are you feeling lucky, the powerball at $900 million, we'll show you the powerball mania sweeping the country. and it's been a nice day across florida, but don't let that fool you, john says some rain may be on the way. cbs 4 news starts right now. this is south florida's cbs 4 news. at 6:00, the miami dolphins had their coach announcing adam gase as their new head coach this afternoon. tonight, your dolphins station has you covered on a disappointing season today. gase is the right man they said to leave the team. we have live team coverage beginning with cbs 4 sports anchor mike munos live at training camp. hey, mike. >> reporter: hey, mary bell. it was a disappointing season. 6 and 10 dolphins, missing the post season for the searchth -- 7th straight year. steven ross told us he called his friends around the league

kept coming back to them and that was adam gase. they think they landed the number one candidate out there. >> i'd like to introduce adam gase. >> reporter: adam gase walked into the miami dolphins. >> we've spent hundreds of hours talking about it, looking under every stone, trying to figure out who would be the best type of coach to lead the miami dolphins in the future. as i've told you before, i bought the miami dolphins and i own the miami dolphins because i want to win super bowls, not just make the playoffs. >> reporter: but with gase comes question without experience. he's never played in college or the pros, but has been in the business since he was 18. >> being a coordinator for the denver broncos and with the

this business, you know, age is only a number, but you get older really quick. >> reporter: while this 37-year-old may lack experience, he makes up for it in accountability. >> i learned a long time ago it's about what you can teach players, and your work ethic. john told me in 2007, players don't care what you done in the past, they want to know how you can help them on the field, how you can make them a better player and how you can get them paid. and if you can do those type of things, guys will respect that. >> reporter: as for ross, he's ready to win, and is giving his new head coach complete control of the roster, making it clear there is one voioi in the locker room. >> i will never pick a player, i will never call a play, and i won't tell the coaches who to play. that isn't my role. my role is to be supportive, and

in order to win. >> reporter: now, after the press conference, some of us were talking to vice president tannen balm and i asked him was guy. he said after every interview, he said every time he was at the top of everyone's list. so obviously the consensus here, and he's there guy, so we will see if they can put it together on the field. coming up later in sports, we'll hear what he thinks about ryan tannehill and the rest of the dolphins roster. maribell, back to you. and cbs donna is live at the ale house talking to fans about the new coach. how are they reacting to this? >> reporter: dolphins fans, and even those who are not fans all agree this was a good move. football streams on the of its all afternoon, and -- football streaming on all of the tvs all afternoon.

this was the right thing to do. good guy. >> 37-year-old offensive coordinator. he's up and coming up. a hot commodity. >> reporter: gase coming from the chicago bears where he was offensive coordinator this season and before that he was offensive coordinator for the broncos in 13 and 14, and leading in scoring, and passing offenses. he helped qb peyton manning have the most prolific season of any quarterback in history, manning earning his fifth nfl, mvp and offensive player of the year awards. >> you go through coaches like a carousel. sooner or later, you have to settle down and stop being so quick in the decision. just take your time, and get someone who knows the whole process. >> i think it's a good move for the dolphins, something they should have done a long time ago. they need to get the team to where they should be. >> he's a good molder of

be in good hands, so i think it's a good move for the dolphins. >> reporter: and back out live, as you heard mike munos say, he's never played college or pro football, but he shot up the ranks and now becomes the 9th if you mean time coach. cbs 4 news. >> donna, thank you. mexico is willing to extradite drug lord, joaquin 'el chapo'. five of his men were killed during the raid, but the criminal was captured unharmed. guzman was last seen? july when surveillance video captured his escape from a maximum security prison in mexico. that was the second time 'el chapo' had escaped from prison.

are investigating the murder of a woman in southwest miami-dade. >> reporter: police have not released much details, but we got the chance to speak to the victim's mother who was vastated, as you can imagine. tonight she's asking for help to find her daughter's killer. a mother collapses, feet away from where her daughter's lifeless body is covered by a yellow sheet. she identifies the victim as 35-year-old beshawn jackson. >> she just had a birthday january the 3rd. >> reporter: miami-dade police responsed to a shooting -- responded to a shooting call around 7:30 in the morning in southwest miami-dade. the woman had injuries to her head. detectives pronounced her dead on the scene as they piece together what happened and who did this, and as this mother begins the painful grieving process, she's asking the public for help as she seeks justice >> i just ask y'all to pray for

what gun owners are saying about . dramatic video tonight out of brazil. protesters are against a price increase in public transportation. fairs in sao pablo, they broke windows with rocks, and police used teargas and pepper spray to disburse the crowd. and also held in rio. the man who used a gun stolen from police to ambush an officer in philadelphia is charged with attempted murder. the alleged gunman, edward archer says he was acting in the name of islam when he fired more

