temperatures are colder. we're talking about 20 to 25 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time. so we're near 40 degrees in crystal river, lecanto, homosassa, floral city now at 41. it's possible that we'll end up in the upper 30s before those temperatures start coming back up, in citrus county. in hillsborough county we are in the 40s as well but it's in the mid-40s so tampa 47 now. brandon 45. lutz at 44. pinellas county close to the beaches temperatures are also in the mid to upper 40s. 50 degrees now at st. pete beach. that's one of the warmest spots across tampa bay. as we head through the day all of that sunshine will warm us up but not even to average temperatures. in fact it will be a little while before we get back to average. lots of sunshine, cool and dry today, we'll be in the mid-50s by noon and topping out in the low 60s. at least this weather is supporting a good commute

something fell there but we're all good, all safe. 6:02. in pinellas county a man trying to break into a home is in a hospital this morning after the homeowner says he caught the thief in the act. >> deputies tell us the homeowner saw the intruder and shot him. abc action news reporter corey dierdorff is at the sheriff's office now. you're learning more about how this all unfolded. >> reporter: good morning. pinellas county sheriff's office still piecing together the pieces but here's what they've told us so far. that homeowner caught that suspect in the act while he was breaking into the garage and that homeowner, police say shot him. this was in unincorporated pinas county and 2:00 p.m. sunday afternoon a burglar tried to break into a home, was stopped in the tracks by the homeowner as he was trying to break in.

homeowner fired a warning shot and get this, the burglar still didn't leave so the homeowner fired again and this time hitting him in the leg and causing serious injury. that intruder was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries, and the names of the homeowner and intruder haven't yet been released. we'll bring you updates on air and auburn line at abcactionnews.com. live in pinellas county, corey dierdorff, abc action news. just hours from now we may finally hear from a baltimore police officer who stayed silent since freddie gray's death in police custody. >> today caesar goodson will be the second baltimore police officer to go on trial. he was driving the police van to the station when freddie gray arrived critically injured last year. goodson is the only one of six officers charged in gray's death who never told his side of the story to investigators.

6:15. thousands of people remain without power after a tornado rolled through cape coral saturday evening. that twister with winds of at least 111 miles per hour destroyed one home and damaged 78 other structures. you saw governor rick scott who lives not far from there in naples when not in tallahassee, toured the affected neighborhoods yesterday. florida southwestern state college flew a drone over the

survivors say they had to act fast to protect themselves because the storm hit with hardly any warning. that tornado was on the ground for seven minutes. three people suffered injuries, thankfully they are minor. shay, we're coming up on the peak time for florida tornadoes at least in terms of intensity. >> yes. exactly. certainly, with our next cold front that rolls through we'll be keeping an eye again on any possibility for some stronger weather but at this time it

>> on average we should be starting around 50 degrees ending the day at 70. but it takes us a while before we see temperatures that are back close to average. in fact we get there thursday morning but the afternoon is still below average. on friday we start to see the temperatures coming above average but we have a strong chain chain that day. that is not a cold front. strong chance of rain that day. that is not a cold front. it's a front that rolls on, still warm saturday and sunday is when the next cold front comes through. at this point the models are not showing strong chances of rain. so we'll keep an eye on it but doesn't look like a terribly wet day but the cooler air will run in, in the afternoon bringing temperatures back below average.

this week and the warmer temperatures really don't stick around for long. that is florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. you can find me on facebook and twitter. good morning. some good news, westbound fowler back open now. our reporter on the scene of a possible road rage incident in temple terrace, adam winer tells me the westbound lanes just reopened at river hills drive. we're still seeing a little bit of a slowdown due to police activity so if you're heading out the door now you might want to use fletcher but again fowler back open now. let's open our cameras and see what it looks like outside on the interstates, i-275 and mlk, traffic starting to pick up a little bit as you head in towards the downtown tampa area. let's check our drive times on 275. this is heading southbound, 13 minutes from the apex to i-4, five minutes from bush to i-4. and six minutes from downtown tampa to the howard frankland bridge.

