championship in seven seasons. good morning fro the studio 57 newsroom at "cbs news" headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president obama delivers his final state of the union address tonight. the president is expected to layout his agenda for his fin year, focus on the big picture and delive an optimistic view of the united states. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie, good morning to everybody. this is president obama's las high profile opportunity to reach out to people before voting begins on february 1st for his successor. he's not expected to endorse a particular candidate, but he will layout domestic and international priorities that build on the ste he's already taken and that vision certainly lines up more with democrats than republicans. >> the president of the united states.

fine am state of the union address tonight, president obama will talk to the american pple about the nation's challenges and opportunities ahead. >> what's critical are the kind of decisions that we make now will have a significant impact on not just the next generation of americans, but future generations of maris. >> i don't think i have ever been more optimistic about a year ahead than i am right now. >> reporter: the president is expected to highlight executive actions he plans to take to tackle gun violence withoutut congressional approval. but the white house says he'll also discuss issues where both parties could work towing. >> we see there is strong bipartisan report for row form on capitol hill. >> reporter: this year, president obama invited 23 guests to the house chamber to hear his speech, including a syrian refugee and an american hero. 23-year-ol spencer stone and his two nendz friends helped take down a heavily armed gunman on a paris train last year.

biden says bernie sanders speaks to a quote yes or noing deep and real on the issue of wealth disparity t. issue he says hillary clinton has only just begun to address. >> it's real e relatively new for hillary to talk about. that hillary's focus has been other things up until now. that's been bernie's, no one questioned bernie's authenticity on those issues. >> biden also says:t has come up with good ideas on the wealth disparity issue. with the iowa caucus just three weeks away, the democratic race is heating up. a new poll shows:itself with a 3-point lead in iowa and sanders leading by 4 in new hampshire. as craig boswell reports, last night the democrats participated in a voter forum in des moines. >> it could be that the inevitable candidate for the democratic nomination may not be oinevitable today. >> reporter: clinton has spent much of her campaigning attacking republicans. she continued on that track

appearance on the iowa black forum on fusion. >> who would have thought donald trump would be lead income national lls? i mean for those of you ever thought about running for president take part? >> reporter: the polls are also close on the republican side, where donald trump holds on a 2-point lead over ted cruz. trump also maintains a commanding lead in new hampshire, with cruz, john kasich and marco rubio in a virtual tie for second. on monday, trump said cruz could not legally run for president. he was born if canada to an american mother. >> a lot of people think have you to be born here. >> reporter: but cruz has asserted all along trump is wasting his time on a non-issue. >> i have never breathed a breath of air on this planet when i was not a u.s. citizen. >> reporter: the candidates will learn what matters to voters when ty weigh in for the first time in iowa on february 1st. case are boswell, "cbs news," walk.

debate is this thursday in south carolina. seven candidates, not including rand palm and carley fiorina will take part. paul and fiorina were offered spots in the so-called second tier faceoff. palm says he won't participate. actor sean penn hazy se has nothing to hide with his interview with kingpin el cpap po guzman. their meeting led to a reign on mexico's pacific coast. don champion has the dramatic video. >> reporter: 17 mexican marines stormed the house early friday morning. they met heavy resistance and ptied slowly, tossing grenades as they moved in. it took the marines 15 minutes to secure the house by the guzman -- five of the guzman men

escape down this elaborate tunnel. guzman's stole a car, they were captured on a highway outside of town. inside the hour, authorities found dvds of the tv show starring the woman that helped sean penn g t his rolling stone interview. these are pictures showing them arriveing at a mexican airport in a meeting with a man that would take them to guzman guzman tells penn he is the world's largest drug supplier and that it's a reality that drugs stroy. doesman is back in the same prison he escaped from six months ago. this time the police isn't surrounded by tanks and soldiers. the tunnel he used to escape has been sealed with concrete. now, guzman is being moved from cell to cell and is not being held on the ground floor. guzmoon's attorney, meantime, is challenging the extradition requests.

is opened that could include sean penn. later today, "rolling stone" plans to reveal more of the interview with guzman. >> thank you, don. the mother of the texas teen who used the affluenza defense in the deadly drunken driving case, is expected to be released from custody today. tawnya couch's bail was reduced from one million to 75,000. couch was brought back to texas after being caught with her son ethan at a mexican resort. she is charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon. now breast cancer screening, there has been much controversy over when to start mammograms. an independent national task force is out with the latest recommendations. danielle notingham has our report. >> reporter: the debate over breast cancer strooen screening has left many women confused. >> it's a woman's health thing that has changed over the years. >> reporter: the u.s.

continuing to recommend mammograms every itself year. the group says screening kick effective for women in their 40s. overdiagnosis is a concern. >> the benefits are smaller. the harms need to be carefully viewed. the task force supports women having this information a a making individualized informed choices. >> reporter: the recommendations come after the american cancer society said in october that women should now start annual mammograms at age 45. this doctor says she's concerned about the message young women may be getting. >> they don't need to examine the breasts the doctors don't need to look. they don't need mammograms. those three things together creates a worrisome vacuum for me. we have as to remember women in their 40s and below still get breast cancer. >> reporter: danielle nottingham, "cbs news." >> and we'll talk with cancer expert dr. david agus about the

allegedly shoved a flight atteant. a producer from our cbs miami station recorded and air marshall following the man to restrain him until police arrived and took him away in handcuffs. a viage in new york votes on a controversial logo and new details in the investigation into an assault in a brooklyn park. those are some of the headlines on the new york news stands. the "new york times" reports three teens are charged with raping a woman in the mark. she was raped as she walked with charges against a fourth are pending. police are looking for a fifth suspect. the daily mail reports the american women killed in italy s last alive in a club. 35-year-old ashley olsen visited thursday. it's known for drugs, sex and violence. police believe she might have been killed by someone she met home.

. he's a look at the forecast around the country. at least eight people are dead in an explosion in central istanbul this morning. the blast rock and area popular with tourists. police and ambulances have rushed to the scene. state-run television says the explosion was likely caused by a suicide bomber.