jesse hartnet. surveillance photos show him approaching the cruiser with his gun drawn, and another shows him reaching inside the vehicle and firing at point-blank. the officer is recovering at the hospital and is expected to be okay. today, thousands attended the florida gun show in miami. the event held at the miami-dade fair grounds just days after president obama announced his controversial executiveve order on gun control. the executive order calls for stricter background check on all firearm sales to close a loophole for gun shows. we talked with gun owners where a new law allows people to carry handguns in many public places. >> i feel you're more of a target like they kno you have a gun and you're out there and you're making people feel uncomfortable, and i feel like if you want to carry, but carry concealed. >> that law went into effect on january 1st allowing nearly 1

women got away police are looking for a thief who stole the car with a 6-year-old in her stepdad's car when a man noticed the keys were still inside and hopped in it. then he took off with her stepdad. when her stepdad saw what happened he tried chasing the car, about ten minutes later the driver told the child to get out of the car. a good samaritan helped bring the girl to safety. >> she held on to me and they wanted to take her back to her

>> police are still looking for the thief and the car. a 2012 black kia optima. cqqv 13. if you know anything, you're asked to call police. and police are searching for two women who tget men drugging them and robbing them. police say this woman, went home with a man she met at a restaurant this week. the man believes he was drug and when he came to, the woman was gone and so was his rolex. a man met a man at mortons restaurant. when they went back, he told police he you, too, was drugged gun. on their backs. to call police. it was a life changing day for one south frida homeowner thanks to the miami-dade police department.

restore this woman's home today -- officers helped restore this woman's home. the 64-year-old took on the project expect couldn't finish it. the officers came to the rescue lps to fix up her home. >> i have enjoyed them the whole week, just has been a learning experience for me. this is an experience i'llever forget. >> she says her home looked more beautiful than when she received her keys more than 40 years ago. what a great story. >> i love a great story like that just before the weather. and then you follow it up with a pretty good forecast, too. >> i hope so. >> yes. >> at least the weekend started really nice. >> warm. >> warm, right. and we tied a record in miami, 84. wow. some parts of the country are in the single digits. makes 84 feel r rlly, really nice. >> is the place to be, for sure. >> people spend a lot of money to come here. we live here. >> we're so lucky. >> any way, check out what's

radar, nice and quiet, just the way we like it. on a saturday evening, no green, yeow, or red blips and blobs on the radar. maybe heading towards bayside or anyplace else, and south florida for dinner or overnight fun it looks like up until about midnight, is when we have to turn our attention to rain and storms, we'll see the southwestern tailend of that sweeping through broward, 9:00 p.m. through 1 a.m.. 8:00 tonight, nice out there, very mild, and 75. as we head towards midnight, 72, still nice and pleasant. and daybreak, 7 a.m., showers will move in before that. showers and storms around, and temperatures right around 70. talk about the rest of the forecast in just a minute. first a live look outside, more

are really, really nice. 81, currently 79 key west. it is springtime in january. the humidity is 67 %, a light south-southwest breeze. and there's been no measurable rain. we tied the record of 84 today. everybody was well into the 80s today a we'll see some lower 80s tomorrow, as well. we've got 50s and 60s up north and central, 70s about 80 across the southern portions of the peninsula, and here comes the rain. here's the wide view pushing from west to east across the sunshine state tonight. that's all part of the tennessee valley so we'll see that sweeping on through tonight. maybe another round of showers tomorrow afternoon and it will start to clear out. look at the temperatures, 2 at minneapolis, 19 in kansas city, 32 in chicago, 45 in new york city. we're as we mentioned earlier,, tied the record of 84. so money can't buy those kind of tempatures, but you can certainly enjoy them if you're on vacation. showers and storms after midnight, temperatures down to about 70.

adam gase, offensive coordinator with denver and chicagthe past few years. the fins are hoping he can have the same kind of success with their quarterback, ryan tannehill. gase made it a point at the conference, everyone is going to be under the microscope. >> i'm going to be working directly with him and then i am going to hire guys on offensive staff to also help him develop. i feel like when we put his staff together, you know we're all going to be able to help him get a little bit better. we're going to go back, erce, evaluate everything. i think we're going to have to see what his strengths are and really emphasize that. >> and right now, in coral gabbles the number one basketball team trying to stay hot. florida state, dickey v in the house tonight for this game,

going to be going under the knife to repair a fractured left ankle. the injury occurred in the beach bowl when he landed awkwawaly out of bands in the 1st half. they lost that gamend it looks like he'll miss spring football. that's going to do it for sports, but once again, the dolphins introduce new head coach adam gase.
