attempt t land a spacex rocket on a barge in the pacific comes up short. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. three americans released by iran are in germany this morning receiving medical evaluations. a fourth freed american decided to stainside iran. their freedom in exchange for a group of iranians in american custody came just before the u.s. slapped new sanctions on the country. iran is calling those new sanctions illegitimate. don champion is here in new york. >> reporter: from the release of the american prisoners to the lifting of old sanctions, the weekend was marked by a flurry of diplomacy when it comes to iran. this morning, the country's moderate president says the newly implemented nuclear deal will not only imove his country's economy, but also open what he calls new windows for engagement with the world. it is a long-awaited moment of

also this weekend, the u.s lifted economic sanctions on iran as part of the deal to roll back the country's nuclear program. >> once again, we are seeing what is possible with strong american diplomacy. >> reporter: after iran recently test-fired a missile, the u.s. moved this weekend to impose new sanctions against 11 individuals and entities tied to the country's ballistic missile program. now, there are at least two other americans thought to be detained in iran. a fifth american who was released over the weekend as part of a separate deal is now back at home in massachusetts. >> don champion here in new york, thank you very much, don. the fate of three americans missing in iraq is a mystery this morning. iraqi media reports, say that they we kidnapped in or near the capital of baghdad. the u.s. embassy in iraq confirms they are missing but didn't provide details. embassy staff recently received information an iranian-backed american.

massive surf. the coast guard says the search has covered over 18,000 square miles off oahu. debris has turned up but no sign of survivors. the marines were aboard two transport helicopters that crashed late thursday during a training mission. florida communities are cleaning up this morning after a pair of adly tornadoes ripped through. it tossed their mobile home across the street early sunday near tampa. several other members of their family are hospitalized. >> all of a sudden, the tree behind us, the bending tree started blowing around and we, all of a sudden, snap, snap, hit the roof and got very scary very quick. >> another twister touched down near a beach community in sarasota county. the tornado destroyed or ruined several homes and debris spread over a wide area. whiteout conditions are blamed for a massive pileup in michigan that left one person

more than 40 cars and trucks were involved sunday in the chain reacacon collision. three people are hospitalized, in critical condition. federal help will begin flowing into flint, michigan, after president obama gned an emergency declaration over its water crisis. at a church servicsunday, reverend jesse jackson told worshipers the full effect of the lead contamination is not yet known. he says residents there have been portrayed. >> we are convinced that this is a disaster zone, not just an emergency. maybe there should be a duct tape around the city because flint is a crime scene. >> residents and cars were handed cases of bottled water that's been trucked in. coming up on the "morning news." rocket launch. spacex delivers a satellite into orbit but it fails to nail the landing. we will show you the dramatic

spacex launched a falcon rocket nine on sunday and successfully delivered a weather satellite intnto orbit, but the rocket had trouble when it tried to land on a barge in the pacific. the rocket tipped over and exploded. spacex ceo elon musk said one of the landing legs did not go in place. the racket over a pro tennis scandal and a fatal police shooting inside a fast food restaurant. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "st. louis post dispatch" reports police killed an armed robbery suspect. police say last night, the man, who is black, raised a handgun toward the sergeant who is white and refused orders to drop it. the 13-year veteran officer fired two shots, killing the man. afterwards, about 40 people gathered outside, some chanting protests against police. buzzfeed reports on leaked

the country. walmart is shutting down 269 stores amid increasing competition, particularly from amazon. 150 stores in the u.s. will close. the rest are in latin america, mostly in brazil. the closures affected 16,000 employees and 10,000 of whom are in the u.s. walmart has 11,000 stores worldwide. "wall street journal" reports that uber is teaming up with airbus for an on-demand helicopter service. the aircraft maker will provide helicopters for uber to use during the sundance film festival in utah this week. cost of a ride has not been disclosed. in sports, the nfl championship matchups are set. yesterday, the broncos rallied to beat e steelers 23-16. peyton manning led a touchdown fourth quarter drive capped by c.j. anderson's go ahead 1-yard run. brandon mcmanus iced the win
