>> right now on newschannel8 at 5:30. >> the hunt is on for two brazen burglars caught on camera stealing from a business in a quiet bay area community. i'm jennifer leigh. >> i'm josh benson. thanks for being with us. surveillance cameras were rolling as two bold burglars broke into a mom and pop diner and the who men were in before highland deputies were able to stop them. john rogers breaks it down frame by frame. >> reporter: good evening. when you look at this surveillance video, you will see how confident and quick these crooks were. it didn't matter that a surveillance camera was right in front of the door. just before 4:00 thursday morning these two men simply breakthrough the glass and walk inside market 27 in avon park. >> we found a spark plug out

glass. >> reporter: john is sadden to see these guys steal from him and his hard working family. they tug and kick to get the cash drawers out. >> it pains me to see somebody destroying our property like this. >> reporter: the two men wandered through the store trying to take every cash drawer they could find. >> one of them turns the lights on. oddly enough. >> reporter: in less than three minutes, they successfully steal three cash drawers and run out into the darkness. >> of course, and sort of hurt. who wouldn't feel that way? >> reporter: avon park is a quiet community and the workers here could have never expected this to happen. >> we treat our customers with respect. why they would come in here and do something like that, we don't know. >> reporter: market 27 is is a popular local hangout run by a kind hard working family. >> they are real nice.

try to look for the counterclock wise rotation. one thing we saw about it, there were thunderstorms toward the center. that is not saying much. because yesterday, we were very far apart from the center. mostly on the eastern side, you can see the general progression is to the west. that will help to increase the moisture at the very least. hurricane hunter aircraft flying out of the macdill air force base did determine winds of 28 miles an hour. flew around the very area you were just looking at. not seeing a lot. obviously, there's thunderstorms on the eastern then again, seeing land interaction. wind shear and dry air. the all-important spaghetti computer models, we try to get a conssus. they have been trending further to the west and gaining strength in the gulf of mexico. once it clears the florida straits, warmer waters, lower wind shear for the system itself. so, the weekend weather overall, 92 degrees on saturday. 91 on sunday. the rain chances do get progressively higher each day. and should this area of low

>> now to what's making headlines across america. a georgia police officer' in a burning suv. as this officer arrived to the scene, he grabbed his fire extinguisher and tried to put the fire out. but the impact bent the vehicle's frame and jammed the door shut so is officer bent it back and pulled the man through the window. as he did, an explosion under the hood knocked off his hat and body cam. the driver of that vehicle died. but without the officer's heroics, the passenger likely would have died as well.

performed on two nuns in their mississippi home. the women were found yesterday. their car was found abandoned a mile from the home and there were signs from a break in. a man was screaming that people were trying to kill him. when they tried to arrest him, he scaled a fence onto a runway, stole a pickup truck, and drove it into a southwest plane. no one in the plane was hurt, into custody. the judge known for giving a light sentence in a notorious sexual assault case will no longer handle criminal cases. aaron persky has been switched to civil. he became under intense criticism for a light judgment in a rape case. his new assignment begins september 6.