6:24 on this monday morning. happening now -- italian police are investigating the murder of a young artist from florida, her body was found in an apartment in florence. >> today an autopsy scheduled to be performed on ashley olsen. her boyfriend found her strangled on the bed of her florence apartment over the weekend. police haven't named her boyfriend as a suspect. >> she grew up in st. john's county near st. augustine. she left the u.s. a few years ago to be closer to her father who is a teacher in italy. italian police are conducting a

haven't named suspects yet. this morning philadelphia police are on alert for radicalized men who may target them like the gunman accused of shooting an officer last week. officer the weekend a woman told police that gunman, edward archer is part of a group that has at least three more members. the report says those three men frequent the area where officer jesse hartnet was shot and seriously injured. the fbi now investigating the tip. the philadelphia police department is having all officers work with a partner until further notice. if your kids have practice outside after school today temperatures are going to be cool even at 3:00 this afternoon. we are going to be reaching highs in the low 60s today. it is going to be cool and dry through the afternoon. and becoming chilly again after sunset at 6:00 temperatures are already falling back into the mid to upper 50s. so yeah, probably an extra layer for this morning, and even later on this afternoon and into this evening.

at the bomb of the hour the live crew is working a possible road rage incident that left busy fowler avenue closed for hours overnight. first the music world remembering a man who broke the mold overnight. we learned singer david bowie passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. hundreds sharing the news from our facebook page of his death at age 69, some of our viewers references their favorite songs, some writing so long major tom, others referring to his alter ego saying rest in peace ziggy stardust. bowie known for changing his look and sound over his career which spanned five different decades. i was about 10 years old in the early 1970s, remember being a little confused by some of the early album covers. from disco to pop to glam rock, he charted hits starting in the

part of downtown tampa, nice and dry and clear. as the skies have been clearing the last few hours the temperatures have been falling so it may even be a degree or two cooler if you're headed out the door in the next hour. than what you're seeing on the thermometer now. so 39 in inverness, lakeland 49. sarasota 50. as we look farther inland around bartow we have 45 degrees, winter haven 46. brooksville 41. around tampa bay most of the temperatures are still in the 40s, the exception? st. pete, warm spot this morning at 50 degrees. as we move through the day we've got a lot of sunshine, the winds will be pretty reasonable today, just light breezes, we're only up to 56 though by noon and we top out at 62, almost 10 degrees below normal for this time of year. below average. so yeah, talk about a cool day ahead. the good news, none of this causes problems for the morning commute. so janelle, hopefully this is working in everyone's favor as they get out the door on a monday morning. what are you seeing now? driving conditions are great. the roads are dry and

good news about the fowler closing overnight westbound, that is now reopened. that i just a, west of i-75 so you're good to go there. here's i-75 around 301, in the brandon area, if you're heading out the door now, maybe apollo beach, it will take 15 minutes to get to i-4. checking our cameras on i-4, this is a -- right as head into downtown tampa, you can see we're not starting to see that morning commute congestion just yet, you still have a pretty good drive time on i-4 into downtown tampa as you can see here, all in the green, 23 minutes from client road to downtown. nine minutes from 75 to 275. let's check with action air 1 flying over 275 and busch where you can see a lot of cars on the road. i did just check drive times, just five minutes still from busch to downtown tampa.

you're looking at about a 14- minute drive. back to you. 6:32. more breaking news to get to. investigators are looking into a possible overnight road rage case in temple terrace. abc action news abc action news reporter adam winer from fowler avenue with more. >> reporter: a quick update on fowler avenue. it could have been a really bad traffic situation for folks coming off i-75 to fowler avenue. the road is back open so that's good news for people going to work this morning. you don't have to worry about that. this was hardly your usual traffic accident. you can see from the video that landed in to a pedestrian traffic signal. police believe it happened because the driver was involved in a road rage incident involving a motorcyclist. the early report was that the driver had accidentally cut off

motorcyclist reacted very violently. exactly what happened between the two vehicles and the driver is not exactly clear but we're told that driver had to be taken to a local hospital. the front driver's side window of the car was busted out and it was a -- a weapon may have been involved in whatever happened. we saw police investigators out here overnight, combing, walking literally on fowler avenue eastbound, looking for bullet shell casings as they try to collect evidence to piece together exactly what happened. as i mentioned that driver rushed to a local hospital but the motorcyclist never found in this case and police suggested they may have gone back to i-75 and cleared out of the area. so the search is on this morning so whoever was responsible for hurting that driver. for now live in temple terrace, adam winer, abc action news. taking action for your health. new research out overnight is now revealing just how big an impact smoking is having on our children. the centers for disease control

