surrendered last night to police, detectives say he hit daniel monsalva when the two were going across the street to buy ice cream. a polio vaccination center became the sight of a bombing in eastern afghanistan. so far no group claimed responsibility but al-qaeda has been linked to previous attacks on centers there. militants claim that the polio vaccination programs are used by western countries to spy on them, as a way to sterilize muslims. crews in oakland, california are working to free a plumber trapped in a 10-foot trench for more than 12 hours. fire officials say that worker went 13 feet underground to work on a sewer line. plywood holding back the dirt gave way and caused the dirt to cave in.

vacuums are being used to remove the dirt. last night president obama delivered his final state of the union address at the u.s. capitol. he laid out his agenda for what he hopes is a busy eighth year in office. >> the president also warned election year fear mongering could put the country's economic and security progress at risk. >> reporter: president obama spoke for about an hour here at the u.s. capitol, struck an upbeat tone about the current state of our union and the future but a less positive tone about the current state of things in washington, was also critical of some of the rhetoric on the republican campaign trail. >> the president of the united states! in pasco county, cameron pollum, abc action news. if you're heading out the door now temperatures are a few degrees higher in most areas than they were yesterday at this time. we've got a little bit of cloud cover, that is helping to act like a blanket and keep us just a little warmer. in tampa now 50 degrees. in clearwater 53, same in st. pete. we have wind speeds only about 5 miles per hour coming from the north. we should be starting the day around 51, ending around 70. so we're a bit closer to average this morning than we've been the last few mornings. with current temperatures to the north in inverness at 41, 1 brooksville 45. hope flu -- hopefully some counties will be warmer today than yesterday. brandon 48, tampa 50. bradenton 53. inland lakeland 45 and bartow 46.

we'll have nice mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon, rain unlikely, even though we have a little shower activity in the gulf. it's not likely any of that will work inland. more of the same, high pressure still in control, winds today will be light from the north. so that will give us breezes but it's not going to be anything dramatic or that we'll have any big impact on comfort as we reach highs in the mid- 60s, looking pretty decent. certainly that warm-up is starting to be felt and kicking into gear. tomorrow we'll be pretty close to average for this time of year. then on friday that is where things really start to change. we'll have a good chance for soaking rain during the morning drive, so expect that you could have a slower commute that day. there's even a chance for a few thunderstorms and we're watching to see whether or not any of those could be strong to severe. at this point a little hard to tell but we'll know more as we get closer. then on saturday, it's that in between day, mix of sun and clouds, 71 as a high. by sunday or next front rolls through.
