussels. dozens are dead and scores are wounded. >> we had to run. >> we felt a small blast of air the distance. >> reporter: in cuba, president obama was briefed on the tragedy. he pledged a global response. >> stand in solidarity with them in condemning these outrageous attacks against innocent people. >> reporter: this surveillance photo highlights a long standing fear. basically u.s. train stations targets. >> this event took place not inside the airport beyond the security.

ashton carter told lawmakers homeland security is not enough. >> we want to accelerate the defeat of isil in iraq and syria. why? because that is the parent tumor of the cancer. >> reporter: a deadly attack overseas hitting close to home. also, belgium's ambassador to the united states says his country knew an attack was coming and they stepped up security, but it was unable to stop this tragedy. >> jenn holloway live in our tampa news center. thank you jenn. the bombings come days after belgian authorities arrested suspects in the paris attacks. it is unknown if they are related. the attacks are front and center in the presidential race. all of the candidates have condemned the attacks. >> this is not a lone wolf.

>> even if we built a tall wall around the entire continental united states, the internet would still get over it. >> meanwhile, across the united states, national security officials are on guard for the potential of any copy cat attacks. our team coverage of the cowardly terrorist attacks continues now. we want to bring in jim osmon. are you noticing any increased security there? >> reporter: we are. the amtrak station is there. the dc transit system and the marked trains are there in the suburbs and up to baltimore. we have heard and we have seen today that in particular with amtrak as passengers get on, apparently some of them are being pulled aside having their bags checked. that is not typical getting

your viewers know going from dc all the way to new york city. if you hop on a train, you just show your ticket and get on normally. >> how about the airports? dc has several flights that go direct to belgium. any word on extra security there? >> reporter: well, the flights to brussels have stopped for now. obviously, the rest of the international travelers obviously have concerns tonight about security and there is increased security there as well as at reagan international airport which is where a lot of the lawmakers and lobbyists fly out of. a lot of folks are headed to reagan to fly out as well as bwi with a mix of domestic and international flights. we checked in with them and they increased security as well. >> not taking any chances. jim, live in dc. thank you very much. just an hour-and-a-half

brussels landed at sanford airport. they refused to let it anywhere near the terminal. all the passengers were searched and loaded on a bus while security checked the plane. there is plenty of reaction at home to the attacks on brussels. increased security is happening across the country. candace mccowan joins us now live from tampa international airport. are they beefing up security there as well? >> good evening jenn. not a lot that would impact passengers. this is a busy time of year here at tampa international with spring breakers traveling in and out of the city. but you will see a lot more people here in uniform. brussels is thousands of miles away, but on the minds of travelers at tia. >> i never worry about that. i never have in the past. that's a new thing to worry about now. >> reporter: traveler patrick is talking about common areas.

that is where the explosions happened in brussels an where you can now find additional officers. >> we have more tsa agents and k-9 units. >> reporter: security expert craig was in brussels in january teaching a class on preparing for an active shooter in response to the paris attacks. >> we have seen a significant increase in security. a lot of that is aimed to protect the government institutions and the european institutions. >> reporter: in brussels, two uss sarasota manatee staff members are safe. they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> my personal feeling is that attack had been planned for some time. however, the arrests yesterday gave imminence to the situation, probably sped up the attack time line. >> reporter: well as for the two staff members from manatee, i understand they were working onsetting up study abroad programs. no word on when they will return home.

>> candace, you said folks can expect to see more people in uniform, but what about the mood at the airport? this time of year is pretty celebratory. people are happy to be out of the cold and down here for spring break. are you sensing any difference in mood in the wake of the attacks? >> reporter: we talked to a lot of people here. and a lot of them are asking why we are here. we said we are covering the attacks in brussels. a lot of them wondering if that will have any impact on them here at home. a lot of them jus waiting and watching at this point. >> it is a global effect, terrorism is. candace mccowan live in tampa for us. thank you. we want to give you a live look at a vigil in brussels. you can see flowers and signs left to honor the 31 people killed. also, we have another live picture to show you of the white house. flags there are at half staff. that happened just a short time ago in a show of solidarity as

but also a lot of support jenn. >> jeff, you have been to cuba there now. what are they saying about the president's visit? >> reporter: they are expressing concern mostly over trying to get tickets to today's baseball game. some people are angry, but others are happy about what president obama is doing. >> jeff patterson live in ybor city. thanks jeff. here is breaking news to tell you about now. part of denver international airport has been evacuated due to a security threat. part of the west side in the main terminal. the east side of the terminal is still open and flights are continuing as normal. more information from this breaking news as soon as we get some new information. heightened security around the world. on the weather front, things sure are nice. >> i don't know if the sky gets much bluer than it is today.

when you start in march with the warm march sunshine, you know you will have a nice day. low 70s , bright sunshine. doesn't get much better. 73-degree is the current temperature. you can see out in polk county. bright sunshine like everywhere else. a bit of an easterly breeze. that will tell us with our changes coming the next couple of days. adding moisture back into the atmosphere. the plantation in crystal river, 67 degrees. a little cool here. and, the western part of citrus county, north winds at 5 miles an hour. obviously a beautiful day. nice day to be at the pool. maybe a little cooler if you are in the shade, but if you are in the sun, no problem at all. you know the spring breakers are loving this. water temperature has cooled down a little bit. now, 65 degrees. partly cloudy skies. stays on the dry side. got a rocket launch here at 11:05 at cape canaveral. a cargo delivery flight to the

should be good atmospheric conditions to check out. josh mentioned the blue skies. a dense area of high pressure, dry air aloft. that will make for good viewing. 65 degrees at 8:00 p.m. temperatures falling through the 60s . not as cool tonight. very chilly numbers. low 40s . upper 30s in some of the northern areas. patchy frost. 57 degrees at 7:00 a.m. the forecast continues to call for a nice day for tomorrow. warming trend for sure. lifting us near 80 for a high. largely thanks to the easterly flow. now, temperatures are mostly in the 07s . brandon, river view, 75, 76. a little cooler on the beaches. with a breeze off the cooler gulf of mexico. it is probably fairly chilly. if you can get out of the wind in the sun, it makes for a nice day. mid and upper 70s . arcadia, dry air aloft. it is very dry air. you can see that is colored in

high pressure will continue to dominate in the forecast. right now, it is providing us with a northerly flow. as we transition to tomorrow, we will continue with a northeast flow. that will make it milder. a trail of high clouds across the southern part of the state. you can see just a few popup clouds and an indication of a few fair weather clouds. the air will feel a little warmer because we will add a little humidity back in. really nice overnight. mostly clear conditions and waking up, a sunny started to the day not as cold with temperature ins the 50s . pretty close to normal. probably a couple of degrees below. by wednesday afternoon and evening, another dry day. very quick warmup for us with a southeasterly breeze. thursday morning, mostly sunny and mild. temperature ins the 70s it looks like. thursday afternoon, a few showers and storms will develop later in the day. we are getting back into a southerly flow. computer models are enhancing the rain chance.

that is where the unsettled nature of the forecast starts. 82 degrees for thursday. friday, 40% chance. the front stalls out. the presence of the front gives us an on and off chance of showers that probably peak on saturday. but the presence of the front itself is also an area where showers can develop. so for good friday, 40% chance easter sunday. hopefully early in the day for morning services at sunrise and others. first half of the day, we should be nice and mild. but rain chance is 30% for that day. so it is getting unsettled here at the end of the week into the weekend. >> thank you sir. mother nature can't get the timing right. >> never does. >> thank you. well, the fight between apple and the fbi is on hold apparently. >> coming up next, why the u.s. may not need apple's help to
