good evening. i'm jennifer leigh. >> i'm josh benson. a veteran trying to do a good deed gets ambushed by a crook trying to get away from police after a chase. >> to top things of basketball player. we are joined live from largo where the suspect crashed. >> reporter: good evening. this suspect shaquille o'neal crashed here at belcher road and ulmerton road. when a good samaritan in a wheelchair tried to help him he ended up rolling off.

suspect police were searching for. shaquille o'neal crashed following a chase. a veteran offered him a wheelchair. >> i saw a guy helping another guy out of a car. his leg was broken or something. he fell down in the street. i let him sit on my chair so he could drive up to the and not be laying in the street. next thing i know i'm chasing my chair down the street. >> reporter: instead he tried to roll away to escape. >> you started running after him the best you could. >> trying. i could not catch him. >> reporter: largo police tried to pull him over near east bay drive. he fled and sideswiped to vehicles, one being a school bus. he continued south on belcher road where he hit two more

seen everything. >> reporter: nina shot this video. >> i remember seeing trucks everywhere and cars and police everywhere. >> reporter: one person was critically injured. an officer finally caught up with clements rolling down the street two blocks away. >> no good deed goes unpunished. >> reporter: now drew ended up getting his chair back. he says sadly this incident, he no long this incident that's happened to him. >> yeah, he is trying to do something nice and that happens. what about clements? is he still in jail? >> reporter: he is. he is facing a slew of charges. some include leaving the scene of the accident with injury. he is in jail with no bond. >> thank you very much.

tailed the driver until he was arrested. ricky mendez admits he didn't see a car in his blind spot. he rolled his window down half way to apologize to the other driver. turns out sorry one enough. >> passenger of the vehicle jumped out and cold clocked me in the nose. >> the than then got back in the car and the driver took automaker mendez followed the car and called 9-1-1. several mendez says punched him ended up in handcuffs. [ no audio ] was taken to a nearby hospital and rushed into surgery. driver of the bus is expected to be okay. no word if there were any children on the bus. marco rubio is on a five county campaign swing.

bring friends and family with them. jeff patterson is joining us live in tampa from an early voting location. >> reporter: good afternoon. marco rubio certainly urging his party faithful to get out and vote. he is concerned about maintaining a republican majority in the u.s. senate. while he is urging his party favoriteful to vote a straight republican ticket he is maintaining distance between himself and nominee donald trump. as donald trump has campaigned in florida and hillary clinton has done the same, some of their campaign stops across the country have been focused on moving the balance of power the house and senate. the theory is if it is an overall majority at the top of the ticket the house and the senate could follow. >> we can't hold the majority if we lose florida. >> reporter: in hillsborough county marco rubio urged a small but faithful crowd of supporters to get out the vote.

cross bay ferry 15 in way to bridge visiting downtown st trip. would it work for your rush hour commute? >> reporter: three words that strike fear in the hearts of bay area commuters howard frankland bridge. the ferry is now an alternative to commuting across the bridge. but would it save you time and who does it benefit? i compared to two commutes. her's what -- here's what i discovered. i timed the commute from downtown tampa. i included parking at the

echecked the stopwatch again. during anything journey i discovered a few things. as the relaxing ride and you can bring your bike to help reduce your commute to the office. i also had an epiphany. i don't have to deal with distracted drivers. my only distraction was this rainbow that appeared. i arrived in st. pete wind blown 55 minutes. >> it isme ferry ride commute with driving. i'm starting at channel 8. i have my stopwatch. the drive across the howard frankland bridge was good which is typical in the morning and to the ferry parking. the added time to park just over 33 minutes. if driving to st. pete is quicker who commuter would this benefit? >> if you work in tampa and live in st. pete it is a way of getting to work in 50 minutes

