mysterious rescuer was around. >> and plus plus, creepy clowns freaking people out. where this nationwide trend has popped up in the bay area. >> good evening. >> thank you for joining us tonight. we're going to start with hurricane matthew. this massive storm is getting stronger by the minute. matthew is swirling right now just north of colombia. you can see here in this video it is churning up very, very large waves. an now with the latest on matthew's intensity and we have been waiting on this 11:00 update for a while. >> thank you. the update just came down and we now have a category five hurricane. matthew was just upgraded. the hurricane hundred dollarers did find wins strong enough to make it a hurricane. the max winds as it spins in the central caribbean. it has been since 2007 that we

nearly 10 years since we have seen this. so this is a very impressive storm. you can see looking at the satellite imagery the well defined eye in the center. it slowed down a bit moving to the west. the pressure, of course, continuing to drop as it strengthens. 941-millibars now. this is likely about the peak intensity, but it is going to stay a very strong hurricane as it heads towards jamaica as we head into the weekend and the start of next week. up this track does include parts of south florida, so south florida on high alert with this system. we're monitoring it. east of us, you know how these things shift and change. we'll have more coming up in your full forecast. now a category five. thank you. and now to some breaking news. we are getting reports of a suspicious substance that has been mailed to the mosaic

crossing drive. we just learned from a company spokesperson that the letter with that suspicious substance was delivered there and the fbi and hillsboro county sheriff's office is on scene and they are investigating. the timing is interesting. we have been reporting about that massive sink hole this opened up at the mosaic plant sending some 215 million gallons of contaminated water into the florida water system. our investigation revealed the d. e. notify the public, but the governor's office about the sink hole no word on what was in that letter, as far what is was written on the letter. we'll bring you updates as soon as we get them from overnight. a developing story in tampa. the police are investigating some sort of an incident at middleton high school. the detectives are notary leasing in i details, but a spokesperson tells us something happened between a student and

investigating. we'll be working to find out more information and postupdates on wfla.com. creepy clowns. nothing funny about this. these smokes have been seen at multiple schools and they're now trolling social media, seeing friends, trying to seek them out while making threats a the same time. the pasco county sheriff is concerned tabata creepy clowns. peter bernard live now to explain why this has him so concerned. peter? >> reporter: hi, there. keith. the students, parents and others are reporting these creepy clown sightings all around the county. they're showing up at schools, bus stops and in the woods. >> i'm scared myself, honestly. >> reporter: this young ridgewood high ninth grader showed me her facebook posts are filled with scary pictures of creepy clowns like these.

where they post screen shots of them -- basically the clown threatening them. >> reporter: her mother sent screen grabs sent by clowns. i will kill you tonight and i'm going to come to your house tonight are just a sample. >> some of them saying that they're going to die tonight and meet me at certain places. that is concerning. >> reporter: like this one that says meet at regency park or this boy is going to die. aened i am killing you with my black machete. >> i don't want them meeting anyone, and clowns, you don't know what they're capable of. >> and they're sick and tired of terroristic threats and now they have to deal with this creepy clown thing going on. >> reporter: the creepy clown phenomenon has worried the sheriff. >> we have seen it on social media. there are a lot of residents and citizens that are fed up. if one of these clowns come on my property, they're going to get shot. >> i was scared. >> reporter: at largo middle

watching before attaching that device. a clerk later found the skimmer and called police. the justice department is suing the owner of a lakeland mobile home park for discrimination. the owner and manager quoted higher prices to african- american families. they're also accused about lying whether units were available. we have reached out to management at the mobile home park for comment and we have not yet heard back. the police in el california released videotape of the deadly shooting of an unarmed black man. it showed him being approached by two officers. the police say when they asked him to show his hands, he grabbed something in his pocket, took an aggressive stance and pointed something at the officers like he had a gun. the police say releasing the video wasn't the best -- was in the best interest of community calm and peace. >> this is the action that

police-involved shootings. full disclosure to the public builds trust and it demonstrates respect. >> reporter: south florida that object he was pointing toward the officers turned out to be a vain pen. so far no charges have been filed. a polk county man has a near-death experience. he had a seizure behind the wheel and he lived to tell about it. ever since then he has been searching for the person who saved his liha now. the person got in touch with the family within the last hour. he is actually a lieutenant from the lakeland fire department. he says he is the one who ran to the scene and pulled that victim to safety. paul mueller joins us live from lakeland regional medical center with what the victim has to do next. the paramedics brought him here right after the accident. amazingly he didn't have a single scratch and all he wants to do is thank the person who saved his life.

>> nothing. >> none at all? >> none. >> he blacked out not remembering that he drifted off i-4 here in lakeland driving 800 yards through a fence, one of its posts piercing the windshield missing him by just inches. >> god was watching out for me and he put me in just the right position so that pole missed me. >> the jeep would then go airborne and land in this pond quickly filling up with water. then, all of a sudden, a stranger camom nowhere. >> you don't know how much this means to me for them to pull me out like that and save my life. >> land had an epileptic seizure on his way home from his sister's house. >> with epilepsy, you never have signs beforehand. >> he has had at least 40 seizures during his life but none behind the wheel. this time he and his sister realize how he put countless and others in danger. >> if i hurt me, it is one thing.

. right now we are still a category five as of the 11:00 p.m. advisory. the well-defined eye and, again, hurricane hunters have been investigating the storm and they did find those winds making it a category five storm. max winds at 160 miles per hour. of course, a hurricane watch has been posted for jamaica as it is heading towards there a very dangerous storm at this point. it slowed dunn a bit moving to the west at seven miles per hour. we're expecting it to turn to the north.

big impact on jamaica as we head into early next week. we're still expecting that turn north and by the middle of next week, expecting it to weaken some as it moves over some of the higher terrain and eastern cuba, but it is still going to be a category two storm as it moves over the bahamas. notice the forecast cone now. it could still be a little bit west of the center of this. so south florida now in the cone. florida need to pay close attention to this storm. the track has continued to stay off to our east. you can see models now bringing it over jamaica and the bahamas, depending on how far west we see it depends on florida. as we head through this weekend and into early next week, i'll have a very good idea of where this is going. at this point the first category five storm since 2007

so very impressive storm right. there for us tomorrow morning, it is actually going to be a pretty pleasant filing morning. we're in the mid 70s to start with. in the afternoon hours we're back into the upper 80s. today, not bad. we had to dodge some of the rain around and it lasted from the morning hours into the evening. here is a view from clearwater a great sunset there. at this point just a couple of showers lingering on the radar. you can see the towards st. pete. some pockets of heavy showers around. these are wrapping up after midnight. still 80 degrees, though, in tampa. 72. so there is the front we're watching. some of our northern counties may actually see drier air, but most of us will see plenty of moisture. by the afternoon hours we'll bring in a 30% rain chance. sunday's rain chance will be greater. so a 40% chance of storms just
