for joining us tonight here new tonight a pasco county meant ended up being saved by the very deputies he was trying to get away from. he accidentally ran into a canal and began drowning. tonight those deputies are talking about the moment i went from pursuit to rescue. we're live where that all happen, quite an amazing story and a good ending to this one. here's what happened, they chased this guy into this neighborhood. he stopped his car in the middle of the street, jumped out running and ran toward this tree line. he didn't realize on the other side of this tree line there is a canal. it started with the chase, deputies tried pulling the sky over, 40-year-old gerald bornstein. he was driving a jeep they had been looking for involved in it . >> you jerks the wheel to the

the driver of the vehicle proceeded to jump out the vehicle while it was still engaged in drive. >> that is when the foot chase began. what he didn't realize is when he ran away and through these trees off seabees drive he ran right into a canal. >> he started calling out that he couldn't swim. >> [ video playback ] >> and that is when 2 deputies shed their gear and jumped into save hi was dead weight. >> they pulled him to shore and begin cpr. >> we eventually got him back to breathing. he was spitting up the water. >> his brush with death not his first brush with the law. he has been arrested nearly a dozen times and tonight he has these deputies to thank for his going to jail again because it almost ended in a very different way. >> since changing hats we're chasing after them trying to

is in danger we try to save as well. >> tonight he is facing a number of charges including fleeing and eluding. here's the thing, you should be very happy that these folks saved his life because some of the people that live out here told those deputies there is an 8 out of 10 foot gator that lives in this canal. >> did the guy say yt was here appreciate it? >> not here, they brought him back to live right here in this crash but the deputies -- grass, but the deputies did go to the hospital and he told them that he is very thankful that they saved his life and that he was remorseful for this type of things. he said he didn't stop because he didn't have a drivers license. new tonight, hillsboro

florida voters said yes to medical marijuana on tuesday, but your employer can still say no. it is up to the state legislature to pass laws to allow the sale in the use of medical marijuana. those laws may not protect users in the workplace. jeff patterson joins us live in tampa with the story tonight. this amendment didn't change anything when it comes to you and your employer. >> not at all. good evening,. the nfl employer still in the use of marijuana even though it is now about in a majority of states legally in one form or another. state laws are still being set for marijuana. >> floridians shed -- said yes to 2 on tuesday, advocates of medical marijuana celebrated but the stronger backers admit the use of marijuana still presents a problem for employees . >> you take the risk of losing your job.

normal admits current law still allows employers to prevent employees from using medically approved marijuana. >> they don't have any control over our freedoms and what we do, but then again having a job as a privilege and in a right to work state the chips are stacked against the workers. >> he told me 5 states have laws to protect employees that use marijuana, but even in colorado where recreational use of marijuana is legal, an employer can still fire someone >> no employer will allow an employee to come in whether they need marijuana or not if they are in.. >> he is a tempera -- tampa attorney that specializes in employee lot but he says this the new area of law and it is no being decided for employees. >> you can have some arguments, if you have a disability and to me that a combination and it doesn't impact your work -- accommodation, and it does not

you can make an argument. it will have to be litigated and it will take some time. most floridians will not be able to go out tomorrow and legally buy marijuana. that will take sometimes. also, a major insurance provider will not allow you to use your co-pay even if you have a prescription for medical marijuana in florida. >> a lot of details still to be worked out with this one. an employer has the right to jump test employees or current employees for marijuana . >> yes they do. unless the state passes a law to mandate that the employer still has control and this one. hundreds of tax bills merrill -- mailed to hillsborough property owners disappeared in the mail. so what happened to them and how will this affect the discount homeowners get high- paying their taxes early.

wimauma woman did not get hurt -- hers. when she learned dozens of neighbors and i get there is she contacted our senior investigator. when i took a closer look dozens turned into 100. 300 property owners did not get the bills. >> somewhere in the vast expanse of the u.s. postal service it is the property tax bill notice. it along with hundreds of others is lost. what is the to other homeowners because you get a big discount if you pay before november 30. if you are new to the area you might not be aware of that. >> the schools borough county tax collectors office told me roughly 455,000 tax bill notices when out october 31. marine sent in a bill -- email to neighbors asking if they had received a their bills . she showed me dozens of responses.

mine either, didn't get hours either, my sister-in-law and i did not receive hours. >> the tax collector set all the tax bills when out. she called the post office. >> i got a return phone call by the postmaster telling me there was a problem and that he had started an investigation into the missing tax bills. >> she contacted target 8. i found there was a similar complaint from another homeowner. >> any idea missing? >> at this point no. >> the county was billed about $76,000 by a private vendor to print out and package tax notices. you also paid another 169 for postage. >> by florida law it puts the onus on the property owner to know that their bill is due. >> genesis direct laid the

the 300 the 320 loss statements have been located. >> this afternoon post office spokesperson tells me the missing statements were sent to the wrong postal facility and they will be delivered sometime today. most of the mail sent by the tax collectors office were in fact delivered. the tax collector told me this was just inexcusable this sort of thing. any explanation on how it could happen? >> these were not scanned just misplaced. >> if you have not received tax bill go to hill's tax.org and find your information online and pick your bill online as well. >> and they can still get the discount?>> 4 percent -- open until november 30.
