and tried to carjack a trying to get away. >> reporter: this criminal is a very violent man. just before 8:00 wednesday night, he attacked a woman who worked at the 88 spa off of tamiami trail in venice. then, the bold attacker hopped into the back of a pickup driving toward publix. >> as the pickup truck driver noticed the person was able to hit the brakes and caused the person to fall from the pickup. >> reporter: in the lot, the man tried employee. when that failed, he attacked that worker and took off running south. in the meantime, the injured masseuse made her way to a nearby shell station. she was taken to sarasota memorial for treatment. this morning while the search continued nearby schools were briefly placed on lock down. >> the children were never in any danger. we felt like this was the safest way to do it rather than notice firefighter parents earlier in the morning and have the student out and about.

are working with nearby agencies to find this dangerous man. in venice, john rogers, newschannel8. tonight, we are hearing the 911 calls from the terrifying takedown in bartow where an inmate took an officer hostage. melanie michael is asking tough questions about how it happened. >> there were four inmates that came running up to me on work detail. they said one of the other inmates kidnapped the officer and they left in a truck. they are poig detail one wild scene where trustees were doing work detail in the park when their fellow inmate david ross grabbed a steak knife from a park restroom and took the officer hostage in the city truck. >> i'm driving around the block and i don't see them anywhere. >> reporter: a lot of questions remain in the case. and 8 on your side went looking for answers. we wanted to know why

timely manner. they mailed out replacement ballots last week. a sarasota woman complained to the the state that residents of puerto rico are coming to florida o register to vote in the november election. now, that would constitute election fraud. all because residents of puerto rico are not allowed to vote in general elections. two complaints were filed two groups alleging they bring puerto back to vote in the elections. >> we have paid our taxes. we educated our children. and i don't feel it is fair that someone will come from my own island and cancel my vote. that is what they are doing. >> the division of elections not only deep sixed elizabeth's complaint, it told senior investigative reporter steve andrews that no complaint against mi familia existed. florida democrats scored a

with the front moves through throughout the day, temperatures will get progressively cooler. 83 degrees now at tampa international airport. the dew point, 61 degrees. that is a lovely number. it just means drier air for us. in saint petersburg, the dew points 67 degrees which is still okay. 81 degrees, the current temperature, should be a beautiful evening in the downtown area. both downtownsful clearwater, too. water vapor imagery. dry air high above in the atmosphere. a 50% chance not going to threaten florida. but the buy air is helping to stabilize the atmosphere and providing drier air, particularly in inland spots. most of the shower activity down across south florida. that is where the deeper moisture is located. here is the system we are talking about. a 50% chance of possible development. most of the u.s., most of the computer models predict that.
