siesta key. the heartbreaking question during the investigation. lightning shatters the sky and close calls caught on camera coming up. and i am jennifer leigh >> i'm keith cate and thanks for joining us. according to rio police they live. olympic swimmer ryan lochte and three of his teammates claimed they were robbed in rio sunday but surveillance video sheds light on what really happened. let's get to joining us live in rio. police held a news conference a few hours ago. what new did we learn from that?>> reporter: here is exactly what we learned. we can't figure out why ryan lochte and his teammates made up the story. according to brazilian police that's exactly what they did. they just made it up. security video from a gas station near olympic parts shows ryan lochte and the teammates attempting to use the

door to the bathroom and when the owner demanded they pay for it they handed over money. soon after they arrived back at the athletes village. four days ago ryan lochte told a dramatically different story to nbc. >> cockpit and put into my forehead and said get down. i put my hands up and said whatever. >> reporter: even last night ryan lochte maintained his story that he was robbed but police say after interviews with his teammates the robbery story was fabricated. police and likely everyone else are not sure why. how the usoc will handle the athletes remains a question but teammates are not happy. >> olympians coming to a foreign country have a responsibility to represent our country the right way and from what i hear that was not the case in that situation. it is disappointing because we are all one team, one team usa and it reflects on all of us and i hope it's not true but if

shocking crime in paradise. a 16-year-old boy stabbed his mother and younger brother while they were vacationing on siesta key. john rogers found out deputies are still trying to piece together what happened. >> reporter: good evening. a shocking case with a lot of questions. the arrest documents the teen admitted he had a great time with his family but stabbed them anyway. this ramgren joined his mother melissa and his brother charles on a vacation to siesta key. they were visiting from massachusetts but in a twist deputies say wednesday night gust ramgren stabbed in his family multi- possible -- multiple times on turtle beach. >> when you come to paradise it doesn't always mean everything is rosy. >> reporter: after he stepped his family he took off and went to a home a few blocks from

didn't want to be on camera but the team that his family was attacked and then sat down and buried his head in his hands. when deputies caught up to him he admitted to the crime. first responders treated his injured family members and the arrest report described the heartbreaking moment with the younger brother. charles stated he thought he was going to die and asked why his brother would do this. locals are stunned it. turtle beach is known for being a quiet haven on siesta key. >> one of the last places i would expect something like this to >> reporter: melissa and charles ramgren were transported to local hospitals and gust ramgren has been issued two counts of attempted second-degree murder. melissa and charles were badly injured but expected to survive . gust ramgren is in the custody of the department of juvenile justice and the cases under investigation. john rogers news channel 8. a bolt of lightning blame for starting a house fire in largo last night the kept dozens of firefighters for

the roof of the home with water to get the fire out. the lightning storm caught on camera by a man who just recently moved to florida. we go live where the storm chasers shot to the video we will see. >> reporter: good evening, keith. he said he'd only been here a couple of weeks but the lightning here lives up to its reputation. caleb elliot footage of mother nature in motion last night. he was caught up on the storm while driving on the maiden causeway. >> the shelf cloud was moving across the bay and a lot of lightning coming out of it. probably some of the most intense lightning i have seen in a good number of years. >> reporter: a storm chaser who hails from the midwest he says he's not in kansas anymore. >> i will say florida has not disappointed me with the weather so far.

are. thunderstorms continue along the sea breeze and the east coast sea breeze colliding with it. west coast sea breeze made more progress to the east today and that's why you see more thunderstorms colliding with that coming from the east coast. these white dots are lightning strikes across the northwest part of hillsborough. moving into the northern part of pinellas county moving to the west and good downpours locked in as well. mostly inland things are quiet but thunderstorm activity in sections of manatee county and sarasota county. this line here is the radar ck provides cooler temperatures in some of those areas. 77 to start the day and high 92 tomorrow. a typical summer day and temperatures mostly in the 80s and rain cold numbers. 85 sebring. 76 like lasted. 92 crystal river. overall clearly you see the easterly flow moving across the state and that's the case on

not a lot of widespread coverage but action along the sea breeze where we live. pattern change and high pressure build south and west for us. that's a southeasterly flow and the easterly breeze we have been seeing in as the high gets pushed south we see in onshore flow taking shape this weekend. that generates slight possibility of morning shower on coastal areas and showers move inland as the day goes on. that's the pattern shift this weekend. 40% rain chance tomorrow and the rain chances ball to 30% saturday through tuesday. we might see showers each day but perhaps fewer of them. if you have been cheated when you need help she is on your side. better call behnken. >> investigator shannon behnken not giving up on palm harbor residents dealing with an abandoned home. it is falling apart and has rats. everyone involved with the house, the property owner, the county and banks have different

just moments ago the spokesman from bank of america call me back to said he doesn't yet have a final answer but he's getting closer. another lender is involved too and the question is if either bank even needs to sign off on this. >> sometimes you have multiple banks a multiple credit involved. do we know if bank of america actually stopped at the demolition last summer t >> this has been a puzzle and when i asked bank of america they said they did not do that but today a few minutes ago they said yes we actually did. it's all in limbo as far as who needs to sign off on it at all. they are working on it which is more than has happened in the past year. >> it takes a lot of time. thanks for staying on it and if you have a problem that needs solving better call behnken..
