>> reporter: this intersection is aligned between the county and the city. according to the owner of that day care, that has made it difficult for all of his safety concerns to be addressed. >> first thoughts were was anybody injured, any kids inside. no kids were inside. >> reporter: a gut wrenching scene for parents and this business owner. an suv crashing exactly one minute after opening their doors. >> they opened at 6:30. it happened at 6:31. >> reporter: nobodies with hurt but it raises major concerns. it's not the first time that a car has barreled on to this property since richard and his family bought the business in 1999, there have been several crashes and close calls. >> this is the first time we've had a vehicle go into the vehicle but we've had vehicles hit the deck. >> reporter: according to county records, 41 crashes at this intersection in the past five and a half years. he says the county added these guardrails around his property

crashes like this one. now he says the problem is cars speeding down independence parkway. a road that is maintained by the city. >> the city would not put any strips or warning lights or anything because it said the city is not happening on the city side. >> reporter: the city lowered the speed limit but he opens more is done to prevent what could be a tragedy. >> i'm not the expert on what type to put there. that's up to them. but they do need some type of other warning system than lowering the speed. >> reporter: the good news is that code enforcement has taken a look at the property and they say it's structurally sound and children are still allowed to be inside. >> the county public works department is reviewing the crash to see if there needs to be any changes made there. our request to the city went unanswered there. now the most accurate weather team in florida. abc action weather. >> good afternoon, everybody.

imagine losing your home because of phony paperwork. it is happening around the country. a rising problem but there's a way to protect yourself. scammers are filing fraudulent quitclaim deeds. one woman lost her family home and living on the streets for weeks. now the pasco county office offers an alert system that will let you know when any official record in your name is filed. >> one of our employees recently got married and received an alert and she thought what is going on. she looked and it was her marriage license that was recorded. it was legitimate. >> the fraud alert system is free and available in many bay area counties by going to the clerk of courts website. also in pasco county a woman is accused of trying to run over a officer during a chase. lisa myers was starting to dose off while driving along highway 19 this afternoon. when they tried to stop her, she took off. later almost hitting a new port richey police officer who had

hitting a police cruiser and then hitting a different police car. after ending up on the lawn of the police department. she is in jail tonight and detectives are checking if she was using drugs or alcohol at the time. the white house is reacting to the battle to repeal obamacare. it is on its way to the president's desk. they want to defund planned parenthood. white house promising to veto that bill. republicans say they're sending a message while democrats call it political theater. now ted cruz is the republican front runner in iowa. and he is firing back about his berth place. rival donald trump questioning whether cruz is eligible to be president because he was born in canada. he says he should get a federal

it was a dream or not. >> reporter: a long hug with mom proves that this is a dream come true. >> i see them now so i guess they brought a little bit to me. >> reporter: reporting in polk county, jake peterson, abc action news. >> stephen will graduate this year and plans to attend college here in the u.s. laura. a homeless man is dead after deputies say he was hit by a car this morning in tampa. investigators are telling us that jodi carol was on a concrete median along fletcher avenue. he suddenly stepped out in front of a jeep. the driver couldn't stop before hitting him. carol had just turned 50 years old two days ago. a man offered to sell a laptop to two people but then robbed them at gun point. they contacted the victims about buying the computer. they paid $230. while testing the computer, bryant pulled a gun on them and took the cash and the laptop.

a man is pulled over by a trooper. that wasn't the worst part of his day. he had just learned that his child is dying from cancer. what happened next surprised everybody. rodney gibson was driving through indiana earlier this week after learning that his daughter's breast cancer is not agoing away. he was so upset that he didn't realize he was speeding. that's when the trooper stopped him. after learning his story he decided not to give him a ticket but what he needed, his prayers. >> i took my hand off and knelt there on the side of the truck and took his hand and said a prayer for him and his family that he would have the lord's peace during this difficult time. >> gibson was so touched that he started crying. he even called the trooper's post to share appreciation. a bare area animal shelter putting a spin on a tv show to help homeless cats. launching game of homes.

now pretty much where they should be this time of the year for a change. we've either been 15 degrees above normal or 10 degrees below normal. dew points are still comfortable in the 50 toss low 60s. but they too will be rising as we have juicier air rolling in. that will give us a better chance of showers starting later on tonight. 66 and mostly cloudy at the airport. the dew point is 60. and we hit 72 today in tampa. that's actually about right. normal 70. the morning low is 56. that's about 5 degrees above normal. last year this time we were at 67. the record is 83. st. pete, skies are sunny and 65. comfortable. and the winds not nearly as strong as they have been the last few days. light west/southwest at 5 miles per hour. sarasota 65 with a dew point of 59. pretty nice deiah cross most of the area. even with the cloud cover early on. burned off in the afternoon.

sunny skies. but you can see how that cloud cover streams in from the gulf. oh, yeah. that's a sign of things to come. we see showers. for that matter if you look at futurecast this evening, we even have a chance of rain rolling in after midnight through tomorrow morning. while i don't think the morning commute will necessarily be terrible, it's not going to be all that sunny either as we have a good deal of cloud cover and maybe another round of showers rolling in by later on friday morning. so in a sense kind of a one-two punch with another round sunday. so friday morning, there are the showers. a few more in the afternoon. even again in the evening. while i'm not ready to call them widespread by any stretch of the imagination, we see more clouds than sun on friday. even on saturday. speaking of saturday, if you outdoors this weekend, either early saturday or late sunday. those are the two timetables. sandwiched in between, you've got some rain rolling in.

about a severe threat. most of the energy which is so common for our area stays off to our north. at least with this particular front. for the boaters, winds primarily out of the southeast at 10 to 15 knots. temperatures in the lower 70s. there are your upcoming tides. sunset at 5:51. all right let's check out florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. 40% chance of rain on friday. i think it starts first thing in the morning across the area. you see the rain saturday? that's later on in the day. sunday's rain could very well be before sunrise. so the second half of sunday looks good. but once that front comes through, it's a cold front and we cool off. 63 the forecast high on monday. i think tuesday morning the coldest morning that we will see oust the next 7 days. and if we could make it a 20- day forecast, i think the following week pretty good chance of a freeze across part of the area. all right, thank you,
