good evening, i'm jennifer leigh. >> i'm keith cate. thank you for joining us. broken hearts, broken dreams, and broken promises. thousands of the itt tech students woke up to shocking news. their campuses were closed and we are talking all of them. for good. and that includes the tampa location on memorial highway which is where we find newschannel8's melanie michael live tonight. mel? >> reporter: hey keith, good evening to you. i have to tell you, this is heartbreaking. i have talked to so many students today who are devastated th locked and itt tech is not offering a lot of answers. as a child growing up in cuba, elian gonzalez had one dream. to become a nurse and help people to heal. her parents made that lifelong dream come true when their family moved to the united states. the 21-year-old student thought she had found her success story at itt tech in tampa. >> you want to make a better life for yourself.

takes it away from you like that. >> reporter: the tears began to fall as she shares her story of heartbreak after two years of hard work. her parents have worked two jobs to help pay for her education while she attended nursing school at itt tech. she even took a part time job to help support her mom and dad. and she doesn't have the heart to tell them what has happened. >> i haven't told them this story completely. they are working. i don't want to stress them out. but i know it is hard. >> reporter: this young student wants answers like so many others across the country and she is trying to find them on itt tech's website. but she gets the run around. even the teachers here are in tears. we were there as they cleaned out their desks. >> it is tough times. it is tough for the students, tough for everybody here. it is just what it is. >> reporter: itt tech blames financial problems for the

but, for elian, that is not good enough. >> basically, they are just letting us fail. whatever reason they had for closing. they need to let the students who want their career finish. >> reporter: my goodness. and your heart goes out to elian and so many others but keith, there's a silver lining. hillsborough community college is stepping in to help out. they announced late this afrn to offer any assistance they can to all the itt tech students when it comes to financial aid, transcripts. any questions they may have. starting tomorrow, all day long, those students can go to hcc and get the help they really need. because right now, itt tech is not giving anyone any answers including us. >> well, hopefully, the credits as well. all the work they have already contributed to this effort will be transferred over. so, we shall see. melanie michael live in tampa. thank you. well, hillary clinton just

laughs. okay? he laughs. putin, putin looks at hillary clinton and he smiles. boy, would he like to see her. that would be easy. because, just look at her decisions. look how bad her decisions have been. virtually every decision she has made has been a loser. >> trump also held a round table with military spouses. the latest nbc news survey poll has clinton ahead by six points. but, a cnn poll ha by two points. right now, dentate debate is underway for a zika bill. bill nelson pleaded for lawmaker to take action. just today, seven new non- travel related cases were found in miami-dade county. our josh benson joins us to talk a little bit more about it. the funding has a big push now. >> reporter: congress has been

they have to tackle a list of tasks. one of which, get reelected. fund the government is another big one. what many say the most important is for florida is pass the zika funding bill right away. >> reporter: lawmakers have a short critical to do list. they want to demonstrate they are responsible stewards of the congress and deserve to be returned to power. but it won't be easy. congress agreed on a spending bill after p his disease prevention team asked for $2 billion. but they couldn't agree on the unrelated add ons. senate democrats voted it down and accused republicans of playing politics. added their own measures. republicans didn't like that. so nothing was done. >> zika is an issue for this country. an international issue. not a florida issue. >> reporter: governor scott is disgusted by the inaction, canceled the trip to dc to personally lobby congress for

forced to reschedule after he deals with power outages caused by hermine. >> i don't want any additional cases in florida and the federal government needs to step up and be a partner. they have not been a partner. i have outstanding requests from the cdc i have had out for weeks now. >> reporter: so, congress needs to act. more cases found in florida. cdc director tom freed announced they had almost run out of money to fight the virus. the obama administration has redirected money eared are on congress right now to see if they will pass it. >> thank you, josh benson live in the tampa news center. the search is on for an killer after an online sale turned deadly in polk county. jeffrey morrow jr. went to the family dollar. his friend agreed to meet an online buyer there. the buyer snatched the item and ran instead of paying. morrow chased the man and

and ended up killing morrow. when buying and selling things online and doing the deals in person, there are a lot of steps you can take to make sure you are as safe as possible. 8 on your side's meridith joins us with that information. >> reporter: craigslist reports 80 million ads on its site each month. these safety rules apply to information including a home address. that means never meet at home. if you are using a facebook sales group, deal only with people you know. don't use your personal e-mail. also, meeting in a public place is important. consider meeting in a police station parking lot.

