at 7:00: >> good evening. we begin with an alarming crime at a tampa housing complex. police are investigating the shooting of a 21-month-old girl. thankfully, her injuries are not life-threatening. chip osowski joins us from the area. the really a lemming fish alarming part us-the child's age is this happened in broad daylight. a very troubling case. the shooting happened around 12:30 pm this afternoon at the roadless park housing complex on central avenue south of whi diligently at this hour looking for the gunman. police believe eduardo avila was the target. he watched as police gathered evidence outside the apartment where his 21-month-old daughter aliyah was hit by a stray bullet. >> the father of the toddler was outside, was approached by some other men, who were behaving in a threatening manner. he went into the house, several shots were fired. we counted 15 or more shots fired. some were shot through the doubt

tonight, there are serious questions about the states response to a sinkhole that opened at a mosaic plant, dumping millions of gallons of contaminated water into the aquifer. records reviewed by senior investigator steve andrews show the state was in no hurry to share the information. >> reporter: while this massive sinkhole unnerved neighbors, documents provided by the state show little to no urgency about the radioactive water that poured into the aquifer. graham says the governor failed to provide records as required by law. >> it's appalling either way. >> reporter: on september 12, more than two weeks after water began escaping, the epa road to the state "we have received the mosaic document in which mosaic suggested a meeting between the governments and mosaic. has there been any discussion relating to having that

police are searching for the man who robbed a female student on the south florida tampa campus at 9 pm last night. the woman told police two men followed her through a common area and then approached her and grabbed her back pack and nickless. >> people walk at night every day after class and you feel this is a safe campus so having a robbery at 9 pm is kind of scary.>> the university sent out a mass text message to parents and students ab they are searching through surveillance video to identify the men. a new study is linking an increase in the florida homicide rate to the stand your ground law. the study was published in the american journal of medical association. it found an increase in suicide since 2005. the trayvon martin case in 2012 brought national attention to the law even though george zimmerman never -- never used it as defense.

tampa roads have thousands of potholes and today, jeff patterson showed mayor a quorum a pothole that has been around so long it's starting to grow weeds. >> this pothole has been here so long it's growing weeds. showed the mayor the problem and then asked, how can this happen? >> it's a reality. after the rains we had a year ago, we literally got 5000 new potholes that popped up as a result of that flooding. the same is true this summer. >> reporter: lisa knows about the pothole problem all too well.

we have brought you a lot of stories about goats but they've all lacked something very important. obviously, monkeys. finally a farm in china has made goats even cuter. now, there is literally a monkey on their back. the monkeys showed up a few days ago and immediately took a liking to the goats, grabbing on and writing them around the farm. -- riding them around the farm. theypl monkeys to a local zoo to grow up a little bit. stop it, right? and then release them into the wild. >> if you could make a recipe of the perfect news story of the year for me, that would be it. >> you terrified me for a second when you said recipe. i was like where is this ending? >> no. >> a recipe for the perfect story.
