waited decades for diplomacy. cabola, cuba. donald trump heads to washington today. the republican front-runner is set to make a major speech to a pro israeli group, but members of the audience plan on walking out. >> let's go. it's good! >> the sweet 16 is set. who is in and who is out and the best buzzer-beaters from the first weekend of march madness. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. later today, president obama meets with cuban president raul castro in havana. it was a meeting and trip that was unimaginable in the not too distant past. the president and family arrived yesterday, the start of a three-day visit to an old cold war foe.

steps in his efforts to normalize relations with cuba. chris martinez has our report from havana. >> reporter: president obama brought his family to cuba, a big step towards normalizing relations with a cold wear adversary. he is the first sitting u.s. president to visit cuba in nearly 90 years. this is a historic video and an opportunity to engage directly with the cuban people. >> reporter: the president greeted u.s. embassy staff and then toured old havana. for weeks, work crews have been preparing for his arrival, restoring some roads and repaving others. fresh coats of paint have also been applied to homes and businesses to areas the president will tour and this welcome sign was put up outside of a restaurant in old havana. many hope will it pave the way for more openness between the island nation and the united states. >> i think that we -- we are going to have some changes, ut it's going to be slowly. >> reporter: during his stay, the president will meet with a

dissidents here at the white -- u.s. embassy but the white house won't say who is exactly on that guest list. the president will meet with u.s. and cuban business leaders. many cubans are hopeful his visit here will make life better. >> i think people want to har from obama on his feet. they want to see what he actually believes and respect for the cubans and what we believe in. >> reporter: the president will also enjoy the great american pastime on cuban soil. he'll have prime seats for an exhibition baseball gae between the tampa bay rays and the cuban national team. chris martinez, cbs news, havana, cuba. republican presidential candidate ted cruz, the son of a cuban immigrant, blasted the president's visit to cuba in an op-ed on politico. cruz called the visit so sad and so injurious to our future as well as cuba's that obama has

corrupt castro regime with his presence on the island. cruz writes his father was beaten and ordered by his father. cruz's father says he fought for castro before coming to the u.s. those claims, though, have been disputed. well, tomorrow, republican voters in arizona and utah cast ballots in presidential contests. the gop front-runner is spending the day in washington. donald trump is scheduled to address a high profile jewish lobbying group and he'll also meet with influential presidential lobbyists with growing support that many gop leaders are working to derail his campaign. don champion is here in new york. don, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. >> reporter: the trump campaign hopes today's off-the-record meeting with republicans will help some of the establishment coalesce behind the billionaire. still, it seems, the effort to stop trump from becoming the party nominee is stronger than ever. trump is also expected to face unprecedented pushback during a key speech before a powerful group today. stand by me

washington. gop presidential front-runner donald trump will be in the nation's capital today rallying party leaders behind him. >> if we bring our party together, we will win. we will win by numbers that you've never seen before. >> reporter: trump is set to meet with nearly two dozen republicans. he is also scheduled to deliver america's pro i'll group. a critical speech to apac, denouncing what they call trump's hate speech, a group of rabbis plan to walk out of the speech. >> get him out of here. get him out of here. >> reporter: trump is still poised to beat rivals ted cruz and john kasich in the winner take all state of arizona tomorrow. even still, the possibility of a contested convention hangs over his head. >> you have to have a majority of the delegates in order to be the nominee. there is nothing magical about the number. >> reporter: favored to win in utah tomorrow, cruz contends he can stop trump in the delegate count. >> we have a straightforward path to get to 1,237 delegates and secure the republican nomination before the

>> reporter: on the democratic side, bernie sanders is counting on wins out west to slow hillary clinton's momentum. >> when the voter turnout is high, we win. when the voter turnout is low, we lose. >> reporter: clinton leads sanders by close to 800 delegates. and after taking the weekend off, clinton will campaign in arizona today. she is also scheduled to speak before apac, along with john kasich and ted cruz. bernie sanders is the only presidential candidate who is skipping the conference. >> don champion here in new york, thanks a lot, don. a threatening letter was sent to donald trump's sister. maryanne trump bayer is a judge on the u.s. circuit court of appeals in philadelphia. the fbi is aware of the incident and is working with the secret service. last week, trump's son eric also received a threatening letter.

gabby giffords campaigned for hillary clinton in arizona yesterday. she survived an assassination attempt talked about gun control. clinton will be in arizona today. before she head to arizona, though, clinton, like donald trump, will address the american israeli public affairs committee conference. ted cruz and john kasich will also speak today. we will have more on that coming up on "cbs this morning." the south korean news agency reports that north korea fired a missile and several other projectiles eastward into the sea of japan. the reported launches came three days after the north reportedly fired a medium-range missile into the sea for the first time since 2014. the pentagon says a marine was killed by isis in northern iraq. staff sergeant louis cardin was killed saturday when he was hit bay mortar fire. the incident took place outside of mosul, a city held by isis. cardin is the first u.s. service member killed in iraq since october of 2015.

authorities are trying to figure out why a retired state trooper held up a turnpike toll plaza and killed two people. sunday morning at the toll, about 65 miles west of harrisburg, police say clarence briggs pulled a gun and ordered two employees into the administration building. briggs shot and killed a toll collector and a security guard. >> the commonwealth and the turnpike and the pennsylvania state police will extend the resources necessary to make sure we find out exactly what transpired this morning and to make absolute certain that our system is secure. >> briggs was shot and killed by state troopers. an indiana's sheriff's deputy died following a good night with a suspect on sunday. two deputies were serving arrest and search warrants at a home north of indianapolis. when they got inside, they were met with gunfire. the other officer was wounded. the suspect was found dead

>> good morning. wall street traders are hoping to continue the upward trend in stock prices. last week both the dow and s&p moved into positive territory for the year. . the dow jones gained 381 points for the week and nasdaq gained 46 points. the fbi and the national highway safety administration have issued a warning that modern cars are increasingly vulnerable to hacking. the fbi issued a public service announcement last week. it cites demonstrations in which researchers took control of various car functions, like braking and steering by remote control. the hacking attacks can occur via wi-fi when the car is moving slow or fast. paint manufacturer sherman williams is buying valspar in a 3.3 billion dollar deal. it will expand sherwin williams

the combined company will employed about 60,000 peoples. sherman williams will remain headquartered in cleveland but there will be a significant presence in minneapolis where valspar is based. zootopia remained on top at the box office the third week in a row. the disney animated film earned $38 million in ticket sales this weekend. the divergent series allegiant opened in second place with 29 million in sales and miracle from heaven grabbed the third spot. no dramatic announcements are expected at today's apple eventual ooevent. event. apple is expected to announce a new addition to iphone. analysts expect apple to introduce upgrade to its 4-inch iphone 4s. tomorrow, apple will be in court over the fbi's demand to unlock an iphone connected to the san bernardino shooting. paul mccartney has begun the process of reclaiming the rights to many of the songs he and john lennon wrote for the beatles. back in 1985, michael jackson outbid mccartney for the right,

it's good! wisconsin has won it! >> the wild finish for wisconsin last night. with just two second on the clock, the seventh seeded badgers got a quick three at the buzzer to put them over second seed xavier and through to the sweet 16. bronson koenig said he was just channeling his inner steph curry when he sank the winning shot. march madness certainly lived up to its name this weekend, filled with buzzer-beaters and upsets and overtime. northern iowa took texas a&m to two ots but a&m got the win in the end. it looked like an upset in the making for stephen f. austin taking sixth seed notre dame to the wire but 1.4 seconds on the clock, rex kluger's tip put notre dame ahead. the irish with through to the sweet 16 for the third year a row.