>> nearly a week after hurricane hermine, some pasco county neighborhoods are still dealing with flooding. emergency managers tell us 300 homes have major damage as a result of the storm. nine homes are destroyed by flood water or fallen trees. the county told us today they are making a full damage assessment to apply for federal funds. >> we want to make sure the that the residents of this community get every available grant opportunity or federal opportunity they can get. it is so very important. >> coming up gh newschannel8's jeff patterson talks to frustrated residents who want somebody done now after two straight years of flooding problems. man, you hate to see that. >> yeah. i mean, pasco county really has been hammer requested -- hammered with the storms. but it won't quit. it is still kind of lingering. >> a couple of weeks. the last advisory being issued now off the northeast coast. the rain left behind is a

category one hurricane. >> can you imagine a larger storm? >> that's the tropical weather for us. you can see the view at the plantation residential river. a beautiful day. humidity is a little lower. air is a little drier so places like the plantation are just a little bit less humid. not too bad here at veteran's ford here in tampa. you can see sunshine there. traffic moving along pretty good on the veteran's. that's a gorgeous view. air a little drier so maybe 87 degrees here in palm harbor with the northwest wind at 4 miles an hour. as we look at our high temperature it s the next couple of days. the air is a little drier but the high temperature is about normal. as we start to get into late september, that average high of 90 degrees will start to head south. and this is kind of a reminder feeling the drier air in the atmosphere today, that we are

7:00 a.m., 74 degrees. 90 degrees at 4:00 p.m. partly cloudy. 84 now clearwater. warm in inverness. 88 degrees. 90 in plant city. winter haven, 89. the dew points are a little lower. these dew points in the 60s near 70 degrees. that is probably noticeable drier air. especially in the evenings and mornings. feels a little cooler. a little more of a breeze. that is hermine there continuing to spin off the northeast coast. the area of formerly known as hermine will continue to be around there and cause higher seas around this area. maybe a few rain squalling squalls off the western side of it. south florida, that is where moist of the rain activity is located. 55 miles an hour winds for post tropical hermine. we will watch it on satellite

0% chance of this area in the tropics. a 70% chance coming off of africa getting into the peak of hurricane season. so that is not that much of a surprise. northeast and easterly wind moving everything in this fashion the rest of the evening. a few clouds around. they should dry up with the drier air we have as we get later in the day. the moisture forecast high above in the atmosphere will continue to remain drier through most of the week. that is why our rain chances will be a little lower. as we get into the end of the back. rain chances start to bump up a little bit too. rain chances are lower at 20% for wednesday, thursday. as we get into friday, saturday, moisture starts to come back. rain chances return to average levels. it won't be too long before we get into october. sea breeze showers will back off and we get into drier weather but not for now. if you have been cheated. when you need help, she's on your side. better call behnken.

who live around it, it is also dangerous. investigator shannon behnken is not giving up on palm harbor residents living by an abandoned home because things worsened after last week's big storm we have talked so much about. now, the residents are knowing. they knew they better call behnken again. shannon behnken is here to talk more about this house. it's problem. it has entered the danger zone. >> yep. that is what residents tell me. it looked really bad weeks ago when we were out there. now, it the county officials told me back then weeks ago it needs to come down, but without a bank's approval, not much can be done unless it is dangerous. neighbors feel we are way beyond that point. wind rips off stucco, wood, insulation leaving this home's rafters' completely exposed. >> it is an endangerment. it cannot be saved. it has to be taken down. >> reporter: residents along west wind's drive in palm

after five years of dealing with this abandoned home. they were fed up then when it looked like this. but now, after last week's storming, they feared someone could get hurt. >> and you can now see through to the roof. and, so, the next storm, the wind could go up and lift the roof possibly. it looks horrible. it is scary as heck. >> reporter: county officials say they want the house gone too, but need bank of america to approve the demolition because the bank is foreclose. enter red tape that no one seem to be able to cut through. >> these things take weeks or months they tell me. is that acceptable? is that an acceptable answer to you? >> when we are in imminent danger? absolutely not. >> reporter: no one from the bank has been out to see this. so, i sent them a photo. i also took my photos to the code enforcement director. >> you said when it becomes a safety hazard, you might be

bulldoze it. does it look like it is getting to that point? >> based on what i see in the photographs i could not make the determination. >> reporter: i'm no expert, but it is clear some experts need to get out here before the next storm does. >> we are continuing to work the case. attempting to get communication with the bank on who is the responsible party for the mortgage. >> reporter: after taking a look at the photo of my house, would order an inspection of the house immediately. >> why can't the bank just go ahead and agree. say county, take care of this. take it down. >> reporter: bank of america, i think they want to, but they say they are the servicer of this loan. they actually have a sub servicer. and that has to sign off on of all this too. there are too many decision makers. the clock is ticking. >> the next storm, things start flying off and you have people

>> walt disney world is taking new steps to crack down on stolen and shared park tickets and it is requiring children between the ages of 3 and 9 to scan their adults and older children have had their fingers scanned for years. younger children's tickets, well, they were more easily transferable or easier to steal or share. parents who are not comfortable having their child's finger scanned can use their own. it is the latest jaw dropping megaproject from dubai. a tropical rain forest inside a skyscraper hotel. more than 75,000 square feet
