out accounts. >> then while he played football a burglar broke into a buc's home, who he came face to face with inside. >> and a burglar caught on camera again. good evening. i'm jennifer leigh. >> i'm keith cate. thanks for joining us tonight. we begin with an 8 on your side alert. it is a new twist on an old scam, a woman targeting elderly victims into giving up their debit cards. the scheme relies on confusion over the new chip cards trusting seniors. it starts with a phone call from someone pretending to be from your bank. here's where it gets scary. the woman in the video actually showed up at three victims' homes to collect their debit cards. peter bernard is joining us live on the night beat from largo. it may be hard to believe here, peter, but many people are falling for this. >> reporter: keith, they are. unfortunately they're trying to do the right thing and they're getting burned in the process.

machine and clean you out. according to deputies, this woman just wrapped up a wal- mart shopping trip using somebody else's debit card. victims tell us it's hard to catch. >> about wiped out my checking account. >> reporter: that's what happened to this polk county woman. >> $4,100 at the credit union. i almost fainted. >> reporter: last october she fell victim to a similar scam where the crooks told her to put her chip enabled debit card under the phone an >> she sounded really businesslike calling from mid- florida and they had to pick up all the old debit cards in the county and be out late that night. >> once they get access, of course, to the debit card and pin number it's off to the races. >> reporter: the scam is popping up its ugly head in pinellas and hillsborough counties, negative news about certain banks having customers on alert. the caller insists the bank must retrieve the debit card and pin and send a new one in

seen in several years. i've never heard of a suspect actually going to the home. usually they commit these types of frauds over the phone and by u.s. mail. >> reporter: debit card and pin in hand it's time to shop, swipe and steal. that's her driving away in this silver four door. >> i just fell for it hook, line and sinker. >> reporter: do you know who this is? if, so cops would like to hear from you. the sad thing is the victims think they're preventing fraud going along with giving her the debit card and the pin numbers. right now the victim count stands at four, but the sergeant in my story thinks there's more out there. they'll probably step forward after this story. >> peter bernard on the night beat in largo, thank you. a teenager is accused of bringing a loaded gun to a hillsborough county high school. we're told administrators at bloomingdale high school in val rica received a tip the teen

43. the teen faces criminal charges tonight. a teen made up a story claiming she had been raped. last year tonya white claimed she was assaulted in the middle of a neighborhood. a massive investigation ensued and officials believe she is lying. 8 on your side caught up with white today, but she is sticking to her story. >> no. i have no comments. i can't believe they're pressing charges against me because i was attacked. >> reporter: so you didn't lie? >> no. >> reporter: the police say you lied an lied. >> i didn't lie. >> reporter: you stand by your story? >> i do. that's all i have to say. >> tonya white faces a charge of falsifying a report to law enforcement. a pasco county teenager is behind bars accused of breaking into the home of a tampa bay buccaneers football player at gerald mccoy's home at tampa palms while he played at raymond james stadium last night against the falcons. mccoy's father came face to face with that intruder. there was a scuffle before the

they're now worried about their safety. >> it's a point people are in a gated area where they shouldn't be subject to that kind of thing. >> mccoy's father has a fractured wrist as a result of the scuffle but should be okay. the 17-year-old accused intruder was later found and charged with armed burglary and grand theft. a terrifying day at rupture goers university, we now know a -- rutgers university, we now accused of a double stabbing at the business school. a student and faculty member was hurt and are being treated. the campus was on lockdown but is now back open. the motive for the attack is still unclear. one nypd sergeant is dead and another hurt after a shootout with a home invasion suspect in the bronx today. the officers were responding to a 911 call when they encountered manuel rosales. rosales opened fire on them.

parade for the team. the celebration started at wrigley field and ended in a rally at grant park. thousands lined the streets to clear on their beloved parts. the city also turned the chicago river cubby blue. the cubs defeated the cleveland indians in game seven. more sightings of the mysterious monkey in the bay area. one guy caught the two-legged creature strolling through a pinellas county park. weeks this primate has been spotted and it has people keeping their eyes peeled for where it pops up next. paul mueller joins us now live from the eddie seymour softball complex where wildlife experiments spotted it today, but he's still on the run tonight. >> reporter: that's true. an officer from the florida fish and wildlife happened to be here, spotted the monkey and called in for backup.

conditions for the meteor shower when the moon is less bright saturday when the peak occurs, maybe up to 10 meteors per hour maximum especially away from city lights this weekend. nice shot throwing the net andrew says, looks like he's throwing it over the sun, clear skies tonight. also this is out in the lakeland area and walden lake it looks like, tony getting a beautiful sunset sh days, we'll continue to see a bit of a dip in the humidity but not as much as earlier anticipated, maybe drier and cooler with this cold front. as we've gotten closer to the passage of the front, it hasn't been as much. so we're a little disappointed with, that but still we're in a very nice range of temperatures. the dew point takes a dip for a short period. at 6 a.m. it's 66 degrees. there are a few showers north of us and rain around portions

the tampa catholic crusaders thought it was a good idea to make fun of the tigers mascot, but everybody knows god don't like ugly, so the tigers first possession and senior quarterback daniel boone was a man, yes, a big man, dumps it down to travelle harris who averages 28 yards a reception to harris and he's gone. inside the red zone and florida commit li the end zone like a moth to a flame for his 23rd touchdown of the season. okay. now it's 14-0 tigers, but it's senior night for the crusaders. as you can tell, they still believe. it's a good thing because a few minutes later and bang, devin barrett hits the hole like he was shot out of a cannon and he turns it on 60 some yards.
