afternoon. a deadly accident on interstate 4 that's causing big traffic problems for you this afternoon. let's send it to paul in eagle 8 hd. he has the latest, paul? >> reporter: good news, i can tell you at least two of the eastbound lanes of i-4 have been opened. now, where this accident is, let me set the stage for you, it's between dr. martin luther king jr. boulevard and the 301 exit. almost to the fairgrounds. and if i push in, it involves investigators are scouring over trying to figure out what happened. and if i move the camera up this way, and this white semi- truck. the front right side of the semi-truck is bashed up. the two must have collided at some point. but right now, it's a fatal accident. so there is an investigation ongoing. two lanes of the road are open. but it's very a very slow go through out of downtown, really slow as they investigate

thank you for the update. a young bradenton girl was attacked and robbed on the way to the bus stop. >> reporter: good afternoon, the 16-year-old didn't want to reveal her identity. she still is really rattled by this scary experience. shortly after 6:00 this morning, the girl was walking to her bus stop when a strae grabbed her backpack. >> he grabbed my backpack, he tackled me to clothes off. i was afraid i was going to die. >> reporter: as a car passed by, the man got up, took her phone and ran off. the girl's going to be okay. officials want to find this mysterious attacker. the manatee county sheriff's office plans to have deputies near the bus stop for the week. if you have information, call crime stoppers, john rogers, news channel 8. a man helped tie through

wearing his clothes and driving his car. we're told the suspects stole items from unlocked vehicles in lake land. they were later caught on camera using a victim's credit card at a gas station. investigators posted these photos on facebook and one of the victims saw the post and realized it was his stuff they were wearing. today a judge denied wont for devonte jefferson and sanders. they're still looking for andrew martin. protesters gathered downtown tampa hoping to keep a drug from being banned. the protesters are fans of the drug known as kretum. more than 18,000 people have signed a petition to keep it legal. now your first at 4:00

showers and storms around this afternoon. you can see the view from veterans ford. you can see all ready beginning at this location. temperatures have dropped back to 81 degrees so far. and as you take a look at the radar, across really the entire state, it looks fairly active. especially over toward the east coast, notice this counterclockwise rotation. area of low pressure to the north and east of us. moving up the east coast of florida. it's brought up rain chances, especially for the eastern half of florida. and for parts of our well. you can see extra rain today. not everyone has seen the rain. but we've seen the scattered showers and storms. you can see some of these even through our northern spots. you can see some lightning coming down just south of inverness, spotty showers in hernando county. shady hills dealing with some rain. some scattered showers over toward the brooksville dade city area. inland spots, pretty spotty at this point, frost proof dealing with rain right now.

it's tough to get your teenagers to do a lot of things let alone save money and earn money. but it can be done. today 8 on your side has the answers. joining me now is john wax from waller and wax advisor, and raymond james, thanks for being here. i have a 15-year-old. this is important for me. we need to teach them. we're getting closer to the driving age and all those things you need money for. so you said goal setting is really key. >> you want to set a al you want to purchase, but also, it's the purpose for this, but it's also a time frame. if you don't set a time frame, they might just save a little bit of money and then think they did something good and that's it. there needs to be a sense of urgency, some goal set. some purpose for putting the money away. >> earning money once isn't going to cut it. >> because we're talking about kids that can hold down a job,

can do that. but also getting a job or helping out the neighbors, do some yard work. some babysitting. something of that sort. and then of course, you can encourage kids with some kind of an earnings for good grades, which we want them to have good grades. >> that helps with college costs. we like that. you said keep a spending diary. i'm wondering about a bank account. should they have their own bank account? >> it's great to have a bank account to learn about banking and see how it works, keep the but also keep track of the inflow and outflow. if they set this goal and use the money for something else, a spontaneous purchase, it sets back that goal. you can talk about maybe you're going to need to work more or spend less. it's all about helping them understand the right balance of spending and saving. >> as we know, teenagers and adults sometimes like to impulse buy. if you have a minor set back, you might need to readjust goals or time frames.

well. we're calling for a 50% chance of storms. there's deeper moisture around. then we'll hold steady around 40% as we head into the coming weekend. in the tropics, we're tracking a few areas right now. we have tropical storm ian out in the central atlantic. and we also have invest 93, we've been watching this earlier today it had a 0% chance of development. but the nation hurricane center as of this afternoon left that to 48% as it moves north up the east coast of off the northeast coast of florida and also heavier showers and storms to the north and east as well. off the coast of africa, watching another area with a 50% chance of development over the next five days. so here's a look at ian, again, tropical storm ian, not going to cause a problem for us in the u.s. as it stays in the open ocean, a track that we like to see. for us now, invest 93 l brought in deeper moisture. you can see heavier showers and storms especially on the east

