>> reporter: the robber someone trying to rob the store was shot in the head by the clerk. i want to show you the scene. investigators going in and out of the store where this happened. here's what we know so far, the robber went inside with a knife. he approached the clerk that happened to have a gun close by underneath the counter. the clerk pulled the gun out, shot the robber in the head. we know there was another witness inside of the store that the police are questioning, right now. >> the clerk appears to be we are questioning him to see exactly what happened, but it straightforward what happened between the witness and the clerk, the store were is very, very consistent. >> reporter: this is the hope food shop

right now, where it's in the 50s, it will be dropping in the 30s. we'll talk about our next severe weather threat coming up in a few minutes. covering sarasota county, a mother and father in jail accused of starving and beating their own children. alleged abuse so severe, detectives never learned how to chew food because they never got any. serena following the developments, where are the kids right now? >> reporter: well, wendy, right now, they are in protective care at this time and all of those disturbing allegations, like some of the ones you just talked about, detailed in this criminal affidavit. >> that's horrible. >> reporter: the extent of the alleged child abuse at the hands of this mother and fear has whitney douglas sick to her stomach. she lived next door to the two for years if that's government

>> i'm happy they got caught. the kids can't go through that any more. >> reporter: cording to detectives report, the twins, only four looked like skeletons, one only 22-pounds, the weight of an 11-month-old baby. doctors telling detectives -- >> everybody is born with the ability to chew. if you don't use it, you can't develop it. unfortunately, they have never been able to chew food in their lives because they have never been fed food. >> reporter: the mother changed her story several times. there. two kids had marks. doctors say from a belt beating. douglas is heartbroken. she suspected something because she did not see the kids. from now on, never again -- >> if you have ideas, something

>> i have no idea. stupid, not trying to get into anybody's business. >> i know you had food. i have seen them go to the grocery store, many times, you are bringing bags and bags, but wasn't feeding the babies, that's a shame. >> reporter: police tell us there could be even more charges at last check, the couple remained in jail. we placed a call to dcf and we are waiting for a return phone call. serena, thank you, still developing, investigators in jacksonville believe they have found the remains of little lonzie barden. he disappeared last summer. his mother and her boyfriend were charged with child neglect.

>> a guy just got shot in his car. >> where was he shot? >> we just got off at 5nd and we saw a motorcycle go by him. i heard a loud noise. he is moving really slow. >> >> reporter: the victim is from came. we was shot temple terrace. at the hospital in critical condition. the motorcyclist drove off after shooting that driver. tonight, investigators are not sure what lead up to that shooting >> hillsboro county deputy hoping these surveillance pictures can identify an armed robber. he escorted a male starbucks employee to a nearby mcdonald's where he forced him to withdraw money at gun point and took off running. it happened at the starbucks 301 south. if you recognize the guy seen

officially a freeze warning in effect for coastal hernano county and citrus county. temperatures expected to be 32 or below for several hours. some of the new numbers are hinting it doesn't get that cold. regardless, bring in the pets. if you want to cover the plants up north, you can. i don't think it will be a big deal. what could end up being a bigger deal is the threat of rough storms later this week, specifically friday. temperatures, upper 50s northern counties, low 60s across most of the metro. here are the forecast lows, right around 32 in our northern even close tore 50 as you get closer to the beach, so, we'll see, regardless, you will need the jacket, the sweatshirt. bundle the kids up because it will be for our area, unusually chilly, clear skies, 58 in

pete, mid-50s. we stay totally clear and the winds drain directly out of the north, that would be how we get our coldest air. once the wind veers off the gulf, there is no way you will freeze. there is too much warmth coming in off the gulf of mexico. every now and again some clouds, clouds act as a blanket. just as a blanket keeps you warm at night. clouds keep the heating of the day -- that's why temperatures rarely drop down to 32 when we have cloud cover. tomorrow morning, skies should be mostly clear, you take that out of the eindication, even some high clouds at times can bump our temperatures up three or four degrees. the way you play this, this will be cold, whether it is 32 or not. maybe, maybe not, mid-to upper 30s at the very least across our northern counties and low 40s elsewhere with a lot of sunshine covering the entire

again wednesday. later on in the week. this is what we have been talking about with a progressive flow and el nino situation, you get storms every four or five days. the one on friday could be from be pretty nasty, still too early to pinpoint. highs 50s low 60s. there is the cold air we talked about. no doubt about that, even if we see a freezing situation up north, it will be unusual cold for us. 70, some folks will be closer to 60 and then 670. for the boaters, winds out of the northeast, 10-15 knots. later on in the week, we start to see more of a southerly flow, boosting our temperatures up, but it will increase the risk of stronger storms. i haven't talked about the tornado that moved through

right now at 5:00. a planned sickout at detroit public schools, leaving thousands of kids with no place to turn. check out this incredibly long list posted on the detroit schools facebook page. look at this, more than 60 schools closed because of teachers calling out sick, all of them over the weekend, the district posted this warning to parents that a large number of schools would be closed.
