search is on to find his killer. >> good evening. >> and thank you for joining us tonight. significant new developments tonight on the massive sink hole that swallowed millions of gallons of radioactive water. it was already about 45 feet across on thursday. but then on the right side of the screen, you can see video today showing that hole appears to be getting bigger. the walls are cracking. the mosaic assuring us, in their opinion, the sink hole shows no sign of growing. the company issued an apology this morning for that crater cover-up and we're finally getting attention from the florida department of correction. our tampa news center has the latest on this. we have been trying to get information from the d. e. p. since thursday, in fact, having to chase them down a little

>> reporter: a community in shock for the brutal murder of dominic demondayo. >> around here at night, you drop a pin, you can hear it a mile away. there's nothing. >> reporter: a neighbor called police to check on him after not hearing from him. on monday afternoon, investigators found the 95-year- old's body in his home on wellington drive. >> they found the gentleman deceased and the kitchen -- on the kitchen floor. it was a violent death. >> reporter: the investigators won't say how it happened. >> we don't want to put anything out there until we possibly find suspects to interview. >> reporter: the neighbors tell news channel 8 he had people in and out of his home recently thing work. >> the driveway and they inside painting and all of that stuff, you know. >> we believe recently possibly online he has contacted some people and they have started showing up to his house. we had heard through some people they may have been doing

>> and he was doing bad. my stuff, my son, he hurt my wife and i put him in jail four years ago. >> reporter: the fbi interviewed his father back then. two u.s. officials say they got a tip that his father was calling his son a terrorist, but they claim that he ended up down playing that concern calling it a misunderstanding. and we do have some good news tonight. one of the police officers injured in the shoot-out with the bombing suspect is back home. the officer peter hammer was forehead. he arrived at his home to a stream of red, white and blue balloons and american flags in his front yard greeting him. he also spoke about what the support means to he and his family. >> and i got shot in the head. i'm glad to be alive and glad to be home. i spoke to the president, the director of the fbi, and everybody's concern is overwhelming to me. >> the officer who was first on the scene took a direct hit to

charging him in the bombings that injured 29 people. dozens of people in charlotte, north carolina are still protesting tonight the fatal police shooting of an african-american man. many chanting and holding signs, some even throwing objects at police. there is a disagreement about whether the victim had a gun on him or not. it is all in response to a shooting that happened at an apartment complex earlier today when the police were searching for a person with an outstanding warrant when officers spotted the man get out of the car with the weapon. the officials say that he posed imminent deadly threat to the officers which resulted in the officers opening fire. the man who has not been identified yet was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. it is a similar situation in oklahoma protesting the death of a 40-year-old man at the hands of the tulsa police. it shows him walking with his hands in the air, and then

ground. the federal, state and local authorities are investigating that shooting. lakeland police are looking for a couple of barefoot, shirtless crooks caught on camera stealing money meant for charity. they broke into the real estate services offices in lakeland saturday. they stole about $5,000 worth of computers and electronics plus $1,000 meant for a local charity. look closely. if you recognize either of these two men, contact lakeland p.d. the man deputies considered armed and dangerous for blowing up his own home has turned himself over to authorities. he was trying to make butane hash oil and it is also known as marijuana wax two dogs were killed inside the home in the blast and a 1-year-old also inside the home was able to escape. it was a scary ordeal for passengers on board an american airlines plane from phoenix to tampa last night when their plane had a problem with some

lose weight, but according to a new study, it may be doing just the opposite. this one is being published and it says dieter whose wear fitness tracker lost less weight, not more weight, than those who didn't use any technology at all while dieting, and that is the opposite of what the researchers were expecting to find. >> it is possible that people started to rely on these technologies, these wearable technologies a little bit more than they should expense of paying better attention to their diet and physical activity. the researchers followed hundreds of dieters considered to be overweight or obese over two years, and by the end the group wearing the trackers lost 7.7 pounds on average. those without the trackers lost 13 pounds! it is a big difference. so what do you think? do you use these device ? do the devices hurt or help you? you can share your thoughts on our facebook page.

a nice shot from clearwater. this is actually looking to the east an not towards sunset a nice shot here tonight. lots of blue sky there and obviously lots of color, even looking in the opposite direction. at 7:00 a.m., 77 degrees. at noon, the temperatures heating up. 89 degrees at 4:00 p.m. you can't rule out the slight possibility of seeing a morning shower. probably not as many as we saw today. we have had a light westerly flow in place, so we did see morning showers, darker clouds earlier before the no today. 82 degrees in tampa. the dew point is 75 degrees. yes, the humidity is not letting us down. it is quite high. if you're saying it is hot, yes, and we still expect it to be that way this time of year. it is really october we start to see changes, especially the second half of october. the temperatures are mostly upper 70s. st. pete, 82. dade city, 78. and lots of dry air aloft to our north.

southern georgia, alabama, all the way up into the carolinas. this dry air will slowly sink to the south. this is not surface drier air. but it does provide some slightly drier atmospheric conditions which limits the amount of precipitation high above in the atmosphere. so we just don't see as much rain. you can see the effect it has had in the southeast a few break-out showers, but not as much as yesterday. kind of a drier trend. so the ryan chances -- ra normal. we developed lisa today. the "l." name on the list popped up. turning northwest and eventually off to the northeast. it still has the potential of becoming a category two hurricane. you can see where we are in the beer and florida. tropical storm lisa probably won't be in the best environment long term for strengthening. that's why the hurricane center said it may not make it. again, a very long way away.

tropics. that play as part in lessening the strength and the guilty of tropical system -- development of a tropical storm. 12 named storms so far. four of those, alex, early, gaston and hermine and karl likely becomes the fifth hurricane later this week. and typically this time of year we expect development as we get closer to home as the waters remain in the caribbean and the gulf. it gets a little os where we live as opposed to off the coast of africa later in the season. a slight chance of a morning shower. in the afternoon, isolated showers. you see a surface front. that will fizzle out as it gets closer to us. the drier air will have a small effect on our rain chances here, especially north and central areas. generally south of the bay, probably the chances are a little bit higher.
