hank tester stir -- hank tester joins us live. >> reporter: i can tell you right now the principal street in miami is closed down. an ugly accident and this viewer video just after the crash at 32nd st. and sw. 8th st. the driver claims he lost his brakes as he was heading west, clips to cars, and slid i way -- sideways into an suv. and a miami dade police car both stop waiting for the light. >> the brakes stopped working so i veered to the left so i wouldn't hit the car in front of me and the light turned green and i had to -- i could not stop.

i'm hank tester cbs 4 news tonight. now to a live look at the doppler radar. you can see heavy showers and thunderstorms on the west coast. john gerard is tracking what you can expect tomorrow morning. >> it will be a wet morning commute. even though the storms and showers are not here yet they are really pounding away and extending all the way down. most of this will be heading north toward legal but -- lake okeechobee tonight. here's the way things will morning. at 6 am showers and storms around. at 9 am showers and storms likely and then we will get a little bit of a break around noon. breaking news right now. two women have been shot in coconut grove.

last few minutes. a statement saying that donald trump's campaign manager has threatened to megan kelly and that the network would not allow -- the campaign would not allow the network to terrorize his employees. tonight we are getting an exclusive look at what multiple gunshots to to the car of a miami gardens police officer who was ambushed on the job. officer david stalin was shot last friday while filling out paperwork in his patrol car. this afternoon he was released from the hospital. they say the shooter unloaded at least six shots in the car. he is facing multiple charges including attempted murder on a lot of enforcement officer. the leader of a group of protesters occupying a federal wildlife refuge in american has been arrested. he was arrested during a traffic stop. up to eight of his followers were also detained.

told at least one person -- one of the militants was killed. the group has been protesting federal land policies. new tonight police are searching for for thieves who broke into a home in little havana. it happened while the owners were out of town. they got inside by smashing a kitchen window. surveillance video shows the men ransacking the home and stealing several pieces of jewelry. anyone with information is asked to call police. today the body of an agent shot and killed -- killed in a crash in miami beach has been taken to the funeral home. it was charged as a hit and run to crash and the driver will be back in court in february. new details about a crash

lives of three young men including two brothers. court documents have been uncovered the show police are investigating the driver of the car the men were in for dui manslaughter. carey codd is live in lauderhill with the story he will not see anywhere else. >> reporter: there is a memorial to the three young men who lost their lives. other mementos have been placed. tonight as he mentioned a search warrant indicates police are investigating the driver of that car for dui manslaughter and we are getting more information from the search warrant about what led to the crash. me. i'm very much in denial. >> reporter: he is talking about his brothers. both of them along with a friend died when the aldi they were in crashed into a lauderhill leg

police are investigating the driver of the audi for dui manslaughter. witnesses advised that the yellow audi was traveling at a high rate of speed when he approached the end -- intersection. witnesses told police he tried to make a left turn from the right turn lane then went onto the shoulder, past a tree, through a fence, and into the lake. the documents said he admitted to police he was driving fast. the search warrant reveals that when they encountered him he had blood shot and watery eyes was slurring speech and had the odor of an alcoholic beverage. he said that he and his friends were at the bowling alley prior to the crash were he said he bought a picture -- a pitcher of beer. he said he had 2 cups of beer and play don't -- one game of bowling before leaving.

wasn't fair to any of them. >> reporter: we tried to speak to him to say but that -- but he did not want to answer our questions. >> reporter: the victims families are praying for justice. >> he deserves anything that comes to him because he has called -- caused a lot of hurt and pain. >> reporter: no charges have been filed at this point. lauderhill police have told us that they would be testing his blood among other things in this case to try to figure out if drugs or alcohol had a role in this crash. there is nothing in the search warrant indicating what the blood alcohol level was after the crash. live in lauderhill carey codd cbs 4 news tonight. we are hearing calls from help from a megayacht that sank off the coast of fort lauderdale last night. the 106 foot boat was about 13 miles offshore when the vessel began taking on water.

woman the fright of her life. >> the lady is sound asleep and she feels something on her chest and she slowly wakes up and realizes that there is an animal curled up sleeping on her chest. i guess her first impression was that it might be a cat. when they both got a look at each other they both freaked out. the lady screamed the kinkajou took off and went into her attic. >> reporter: the woman called her daughter and her friend were able to lure the animal out of the attic using a youtube video of the kinkajou. now it is at an animal hospital in south miami. >> they are not predators. they are very peaceful animals. they live in treetops and eat fruit and bugs and things like that. they are pretty docile creatures unless cornered. their teeth are their defense mechanisms. >> reporter: also known as honey bears they are rarely seen because they are

florida. the research on seatbelt citations is scheduled to be released tomorrow. jim defede he got a hold of an advanced copy. >> reporter: the study on american civil liberties union said -- found that blacks were pulled over for seatbelt offenses two times more often than whites. they were cited two times more often by broward county sheriff's office. three times more often by palm beach county sheriff's office. >> with that does is raise a red flag that racial profiling may be affecting the safety belt law. >> reporter: the staff attorney with the aclu racism program made this comment. >> we should be concerned when any community is being over ticketed. >> reporter: in 2009 police officers were given the authority to stop a car when

at the time civil rights groups were worried that police would use the law to stop drivers that they otherwise would not be able to pull over. cbs reviewed the numbers and found some interesting disparities as well. in 2014 the fort lauderdale police department issued 809 seatbelt tickets with 539 going to black drivers. in miami shores there were 261 seatbelt citations issues with 186 going to blacks. targeting blacks for traffic stops stigmatizes the community. it causes them to be distrustful of police. it also financially punishes poorer communities with fines. >> this can lead to cycles of ticketing, drivers license suspensions for not being able to pay fines, subsequent tickets, more fines, and even jail. >> reporter: in some cases the outcomes can be more serious. >> even routine traffic stop --

from two different directions but right now the bulk of the heavy storms are from naples toward fort myers. we will miss most about tonight but we will watching showers coming in off the ocean later on tonight and into the morning hours. temperatures at hialeah gardens and fort beach winds are out the southeastern now. we are getting warmer weather winds coming in on the backside of high pressure tonight. that is going to continue to keep things on the warm and muggy side for this time of the year. passing storms in a couple of gusty downpours are moving through tomorrow. as we head into thursday a strong low pressure over the eastern gulf will give us a better chance of a stormy period. then the good news if you want to think optimistically after that we will see the front go on through and as we head toward friday cooler skies and
