changing at summer lake villas. >> before the olympics, there were concerns about exposing athletes to danger and disease. tonight, a bay area swimmer reveals what it is really like to live in rio. good evening, i'm jennifer leigh. >> i'm keith cate. thank you for joining us tonight. right now, neighborhoods underwater. dozens of roads now closed and people, many trapped in their homes. a wave of wet weather has been drenching the bay area for days now. >> and we have team coverage of this weather for you toni >> jamel lanee is in pasco county where many are dealing with severe flooding but let's start with chief meteorologist steve jerve and a look at the radar. steve? >> reporter: a watch has been dropped by the national weather service, but obviously, many areas continue to see flooding. it is the additional heavy rainfall that would lead to additional flooding i think the weather service was concerned about. the next 24 to 36 hours we will start to see improvement in our weather picture. showers are certainly still possible. 77 degrees.

half inches of rain with southwesterly winds with showers continueing to come on shore. so fairly heavy precipitation has been occurring the last 24 hours. if you have not seen any at your home, we have seen some in some portions of the bay area. the showers are still possible across the region. we saw a line coming ashore, doing that now. definitely losing its intensity as it moves off to the east. very strong thunderstorms across the east coast and also you can see county. heavier activity. mostly light stuff. northern counties. those showers look more impressive than they actually are. they are weakening as they get a little close tore the coastline. you can see rain in and around the area. as we look at some of the totals here, over eight inches of rain has fallen at weeki wachee, spring hill, palm harbor, all the way down to macdill. you can see impressive totals here. very high amounts. estimates from doppler radar have said the same thing over

three, four, five inches of rain in some regions. flooding can still occur, though the flood watch has dropped. >> thanks steve. we will check back with you in a few minutes. there are more than two dozen streets in pasco county with limited access because of the flooding. >> it has gotten worse for residents in one neighborhood in particular. our team coverage continues with jamel lanee. she is live >> some of the water started to recede yesterday. >> reporter: but after more heavy rainfall, that retention pond is now part of people's front yards. a lot of these people are feeling very trapped and they can't go anywhere. cassie could only watch as flood watcher inches closer to her front door. >> coming outside to see our yard is now part of the pond.

pond started to overflow yesterday because of heavy rain. officials said two more than two dozen streets along pasco county have limited access. crews are back in neighborhoods pumping after more rain fell this morning. >> with it raining more than what they were able to pump, it is not helping a whole lot today. >> reporter: she hopes the additional sandbags she receives today protect her home. it is already too late for her car. >> it is terrifying. we have two pregnant women in myself included and having my three-year-old son here and my animals, and everything that belongs to us. >> reporter: she prays mother nature lets up soon. >> the rain need to stop ultimately. hoping that we can get out in time with our animals and our family. and just get to safety. >> reporter: now, as you can see, within the last hour, we have had not one, not two, but

neighborhood helping to get some of this water out of here. so some of the people in this area can get some relief. keith? >> the trucks do a pretty good job. and you have the tide coming in and out. this water can go up and down. do you see any receding? any hope for these people? >> reporter: well, i can show you the water line from this morning. this is where it was up this morning, so, you can see, it has started to recede just a little bit. but, again, without these trucks doing this job, you know, it might be days before these residents can try to get out of this neighborhood and get to safety. >> it's a long way to go. it is like a soup bowl. thank you. >> jamel lanee live for us in pasco county. thanks jamel. the parents of two americaned killed in benghazi are suing hillary clinton. they claim the attack was directly caused by her use of a private e-mail server in the state department.

trump. meantime, the spokesman of the republican party of florida is also saying that he does not want to support donald trump. he is stepping down from his job yesterday. he is of hispanic descent. candace mccowan joins us live. he was often a voice of republicans in florida. we heard from him a lot. >> reporter: we heard from him quite often. he says he wants to continue wog policy, but he wants to do it in a way that can avoid supporting donald trump. >> he completely laid out time after time how the former secretary of state did not come ply with the law. >> reporter: a month ago, gaitan was speaking out against democratic nominee hillary clinton. never clinton is his message. but he also found himself defending the republican party of florida from the trump campaign.

