started here. i call this the fun room, not the spin room because it is going to get having. governor nor carlos lopez to come and join us out here. if for moment, why don't you come out here. this is alex with the rubio campaign. it was a pretty good night for you guys. just as an observer, it was definitely for tonight. marco rubio. he was very presidential: he focused on the issues, he made sharp contrast on substance and policy from cuba on stand being israel and our allie, on va accomplished, things he has channeled the anger into real solid tangible accomplishment that is benefit florida and the american people. >> coming into tonight, we were looking at the poll data instead of 20 points you were only 8 points behind the leader here, donald trump in state of mr. do you think you make it up

a number of different issues. cbs 4 hank is live in ere with what these protests are all about. hank. >> reporter: we're across the street because we covered it protest and then we -- there was no way for us to get back in. so, the protest is over with. there were issues that went down in the debate. there was certainly a lot of issues talked about outside. the people outside hoped that the guys inside did hear them. let's take a look. what would a major political event be without some type of protest demonstration? this one outside the debate area well organized, brought together a board of groups, organizations and individuals providing a myriad. >> we want universal affordable health care. >> from the union which represents 1.5 million public service workers. a major cause for tonight's action, a pay rise for child care workers, a $15 minimum

organize a union. >> i represent the 64 million people who live in poverty states. >> i do. >> i am one of them. were here. so were the immigration community. early on bernie sanders supporters stopped by. >> not one has said they support free public college education for all if young high school. all this went on outside the debate on the university of miami campus. >> to the group here think those on the debate stage got the message. >> i am hoping if they lookout and see the crowd they will say oh wow, i want their vote. so if they want our vote, then they will have to help us out; right? >> well, a lot of the people did tell me that they really don't feel that the folk that is are running for president are really that sensitive about those who deal with poverty

cont >> a developing story where a woman came home to a burglar in action. the homeowner shot and killed the teenage thief while he was climbing out of heroine doe. cbs 4 has the late frost the scene. >> reporter: miami dade police detectives search for clues to what appears to be a case of a homeowner protecting her property the 54-year-old woman who own this is home in northwest miami dade. got word her alarm -- and police say she was armed. >> she observed a subject exiting the home through the rear. >> miami dade police say there was a confrontation, shots were

pronounced dead at the hospital. they cannot tell us whether the homeowner has been victimized before, whether anything was taken. the homeowner is cooperating. >> she's a person that is obviously a little distraught because this is her home, you know, that someone obviously was in. >> a couple of people showed up on scene and told reporters they were family members to have teen who died. they did not want to answer questions though. investigators say they're still trying to sort this out and want the public to remember that if possible, it is best not to take these types of situations into your own hands. >> if there's a situation to happen or they believe there's a burglary at their home on confrontation, dial 9-1-1. have the police go out and make that. >> cbs 4 news. part of a corruption investigation. several public officials

focus of the probe. the herald says thety is investigating alleged kick back schemes between government contractors and public officials. the city has been drowning in debt in large part because of uncollected revenue and mismanagement. >> like i stated if anything is doing something illegal or wrong, they should have bust them a long time ago. >> the fbi says so far no one has been arrested. the mayor has not commented on the investigation. tonight a man accused of attacking several people in corral gables is locked up. the suspect approached them and grabbed their behinds. now we're hear prosecuting a woman who had a rock thrown at her as well. cbs 4 spoke with her. >> i'm happy the police caught her. >> attacked her as she walked

straight out of the southeast, at between 8 to 20 miles per hour, so that is kicking up some rip currents again by the beaches, that's a big problem tomorrow. be careful at the beaches, stay close to life guard stations and a moderate risk of rip currents on saturday as well. >> not much going on weather wise across the state but there's that very, very strong weather system coming out of mexico and texas with flood producing rains out that way. the heavy rain and flooding will get weaker in the day 50s head as it pushs to the east, it will kind of shrink a little bit and as we head toward saturday, we will see still some drier air sitting over most of the sunshine state. then, that rain area will start pushing to the east but getting much weaker on sunday and then it will pass through by sunday and early monday. so even though we expect maybe a few showers here this weekend nothing at all like what they're getting pounded with across the southern plains. a partly cloudy night, breezy and mild down to about 71. beautiful day tomorrow, thegi friday. it will be a breezy and warm
