involved shooting, where new protests are sparking tonight. >> and government scott gets grilled by news channel 8, his response to our tough questions regarding this massive mosaic sink hole. good evening. i'm jennifer leigh. >> i'm keith cate. thank you for joining us tonight. they're playing baseball in st. petersburg st. petersburg but for how much longer. the northeast little league is thousands of dollars in debt tonight and the clock is ticking. they say there's no crying in baseball, but try telling that leaguers who are feeling cheated out of $35,000 by a sports management company. news channel 8's peter bernard attended one of those little league games in st. petersburg tonight and joins us live with a story on this real life cash crunch on the families. what happened to all this money? >> reporter: the sports management company is called jevin and they're having an economic crisis of their own. their banking company has frozen its accounts and it's affecting the little league

two weeks into the fall baseball season and northeast little league is finding itself in a financial slump. a company called jevin is holding back payments collected from fees to the tune of almost $35,000. parents are outraged. >> i've spent many hours sweating in that concession stand, so it's upsetting to say the least. >> reporter: the lack of funds is league activity. >> we have almost 300 kids playing baseball in the fall and we owe thousands of dollars to local printers and t-shirt people and landscape people. we owe a lot of money. >> reporter: 8 on your side contacted the owner of jevin. dan patack tells me his credit card processor froze his account. >> we're trying to do somer to short time things and we discuss -- to do some short

board. >> reporter: do you buy his explanation? >> it doesn't really matter what his explanation is. the funds are not here and we have a league to run. >> reporter: parents are pitching in through a gofundme account. as for the missing cash, cops say they don't believe there is criminal wrongdoing. the owner of jevin insists there is no fraud going on and he said this all stems run on refunds at a youth football organization back in utah. however, he says he has no idea when he'll be able to come up with that cash. >> really is kind of a squeeze play on these family members. at $35,000 lost, how much has this gofundme account raised? >> reporter: the goal is $40,000. so far they've raised almost 6,000 and the good news there is that was just in one day. these parents are coming up to the plate. >> thanks, peter.

counselor is under arrest accused of sexually assaulting his clients. police tell us anthony conti inappropriately touched two patients during sessions and claimed it was part of their treatment. we're told there could also be more victims. anyone with information is asked to call lakeland police department. the shooting death of a tampa toddler may have been at the hands of her father. a search warrant obtained by news channel 8 shows detectives are searching for evidence to file aggrate witnesses at the scene told police 17-month-old amaya shoffy shot herself. a dcs investigation shows her father accidentally shot her while he was handling his gun. we'll let you know if and when charges are filed. breaking news, angry protests are spilling out into the streets of el cajon tonight after a california police officer shot and critically wounded a black man who may

tampa newsroom following the breaking details. >> the man's condition has not yet been released, but eyewitnesses heard as many as five gunshots. >> officers responded to a person acting erratically. >> reporter: the 911 call came in around 2 p.m. pacific time of a disturbance at the broadway village shopping center. witnesses describe what they thought was a mentally challenged black man creating some sort of chaos. when police arrived, that man would not do what asked. >> when they contacted him here, he failed to comply with the directives he was given. that resulted in an officer- involved shooting. >> reporter: many concerned citizens gathered to show their concern with a peaceful protest. >> we all matter. we all matter. >> reporter: but for one young man with autism the situation hit especially close to home. >> i said hey, that could be me or that could be one of my friends. >> police have not yet

penalties for installing the theft devices which means more time behind bars. it increases penalties on those found with stolen credit card information, also. >> before it just wasn't taken very seriously. it was sort of unknown as a crime, so there was a low penalty. so it was a high reward low risk crime to commit. so we enhanced the penalties and made it easier to build the case. >> the new law will also require gas station owners to take measures to protect their customers from skimmers. heavy rain is causing thousands of iowans to flee from what could be the worst flood in the state's left. more than 10,000 residents of cedar rapids were forced from their homes. the cedar river continues to steadily rise towards its projected crest of 23 feet. the national weather service extended flood warnings until this upcoming sunday. a new look tonight at the attempts to stop a raging wildfire in california in the santa cruz mountains. this is the race to save homes.

lutz 83, clearwater beach, palm harbor 76, 75 river view, 73 brandon, 74 dade city, low 70s, a lot of rain. one of our facebook folks said they had 4 inches in avon park. so the downpours really did occur. red tide still in place for the coastal areas, beaches from manatee and sarasota, medium high concentration we mentioned yesterday and john down there yesterday. siesta key, venice beach all having problems with the red tide. quite a bit of dry air aloft. that tends to stabilize the atmosphere a little bit, but we're still developing showers and thunderstorms in the gulf of mexico. you see those at this hour drifting off from west to east. that's where our morning rain chance comes from in this flow. usually when our flow is from

surface cold front to the north. that front will slowly push south and up our rain chance here in a couple days and bring a slight possibility of drier air to northern spots. there's the front there on the map. even some severe thunderstorm warnings are there. hurricane hunter aircraft went into 97l, an area of investigation in the tropics east of the islands, wind speed 41 miles per hour, just not the low level circulation you need to upgrade in to a tropical depressiont happening over five days, could happen tomorrow or the next day as well getting into the warm waters of the caribbean sea. a lot can happen including turning into a hurricane. we'll continue to watch the computer models. some turn it directly to the north, some a little farther west, something we'll continue to monitor, very much still hurricane season. in the morning a slight possibility of showers, maybe extra clouds, coastal areas.

we saw today the thunderstorms were very active in highlands county, polk county, hear, de soto county. thursday morning isolated showers, same story. here comes that front enhancing rain chances for thursday afternoon. behind that front that will slowly fizzle out across the central portion of the state, maybe slightly drier air folks north could potentially feel. in citrus or hernando county, maybe your chances are better of having our sensitivity is up to slightly drier air. if the dew points would drop to the upper 60s, we'd think it would be wintertime around here. >> can't wait. >> the life of the fish, try telling that to mr. limpet. he wanted back out. >> he wore glasses. he was a talking fish. >> i thought about that. >> starring don knotts.