accusations, give false statements. it doesn't help to unite our party. >> reporter: he is now deciding to take a position where he doesn't have to support the nominee. tampa hispanic entrepreneur roberto torres says he understands. >> they have to reach more to hispanics and more to women and more to all different minorities. they want to do exactly the opposite. >> reporter: some might say trump has a hispanic problem. nationally view donald trump unfavorably and florida, only 12% of hispanics support trump. shelley hernandez mill sir one of those supporters. >> i'm from cuba. we came over from political exiles. i don't agree with everything mr. trump says but he is my candidate. >> reporter: the path to the white house has included a win here in florida for decades. shelley is willing to go door to door to swing support his

i will campaign for him. >> reporter: she represents a divide among hispanics. cubans typically vote republican. we will have to wait and see if donald trump puts a dent in the poll numbers. >> candace mccowan thank you. i was looking at some of the numbers. prior to 2008 and barack obama, the state's latino vote leaned republican with the large cuban voting block. 479,000 registered. more are registered as no party affiliation. so candace mccowan pointing out a new trend there perhaps. there are cases of locally transmitted zika viruses. they are asking they pass emergency funding. the total number of transmitted cases is now 21. the department of health believes all of the transmissions are taking place in the same small area of miami-

caught up with him to ask about his experiences living in the olympic village. >> before i came out here, i heard a lot of people say the athlete village is a nonstop party. is it? >> it is just crazy. yeah. a small area, the best athletes in the entire world, so it is crazy in there. but it's a lot of fun. and when people have to get serious, they get focused and whatnot. it is crazy and i love it. >> have you portuguese? >> hardly any. hello and good-bye. >> oy is hello. just like at home. i remember that one thing. >> okay, i'm the one who needs to learn portuguese. have you tried any food yet? any experiences? >> in the cafeteria, actually, there is i think they call it the life of brazil i think?

things. actual cooler temperatures if you want to call it less hot. 87 degrees for a high on wednesday. but, for our return to normal meaning more sunshine back in the forecast early in the day, and showers and thunderstorms later in the day, yeah temperatures close tore the average of 90 degrees. 91, 92. a few showers continue to try to come on shore weakening some. that is perhaps an indication that the area of low pressure is moving a little further away from us. although energized you can see on the east coast, the li coast sea breeze. there is a severe thunderstorm warning way out of the newschannel8 viewing area. north to south, a few showers, light stuff. coming closer to coastal areas. you folks in flooded areas are watching for additional rain and you may see light to moderate activity. 76 degrees. a shower chance in the forecast for the early part of the day. but probably not as widespread or voluminous as we saw this

87 at 4:00 p.m. clouds mostly i think we will see a bit more sunshine as we get into thursday. 80 degrees clearwater beach. a cooler day overall. not a surprise since we have seen the clouds and of course the showers move on shore. this area of low pressure is still here, but slowly backing to the northwest. quite a bit of rain way out in gulf of mexico. the radar can only see so far, but a lot of moisture out here. a lot of moisture in our atmosphere. you can see this counterclock we looked at this yesterday. you can see how it sort of controls the flow. and for us at the surface, it does help to keep the southwest in place. kind of over water. kind of over land. our local weather picture. this continueds to keep occasional showers moving inland. we have seen developing showers

start out with mostly cloudy skies as i mentioned for the evening hours as we go into the early morning hours. we see the possibility of seeing a shower especially in the northern spots as we have been saying the past four or five days. the best chance of seeing a shower or the midday for tomorrow still the chance of showers developing and if we do break out a little bit of sunshine, most of the activity will continue to build inland like we have seen on a typical day. but as we get to the end of the week, we flow. rain chance fairly high tomorrow at 60%. backing off to 50% on thursday. 40% for friday. and then a drier weekend which means more sunshine. good timing for those that might want to enjoy some sunshine after a cloudy week. if you have been cheated. when you need help, she's on your side. better call behnken. >> investigator shannon behnken kept up the pressure at a new port richey apartment complex

broken elevatorsful these elevators stopped working during a lightning storm. this was a major concern because the apartment is popular with disabled residents because of its access to elevators. when they stopped working some of those residents were left stranded inside their apartments for weeks. that is when they knew they better call behnken. investigator shannon behnken joins me now with an update to this story. >> reporter: last week, management promised me they would have the managers all fixed within two weeks so i gave them a women of extra days unannounced. after weeks of being stuck on the third floor because his apartment elevator was broken, william cooper finally has his freedom back. >> i like going down to where the edge of the pond is. it is beautiful wildlife down here. >> reporter: i jumped into this elevator disaster at summer lake villas after residents reached out to me for help. a lightning storm knocked out

disabled residents stranded. some, like cooper, were forced to use ambulance transport services to get downstairs for emergency can care. >> that is ridiculous. >> reporter: i went to the pasco county commission for answers. i pressed department managers for answers. and on day 17, cooper's elevator was the first one fixed. >> i'm very happy for it. i thank you for all of the work you did for it. >> reporter: i went back a week later to check the elevators and found them working and gayle mcdaniel finally able to get down from the second floor. >> i have all my freedom back now. >> reporter: mcdaniel was trapped more than two weeks an had to miss several important doctor's visits. for her, the elevator started working again just in time. >> i was so trapped in this apartment. i couldn't hardly take it no more. >> reporter: we saw several people using the elevators
