thank you. things are shaping up really nicely. what a week we have had. gorgeous weather. dry weather as well. there is no change in that today. here is a view out at st. pete beach. 83 degrees. no rain at this location. great day to be out on the beach as well with our temperatures topping out back in the mid 80s. we're sitting at 83. 82 at plant city. coming in at and 81 currently in clearwater. temperatures are warm. winds are still coming in out of the northeast. we have had this flow all week long and it has definitely been breezy at times, especially if you live closer toward the coast. a sustained wind at 20 miles per hour at st. pete. when you factor in the gust, they're even above 25 miles per hour at times. it has been breezy again this afternoon. that trend is going to continue into the weekend. overnight tonight it stays very mild. temperatures will drop back to around 70 with a partly cloudy

notice when you wake up tomorrow, temperature also be in the upper 60s to low 70s again, and the chances of rain, well, pretty much out of the forecast all the way through this weekend and halloween. great news for trick-or- treaters. we'll have a full look at your weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. a community is grieving now following a heartbreaking crash in polk county. two -- teenagers, a brother and sister dried -- died on their way to high school this jorge and 15-year-old melanie lara. we got a view of the scene on highway 27. the deputies tell us as they turned on to 27 they were struck by a chevy silverado. both teenagers were killed. the three men and the truck are expected to survive. right now new evidence that the florida highway patrol tells us, supports their theory that speed was likely the culprit. and it is snap chat video that

causing the deadly crash of driving more than 115 miles per hour just minutes before impact. here is news channel 8's rod carterrer. >> reporter: good evening. the two women, the sole survivors of the car accident that claimed the lives are still recovering here tonight at tampa general hospital. meanwhile, we did get some new video into the news room that shows the driver that caused that accident was apparently going at speeds of up to 115 chat and it was taken by the driver's girlfriend. both the girlfriend and the driver died in that accident. i spoke to a relative, a spokesperson for the family here at tampa general hospital, and she tells us that she's very upset. she cried initially when she saw that video, but now her main focus is healing for everyone involved. >> i just don't want people to fight over it. i don't want people to be avenging each other. >> reporter: we still don't

we definitely know it is involved speeding and highway patrol troopers telling us that this video certainly does support that. at tampa general hospital, news channel 8. en alarming new statistics now. the number of traffic deaths spiking in florida and distracted driving is to blame. but as news channel 8 shows us, it is not just drivers texting. yes, but -- also popular apps. nationwide traffic deaths are already up by 10% this year and florida is amok the highest on the -- among the highest on the list with a 9% jump. insurance officials say when traffic slows down due to congestion, and we have plenty of that here in the tampa bay area, drivers tend to pick up their phones. the top five apps used by drivers are google maps, pokey mon go, android messaging, facebook and youtube.

we're driving longer distances because gas prices are lower and the areas with younger or older drivers are seeing more crashes. plus, drug use, including prescription drugs are getting some of the blame. traffic fatalities were declining for years but started climbing again last year. in 2015, there were more than 10,000 accidents atrick tributed -- attributed to distracting driving here in the tampa bay area. >> reporter: and we do have -- and we do have some breaking news, but first we're going to tell you about your vote 2016. we're going to have to get back to this o'hare airport unless our producer cans get some information on it immediately. >> there we go. >> there we go. thank you. this is a live look now at o'hare airport, and that is where a plane caught fire just before take-off. deplane. there is no word now on injuries. we will keep you updated as we get more information. jo and now on to politics. a week-long extension of voter registration in flay nay resulted in more than 100,000 new applications, and today began with about 21,000 of those applications still unverified. the capital bureau cold front has more on the -- correspondent has more on the story. >> reporter: after an emergency hearing, a federal judge said today he is satisfy id the state is doing everything it can to verify the voter applications. those applications were submitted after the judge extended the deadline by a week. 21,000 of the new applications are still pending. 15,000 of those have been sent back to the states' -- state's election supervisors because they're missing information and many may never be verified. the lure for the state's supervisor -- the lawyer for the state's supervisor of election. >> the supervisor will contact

we're talking a fair. all kinds of livestock. right now they're teaching the students how to properly present your goat. and not only that, not presentation, but grooming, and that is what is happening here now giving the students a list about how to properly take care of your goat. these students have been putting in a lot of time and a lot of hard work raising their animals, and this is the spot where they will get the chance to show off. there are so many things the smell of the fair. we're already smelling it out there now. something new this year, inside the exhibition hall, there's actually a butterfly garden. you can walk through and experience that firsthand. arts and crafts. so much going on here at the greater county fair. the gates open up at 5:00 p.m. and we'll have updates throughout the afternoon as we are enjoying the beautiful weather out at the fair, guys. >> i was thinking, the goats are nice, but i want to hear

a high school is receiving national acclaim for a film about cyber bullying. >> it just earned an award from the all american film festival. as we show you, you can help the filmmakers earn thousands of dollars for their school. eight in 10 teenagers say they have been cyber bullied or know someone who has the students at nature coast technical high school in brooksville are raising awareness of the problem and they want parents to pay attention. >> all of those people and no one thought to help me? >> reporter: in the short film words unspoken, a teenager is humiliated by a video shot without her permission and posted online. while it is not based on any one person's story, these high school students say it is representative of what they see

this is in the a joke. it is going on like all over. it could be going on right new as i'm speaking. >> reporter: the technical students had 10 weeks to prepare for competition but only 48 hours to produce their film. and they did it all in new york city. they filmed in central park, queens, and even on top of a building. while it is told through the teenager star's vies, the role of the mother is vital to the story. is your son, you have to pay attention and you're the one guiding them. >> a lot of times you don't really think about the parent. it probably hurt them a lot to lose their kid. >> more than 30 teens from across the country participated in the competition. nature coast received the heart award for the most heart felt story that is a huge validation for this crew. >> the message that i think we're getting a i cross that we told i think is so important.