accidents on the bridge. >> reporter: i checked my traffic data yet at 7:15 a.m. heading to tampa took 40 minutes on the interstate with zero crashes. comparing basic commutes downtown st. pete to downtown tampa driving was a bit longer than the ferry. so i found the ferry could be a viable alternate commute for those living in downtown st. pete and working in things like walking to your office. that will increase your ferry commute. it is $10 each way but parking on the st. pete side is free through the six-month trial period. to an 8 on your side consumer alert. samsung is recalling three million top-low washing machines because they can hurt

it is friday night. that means football friday. tonight the game of the week features jesuit tigers taking on the tampa tiger crusaders. this matchup tends to be one- sided. am i right? >> reporter: you've got that right. it definitely has been one- sided. for the tampa catholic crusaders it is all about perspective . they are on a five game winn home. they are giving up 26 points a game and that's when they run into the buzz saw called the jesuit tigers. tigers are undefeated. they are scoring 50 points a game. josh, i got to tell you, it is going to come down to the friday night blitz game of the week. we'll have highlights at 11:00. >> thank you very much. first friday night blitz starts tonight at 11:15.

not much rain around here lately. we don't expect a lot of rain in the month of november. for the year we are well ahead. we have a surplus of ten inches of rain. if you are wondering where the rain is november isn't a typically rainy month. there is a few scattered showers. light stuff on the map. satellite and radar picking up a few of th the south. a few light showers across the northern sections of polk county all drifting in that southerly fashion here at the moment. our changes ahead a cold front moved through late in the day today with breezy conditions building in behind the front. which is typical. once the front pass -- passes through on saturday temperatures dropping well believe seasonal temperature. the cold air will be trapped much further to the north of us. temperatures closer to our

60s. that real dry air really stays just to our north. here's a view from you can see temperature 75 degrees. we have an on shore flow from the northwest at 14 miles per hour. brandon has traffic backed up along 60 for those of you who travel. probably a fairly typical scene. 78 sun city beautiful shot. very nice view of the gulf of mexico. saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday we had hoped for a bigger temperature and dew point drop. as you can see here we'll still stay in the not too bad category. a respit from the higher dew points. i think the range of temperatures we are in still will be fairly comfortable.

66 degrees. a small chance of seeing a shower this evening and overnight as the front passes south. for the afternoon 81 degrees. we talked about the breeze in the forecast area tomorrow. temperatures mostly upper 70s closer to the beaches. temperatures a bit warmer inland. mostly in 80s. you can see bartow 83. 78 venice. model picking up on the possibility of light showers. isolated showers really. one may pass over your home. see a shower. they are not wide-spread. in terms of measurable rain, just not that much. breezy conditions. you can see a northeasterly flow saturday afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. fairly nice weather overall. a few clouds on sunday. a nice weekend ahead. temperatures will feel cooler largely because the humidity is down a couple degrees on the dew point. saturday and sunday temperatures low 80s. clocks go back this weekend.

the driver behind the wheel of the school bus involved in in a deadly accident in maryland should not have been driving in the first place. according to the maryland motor vehicle administration the than had his commercial license suspended two months ago because he failed to from video an updated physical. tuesday morning's accident killed six people including the school bus driver and mta bus driver. a woman suffering save bade police officer. that woman's husband and daughter were rushing her to the hospital. their high speed caught the attention of the officer. the husband jumped out yelling for help. the deputy gave her cpr until an ambulance arrived. >> looks like she'll make a quick recovery because of the quick way you administered cpr.

tonight. >> reporter: that's right. he is here at lakeland regional with a long recovery ahead of him. tonight finally two families are getting some sort of closure. >> i don't know if i can go on. >> reporter: five days after the deadly crash it is still difficult for jessica's mother to talk about it. >> now his two kids she left behind have to grow up without her. >> reporter: early saturday morng state road 60 near lake wales. she went over to median and flagged down a deputy for help. a driver plowed into the median killing jessica and seriously injuring the deputy. a crimestoppers tip lead deputies to this truck and 71- year-old charlie lewis. today a judge set his bond. >> you may not possess or consume any alcohol.
