had the rain earlier today. we wake up with these heavy sheets of showers rolling through the area and then by lunchtime, the sun is out. that's the kind of pattern we are in. systems move in and out rather quickly. we have more to come. temperatures right now in the skies. a few clouds begin to increase by later this evening. temperatures falling back into the mid-60s but as i mentioned, that's one system. we are tracking and other headed from the midwest. i will track how much we are going to get and what happens behind it in a few minutes. breaking news about the man accused of ambushing a philadelphia police officer. telling officers today he did it in the name of islam. take a look at surveillance pictures. those details are coming to light a short time ago. with those surveillance videos, todd walker is looking at the investigation now. >> reporter: philadelphia police released surveillance

running to officer jesse hart and shooting him 13 times. he was hit in the arm three times. the gun archer was using was apparently a stolen police gun. the shooting happened just before midnight last night. jesse hart is a five year veteran of the force. well it does not appear he was specifically targeted, local police say archer was targeting law enforcement. >> the new v -- who he was shooting at. the way he got his arm inside that vehicle, he knew what he was doing. >> reporter: archer had pledged his allegiance to isis. the mayor of philadelphia made sure to point out the attack had nothing to do with any faith but was instead an attack by a violent criminal. the police department tweeted out its thanks for the outpouring support for officer jesse hart as he those are his recovery asking everyone to keep him in thoughts and prayers. investigators say archer appears to have acted

cooperative at this time. the philadelphia police department issued a warning asking officers to stay vigilant because of a prior directive to watch attacks on law enforcement. two refugees arrested in california and texas on terrorism related charges. they had been communicating with each other. both appeared in federal court today. we are still waiting to get the sketches as cameras are not allowed in federal court. the one from hugh's -- houston is charged with providing material support to isis and the other from sacramento charged with making a false statement regarding international terrorism. it's unclear what led to their arrest and it does not appear they were planning an attack inside the u.s. meanwhile, apple, facebook,

justice department on the topic of terrorism including finding ways to block terrorists from using social media to recruit new members. and finding ways to make it harder for them to carry out attacks. we are also expecting the department of homeland security and the justice department to establish a special task force to counter violent extremism here in the west. so far, no official announcement has been made. today, st. petersburg mayor once again made it abundantly clear the city wants to keep the rays at tropicana field hoping the city's new proposal will help just do that. new incentives for the team to stay highlights the agreement and the front office seems to be listening calling it a step in the right direction but here's the thing. it also gives the rays leeway to explore sites while allowing the city to exercise their options as well. >> for the rays, it really doesn't necessarily impact them. the bottom line is it doesn't impact them and i believe

breaking news this afternoon. drug kingpin joaquin el chapo is in custody after months on the run. we showed you how he broke out of prison in mexico last july using an elaborate mile-long tunnel complete with lights and violent -- and ventilation. mexican authorities assayed ended with a should out today. based on a tip, they stormed a coastal town home arresting el chapo and five other people, even seizing all their weapons. five other suspects were killed in that raid. mexico's president tweeted out today, mission accomplished. we have him.

about the rest although it will all be in spanish. also now updating you want tonya couch, the mother of the so-called affluenza teen in court today on charges of hindering the apprehension of a felon. she did not enter a plea today but did say she is now higher a lawyer. a judge will decide if her 1 million dollar bond should be released -- reduce but says if she posts bond, she will have to wear an ankle monitor and turnover her passport. she is accused of helping her son ethan escaped to mexico after violating probation for a deadly drunk driving crash. his defense was that he was too rich and spoiled to understand the consequences of his actions. he is still in mexico fighting extradition. also, right now one of the most popular but heartbreaking stories on our website: a mother found dead in her daughter's hospital room. cincinnati police say 31-year- old -- the 31-year-old died of

we are dealing with. in fact, this is very typical of el nino. here you get the southern stream, jet, coming all the way in. you see the clouds coming in. that's the kind of pattern we are looking at. see the next one dropping in across the gulf and heading our way. not expecting severe weather with this but a line of showers in storms moving in by the time we get to saturday afternoon. early on in the day, i think you will be okay if you have plans but then clouds will flow to your west and you will see showers and storms rolling in. then again, fast-moving features here that will be gone by the time we get into sunday. still some leftover clouds in the morning and by afternoon, breaks of sunshine. it should work out to be a fairly decent weekend despite the brief interruption saturday night. temperatures as we wake up on saturday morning in the low to

breaking news in north tampa. a manhunt underway for a home invasion suspect. a woman and a one-year-old child were inside a home on shelley court when a man broke in, started firing shots but didn't hit anyone thankfully. you are looking at aerial pictures from just moments ago. police are telling us the suspect and the victim know each other and that person ran from the scene. the woman was taken to the hospital with a back injury. the child was not hurt. police are right now trying to search for the suspect. also right now, we are learning the 30-year-old man who shot a philadelphia police officer three times last night said he did all of it in the name of islam. that's what the police are telling us right now at this hour. surveillance video catching the eerie scene, you will see in the screen the suspect, edward

toward jesse hartnett's police cruiser. what you don't sees the officer eventually getting out of the car and shooting back. the officer is now recovering and will need multiple surgeries. the suspect was arrested and also taken to the hospital. people county sheriff's office is releasing new surveillance video hoping to catch whoever killed three and injured a fourth in a lakeland home. the video is grainy but it's of the suspect's vehicle leaving the scene. it's a white commercial ford van. it has writing on it but detectives can't make out what it says. they do believe the shooting was because of and jack -- an unpaid drug that. they are looking for three men with caribbean accents. they believe they were the shooters. mexico's president is speaking about the capture of drug kingpin joaquin "el chapo" guzman. mexican authorities saying it all ended with a shootout.

the beach art festival, 22nd annual, also from 10 am to 5 pm. that will also see showers and storms by 5:00. otherwise, temperatures a very pleasant 70. sunday, we will be behind the frontal boundary. still some clouds in the morning, some sunshine but temperatures nice and cool for this time of year into the upper 60s. i will see you one more time. will take you through the weekend and next week with a big cooldown in a few minutes. if you're a college student, you should listen to this. your scholar may want to skip the all night studying and just apply some extra eyeliner instead. a new study finding that good- looking female students get better grades by a .5%. i'm not saying that, i'm saying that's what the study says. with students taking online courses, attractive students didn't get more -- higher grades. this suggests your physical appearance gives you an edge in the classroom but what isn't clear is whether this is actually related to confidence and social skills.

>> again, there is growing demand as both the public and private sector markets look to bring new projects online in the new year. one of them is this hilton hotel in downtown cleveland. >> this project here at the hilton is a county project.>> reporter: eternity construction has a large crew working to finish the hotel weeks before cleveland hosts the republican national convention. contractors are feeling more confident they will see a spike in project like this in the next year, however they are feeling less confident they will find the right people to fill the positions. 70% of firms say they are having difficulty finding employees and early as many predict labor conditions will remain tight or get even worse over the next 12 months. turner is using that staying by offering programs with local colleges. >> we try to average anywhere