apex to i-4. if you're headed out the door this morning conditions are at least dry but boy, is it colder. you can't tell that from the picture on the rivergate tower tampa camera but again visibility is good, temperatures this morning are about 20 to 25 degrees colder than what they were yesterday at this time. that translates to temperatures in the upper 30s. in citrus county we're at 37 now. brooksville 41. zephyrhills at 45. tampa and brandon at 47 degrees. our warmest temperatures are from lake wales to ruskin and st. pete and farther south and they are all near 50. so pretty cool by our standards for this time of year and this time of day. in this stretch of weather, it's going to last for a little while. in fact we don't really get to the average temperatures where mornings start around 50 and we end the day around 70 until friday. and at that point we're going

not because of a cold front though, because of a stationery front with an area of low pressure that rolls along it from the gulf, that's where we see our heavier soaking rain for the week. the temperatures remain on the mild side, at least through saturday. until our next cold front approaches on sunday. that will bring us a few showers especially early in the day with the cooler air move in behind it. we'll top out again on sunday in the mid-60s. those warmer temperatures certainly don't last this week. this is florida florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. find me on facebook and twitter. four teens accused of taking turns raping a woman in a new york city park, off the streets this morning. suspects range in age from 17 to just 14 years old. there's surveillance video. shows the suspects in a deli just before the attack thursday night. new york police say the victim was walking with her father when the suspects pointed a gun

new york city's mayor says the attack disgusts him but other elected officials are questioning whether the police notified the public quickly enough. >> why did it take two days before this was reported? the women of this community should be notified immediately when you have such a savage assault. >> new york police say the girl's father ran to get help but it took him nearly 20 minutes to track down two police officers in a patrol car. no one ever called 911. two of the suspects' parents turned them into police. happening now -- four major countries including the united states are trying to lay the groundwork for peace with the taliban. diplomats from afghanistan, pakistan, china and the u.s. are hoping to reach an agreement that could result in taliban leaders coming to the negotiating table for peace talks. taliban insurgents have been fighting in afghanistan and pakistan since 1994. this morning the aid group doctors without borders says someone bombed a hospital

if your commute takes you past lakeland regional airport don't worry if you see fire or smoke coming from the airport this week. no cause for alarm. it's not an emergency, like the fire department will be hosting live fire training exercises at the airport through friday. good morning. we have a crash reported on the veterans, this could get worse as the morning pushes on because the veterans a very busy road and this crash is in the southbound lanes at hutchison. we have the left lane blocked here, i did check your speed, about 22 miles an hour leading up to this crash. all right, let's check drive times on the veterans so you can plan your morning accordingly. 29 minutes now from 54 down to 275. 23 minutes if you're starting out at van dyke to 275. the good news, once you get to waters things start to open up a little. you're looking at just seven minutes from waters to 275. let's check your drive from the east on i-4, 29 minutes now from county line road to downtown.

road to 75, and 12 minutes from 75 down to 275. morning drive from the air, i- 75 in fowler, as you can see a lot of cars out there on the road, about five minutes delay due to the typical congestion from the apex down to the downtown tampa area. temperatures this morning are anywhere from 20 to 25 degrees cooler right now than they were yesterday at this time. so you're walking out the door in citrus county, temperatures in the upper 30s, by the time you get around spring hill we're in the mid-40s. new port richey 48 degrees, wesley chapel 45. lakeland also 45. clearwater, tampa now at 47. farther south temperatures are near 50 degrees but the bottom line is, all of our temperatures are below average. did you see that? tampa just switched, just fell to 45 degrees.

we're going to see a lot of sunshine today that will help to warm us up some but we're still only in the mid-50s at noon, then topping out in the low 60s today. definitely below average but no rain in sight for a couple of days, our highest chance of rain this week will be on friday but that is not a cold front. that's just a -- area of low pressure that works across the gulf, gives us heavier soaking rains. our next cold front holds off until sunday and that's when we return to the 60s, so that warm- up where we see temperatures above average doesn't last long. we get to wear our boots. >> yay! looking for something to spend that recordsetting $1.3 billion jackpot on consider the playboy mansion. the six-acre estate goes up to sale in the next month. expected to sell between -- i guess somewhere north of $200 million. a drop in the bucket if you win that jackpot. whoever buys it will be
