i also discovered in the past year, there were 13 accidents within one mile and three at the intersection. so, why no enforceable school zone? >> since the school setback, the traffic coming to and from the school comes down the side street. there is not really activity in the front of the school. >> reporter: seven miles away, hudson avenue has a designated school zone, though, there are no schools on hudson avenue. and, there are other complaints. >> there you can't see the cars exiting the school. >> i see close calls every day. it's a bad road. >> reporter: so i brought the concerns to traffic management. >> we will measure the volumes of the road and see if a traffic signal could be warranted at this location. >> reporter: and in the meantime, they will reevaluate the need for an enforceable school zone. they will begin collecting data

and 8 on your side will stay on top of this and we will find out what they are willing to do to keep the children safe. now to the latest in the run to the 2016 presidential election. early voting starts an ex week here in florida. most bay area counties begin early voting on monday the 24th. but early voting starts in all of florida's 67 counties october 29 and last through november 5. florida is expected for hillary clinton and donald trump. thousands of floridians took advantage of an extended voter registration deadline. but getting them verified in time may now be in doubt. democrats hope the federal judge can force them not to cast provisional ballots. matt galka has the latest. >> reporter: yeah jen, you

the federal trifecta. but this time, election supervisors say it could have been bad news. >> reporter: they looked to get newly registered voters processed by sunday. the reason, they don't want provisional ballots to be cast. >> when you cast a provisional ballot, it is not counted unless th approves the ballot. which is a presumption, they should in the absence of proof that the voter is ineligible to vote. but you would obviously rather vote a regular ballot if you can. >> reporter: federal judge mark walker, the same judge who ruled in the democrat's favor in voter registration deadline and mismatching signature lawsuits over the past two weeks denied the motion. a spokesman for county election s&p visiers said that if the changes had been made, the results could have been chaotic.

away. newschannel8 has brought you amazing stories of survival with a lot of people struggling with heart issues. tonight, we will talk about transplants and the fact they are just not as rare as they used to be. as our own stacie schaible discovered, 30% of heart transplant recipients will need a second one in their lifetime. >> reporter: that's right jenn. one strong resilient teenager in palm harbor received her second one and she is only 16. when we first introduced maddy price, she was just 11 years old. and her best friend was her little dog named cocoa. >> i never had a puppy before. and he just loves to play. >> reporter: that's forward five years and look at maddy now. she is 16. she is driving. and, she is thriving. after just spending seven months in johns hopkins all children's hospital in saint petersburg. that's a long time for a teenager. >> it is different. because i'm 16.

hanging out with the football games on friday night. and, hanging out with friends on the weekends. but they just came to see me instead of me going to see them. >> reporter: maddy was born with congenital heart disease and had her first open heart surgery at just seven days old and her first heart transplant before her sixth birthday. >> this is one day after transplant which is pretty amazing. >> reporter: when we first met maddy in 2007. we knew her first transplant wouldn't last forever. >> it is day by y. medicines at this point. just to keep her stable. to keep her system so it is not compromised. >> reporter: her first heart lasted nearly ten years. seven years longer than doctors expected but then this march, just before her 16th birthday, she was put back on the transplant list. >> we were told wednesday and listed thursday. >> reporter: the dr. carane is

rejecting a new heartment so that is one of the reasons why patients who undergo a second heart transplant tend to struggle a little more than going in the first time. >> reporter: maddy admits it wasn't easy. >> at first, i was just very weak and i was just giving up because i didn't think anything bowl get better but i feel better than i did before the first heart. >> in what way? >> i just feel stronger and i can do a lot more. >> you look >> i do. >> reporter: maddy is now back home. and will return to her junior year in january. >> her prognosis is very good. because, she has overcome all of the initial hurdles. she really has to take good care of this heart. and, really, that is what it boils down to. >> reporter: d you know she will. what a special young lady. the 2016 heart walk, by the way, is just a few weeks away and we need your help raising

new port richey. we have it going pretty good here. the winds are relatively light there. here at freedom plaza and sun city center like the rest of hillsborough county today, thing haves been relatively quiet. it feels a little warmer in the afternoon because the dew point temperatures are elevated at the surface, but as i mentioned very dry conditions. in the southern part of sarasota county, 78 degrees. a pleasant cooler temperatures as venice is a little closer to the gulf of mexico. and gulf temperatures are dropping just a little bit more this time of the year. here in brandon, not a cloud in the sky. 83 degrees here with the northeast wind at 7 miles an hour. 43% relatively ty humidity. but, all of that sunshine is helping to lift the temperatures but with the drier air high above, some of that mixes down to the surface. we are seeing lower dew points as a result of that. that's the view at hula bay.

result of the cold front coming through. we have been talking about this cold front so much because it is great to advertise really. it is the first real cold front of the season that is going to have a great impact in terms of temperature and also humidity. so the high on saturday, 78 degrees. 79 degrees on sunday. 81 on monday. by tuesday, we will start to return as high pressure shifts a bit to the east. this is a fairly classic story when high pressure moves off to the east, we get back into the 8:00 a.m., 70 degrees. and then, the cold front will approach at 4:00 p.m. there. later in the afternoon. and that lad few clouds potentially. but we are not expecting much in the way of precipitation along the bound ray the next couple of days. all the precipitation will likely be to our south. moisture levels tend to be a little bit higher there. so let's get right to our eight- day forecast, we can see what is going on there. and you can see with our temperature, 84 degrees for a high. that is for friday. with just a slight possibility of showers. some added clouds that

was driving toward publix. >> as the pickup truck driver noticed the person and was able to hit the brakes and caused the person to fall from the pickup. >> reporter: the man tried to attack a publix employee. when that failed, he attacked that worker and took off running south. in the meantime, the injured masseuse made her way to a nearby shell station. she was taken to sarasota memorial for treatment. this morning while the search continued, nearby schools were briefly placed on lock down. th any danger that we felt like this was the safest way to do it than to have notifying parents early in the day or earlier in the morning and having students out and about. >> reporter: police believe he may have fled the area. and they are working with other nearby agencies to find this dangerous man. the woman was listed in critical condition. they are hoping she will recover. if you know anything about the case, contact venice police. josh? >> john rogers live for us in venice. thanks john.