activity has been scattered throughout the day so far. you can see heavier pockets of rain. lightning near sugar mill woods. down through brook ridge, shady hills tracking isolated down pours. rain wrapping up over toward wesley chapel. light rain lingering there now. spotty showers from bartow to rolling hills. then as you head toward dundee, we're tracking down pours as well. temperatures dependant on if you've seen like in zephyr hills. 88 in bradenton. there's the tropical wave we're watching off to the north and east of us. for us this evening, the showers and storms continue. then wrapping up into the over night hours. when you wake up tomorrow morning, we'll have an on shower flow, that means we could see rain for your wednesday morning commute. especially if you live closer toward the coast. by your lunch hour, it starts to spread more inland, and we'll see scattered activity

the car. this is following a case involving troy whitaker. a hillsborough county firefighter who's been placed on leave. on friday he apparently left his 23-month-old son lawson inside of a car around 8:00 in the morning and didn't realize he was there until eight hours later. psychologists say there's many factors that can come into play when something like this happens. >> stress really can impact your memory, your attention, your concentration, your mood. so many things stress levels. >> reporter: substance abuse might be a factor in this case. what substance might have been involved here. and what investigators will have to look into as they consider whether or not to move forward with this case, coming up in the next hour. a man who survived a pulse nightclub shooting in orlando died at a party sunday morning. deputies found christopher lying in the backyard unconscious at a home on garden lake circle in the keystone

his body showed no sign of violence. it's unclear what caused his death. he told orlando tv crews in june the flying bullets at the pulse nightclub narrowly missed him. next week the city of orlando will install a fence around the pulse nightclub. local residents will contribute art work to that fence. currently there's a barrier around the club scene. , but the new fence will secure a smaller area. this friday the orange county regional history center will ute items that have been left at the scene and place them in storage. deputies are hoping to catch a team of car burglars. four people broke into cars over night at the palms on parker point. this video isn't great. but you can see burglars there. and the car they drove away in. believed to be possibly a dark colored honda or toyota. if anything looks familiar, you're asked to call pasco deputies. and pasco deputies are also looking for the people who broke into several boats which

bailey's bluff road. four people stole items from the boats. including flares, tackle boxes, and a fire extinguisher, this happened a little more than a week ago. we're getting a look at the surveillance video. if you can help, call pasco deputies. and we're learning more about a fire at a popular south tampa restaurant. investigators say the fire at bella's italian cafe on south howard avenue started in the vent system for the pizza oven. the night and was under control by 11:20. a seminole county police dog named amber was honored at this year's missing children's ceremony in tallahassee for locating and saving a special need's child. >> it's one example of how search dogs can save lives and the reason why more k9s are helping police. >> reporter: when jimmy rice was murdered in 1995 after

pure bar. great to have you with us. it's very simple. you just need to stretch. >> exactly. when you do your intense work outs, whatever cardio work out you choose, stretch after to elongate, lean out the muscles and release tension. >> a lot of people, when they get ready to start a work out programmings you say it's important to start by stretching first. they want to jump in like i'm ready to work out and then they hurt themselves. >> yeah, you want to warm up your body to prevent injury. it's stretch, warm up and also a cool down. those two stretching aspects. and a lot of work out classes around the tampa bay area have that quick warm up and then a cool down segment that helps prepare your body so it's not getting injured. >> talk to people how important it is. if you don't have time to work out. if that's your excuse, just stretching can make you feel 100 times better. >> do it in the convenience of your home. if you have a foam roller or bands. >> which is amazing by the way.

as we head into next week, we'll see a dry pocket roll through. at 9:00 p.m., about 80 degrees. any rain around should generally be wrapping up, at midnight, mostly dry, partly cloudy skies, warm, in up ther 70s, starting off tomorrow, mid 70s to begin with, then we'll top out in the upper 80s by the afternoon hours. so temperatures pretty close to average for this time of the year. at this point, we're still seeing some scattered showers and storms on the radar. you can see some of our inland spots. polk county tracking a line of showers and storms extending from just south of the davenport area as you head over towards bartow, just west of fort meade. tracking lightning strikes within those storms and tracking pockets of heavy rain west of the brooksville area. bushnell. at connorton and land o lakes. no rain at this location just yet. we may still see a few showers

there's that tropical wave to the north and east. for us, most of the rain will come to an end as we head into the late evening hours. the east coast of florida, up toward jacksonville. they're seeing strong and gusty winds due to that wave and seeing heavier rainfall. we haven't been effected as much today, we're on the dryer side. as we head into tomorrow morning, a few showers possible to start the day due to an on shore flow. by your lunch hour, showers and storms spread more inland. then we see scattered activity through the aften evening hours. thursday morning, a couple showers possibly. generally i think we're looking at afternoon rain chances for thursday. and rain chances start to drop back a bit as well. a little more seasonable. it feel like typical summertime weather with a 40% chance of rain. here's a look at the area of low pressure moving up the east coast of florida. you can see a little bit of the counterclockwise rotation. that spin on the visible satellite imagery, and there's a few areas in the tropics that we're watching. tropical storm ian is going to stay out at sea.
