gatlingburg, tennessee. >> take a look. this is gatlingburg where thousands of evacuees are staying in shelters and more than 250 buildings so far burned. >> reporter: out of control wildfires force thousands to flee. >> go, go, go. >> reporter: some have to drive through the flames to get to safety. >> it's crazy. >> reporter: more than a dozen fires threaten the great smoky mountains of eastern tennessee. but instead of mountainside, people feel hot flames and smoke being pushed by strong winds. >> the power went out. so it was very dark. the smoke was so thick, we couldn't breathe. our eyes were stinging. so we just grabbed a blanket and took off running. >> we just watched a building go down in flames to the right of us. and we pulled in front of another building but the firefighter got us. i thank him so much. >> reporter: the fires damaging or destroying homes and businesses.

house. but, you know, thing cans be rebuilt. >> it's difficult to go out into a community and try to protect and serve others when your own property and everything that you have worked for is burning down. but that's what these men and women have done for the last 24 hours. >> reporter: as the firefighters fight the flames, those in shelters wonder what the fires will spare. >> the things i've known prob can just close my eyes. pray for us. that's the one thing i know that will work. god will take care of the rest. >> and at one point, fire threatened the aquarium and employees had to evacuate, leaving the animals behind but a couple hours ago, officials were able to get a team of i- oologists inside and the facility and all 10,000 fish

rain, wildfires in the bay area have not been a problem yet. here's julie phillips with that. >> we are working our way towards that point. we have barely seen any rain at all over the last few weeks. we have only picked up .01 in november. we are tying this year for the second driest november on record. it looks like unless we pick up rain today which does not look tomorrow looking small as well. on max defender 8, what we're looking at, more, mostly dry conditions expected to stay that way for the rest of today. we are not tracking any rain. yesterday, we picked up maybe a trace amount at the airport. we did not pick up measurable rainfall. and as we take a step back, you can see some rain in mississippi, alabama, these storms expected to weaken before this front reaches the tampa bay area on thursday.

been evacuated. the fire is still burning. we're told this could be the work of an arsonist. number two, flags are at half staff following the crash of a chartered plane carrying a professional brazilian soccer team. more than 70 people died when the plane hit the ground last night. only six people survived. according to authorities, the plane lost radar contact because of an electrical failure. the video shows survivors and number three, the driver in the chattanooga, tennessee school bus crash that killed six children last week appeared in court today. but he did not make a plea. instead, he asked the judge to continue the hearing which the judge granted. the next appearance will be december 15th. and number four, president- elect donald trump announced he will nominate georgia congressman tom price to head the department of health and human services.

critics. if approved, he is expected to dismantle the affordable care act and help republicans implement their own blueprint for health care reform. and across the nation, workers from fast food chains, even uber holding rallies today. >> they want the minimum wage raised to $15 for hour. at least 26 people were arrested in new york. mostly for blocking traffic. the majority of protesters were peaceful. in chicago, workers took wage which is currently $10.50 an hour. back here in the bay area, workers at this mcdonald's in tampa walked out starting at 6:00 a.m. in support of the fight for higher minimum wage. this was the first of several events that fight for 15 was sponsoring. for the worker, support from the community goes a long way in their fight for wage increases and workers rights in general. >> it gives me hope that the people in america still want to
