administration is not looking and we get up and we actually exercise, because study after study has conclusively shown that children who are up and active are performing better. >> reporter: what's the message you're hoping -- why don't you feel like state legislatures are not hearing your message? >> they are not listening to the teachers or the students. my own children are 13 and 15. and it's a little late for them. they've been in this culture of high stake testing for a -- stakes testing for a while. but children that i'm currently teaching, my children as well, as well as my grandchildren. i have two grandchildren. they live in virginia. but i'm worried about them as well. all the pressure that these kids are being put under. all the pressure the teachers are being put under. it's wrong and it's got to change and that's why i'm heading to tallahassee. >> reporter: not just this bus but three buses just from polk county alone.

helped hurricane polly take shape and strengthen into a category 2 storm on tuesday. that makes the earliest tropical cyclone on record. in the central pacific. fortunately it's over 1,000 miles away from hawaii and doesn't pose a threat to land. let's check this out. the atlantic seeing some tropical activity as well. our first named storm of the year. this is subtropical storm alex becoming the first system to claim a name for the 2016 truck hurricane season. this -- atlantic hurricane season. this one in the far eastern atlantic off africa but packing winds and heading to the asores. could make a mess there as it moves up to greenland. shay in the next couple of days, but wow haunt that? the warm -- how about that? the warm sea surface temperatures. that will do it. and i know the question always comes next is does that mean we're going to have an active hurricane season here in tampa bay this year and what's happening now has no direct correlation to what our

so again, we'll continue to monitor that as we get closer to june. all right a look at what's going on right now on titan doppler radar and you can see absolutely nothing. we're nice and dry as we're starting the day. the futurecast showing a lot of cloud cover across the area. and yeah, that is exact mr. hare seeing -- what we're seeing outside right now and through the day, we will continue to see a lot of cloud cover. around healthcare we start -- 4:00 we start to see a little moisture starting to build and maybe an isolated shower before sunset. especially south of tampa bay or inland. but the better chance for rain starts after sunset and that's when we start to see the hit or miss scattered showers. and 6:00 tomorrow morning, you can see how the rain is really just starting to build in around the area. but the models have started to pull back a little bit for the early morning commute. on how much widespread rain we'll have. and start to show the rain chances picking up around 8:00 in the morning as this low gets closer to us. and that whole frontal boundary gets closer to us as well.

off and on and even beginning at after sunset tonight and continuing through the day tomorrow. but the peak time where i think we'll have the most widespread rain, the heaviest rain and when we will be watching for that slight risk for a severe storm to develop will be between 8:00 in the morning and about 2:00 in the afternoon. now if the timing of this system changes at all, that will impact the timing here for that chance for severe storms so we need to keep a very close eye on on this and my suggestion would be make sure that you have storm shield on your mobile device so you can be alerted wherever you are tomorrow if we do have any warnings. temperatures this morning, near 50 degrees. we're going to top out today in the mid 60s. again tomorrow the biggest concern for weather over the next seven days and then our next front comes through with colder push of air but not quite as stormy just a chance for some showers especially early. all right janelle how are things looking don roads right now? you -- on the roads right now? you know i've been checking the cameras, no problems to

authorities say the militants imitated the terror actions used in paris throwing grenades and engaging in a gun battle with police. seven people died including five of the attackers. police say in november, they received a warning from the islamic state group that there would be a quote concert in indonesia soon that means an attack. so far no group has claimed responsibility though. new this morning a manatee county man is behind bars preparing to go before a judge for abusing his girlfriend's son so badly the little boy died. investigators stay jon stewart was watching the boy last month. just before the 14 mold had to be ---month-old had to be rushed to the hospital. exams revealed the boy had a traumatic brain injury and several broken ribs. according to dr. documents stewart told authorities he had a seizure under his watch. to the tampa bay area, defense secretary ash carter is heading to the macdill air force base to update on the military campaign against the terror group.

6:38 now on this thursday morning. and updating on the story. investigators now say the house explosion is that killed a family of four in ohio was arson. the office says they know what caused the explosion but they're not releasing any details. it happened monday night about 15 miles southeast of cleveland. it killed a couple and their two young daughters. peekaboo street is charged with domestic violence for pushing her father downstairs, she was areased in utah last month. she was fighting with her dad and pushed him downstairs and locked him in the base. . the police report says he had

heavier rain and a slight heavier rain and a slight chance that we could see some severe storms some damaging winds and even a brief tornado especially closer to the coastline as this system rolls on shore. and the most likely timing as it looks right now is from 8:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon. for that heavier stronger line of storms that will roll through. this timing could change some. so what -- the best thing to do today is just make sure you don't have loose items arnold the porches and -- around the porches and make sure that you've got some like storm shield on your mobile device to be alerted as you are on the go. now we'll be topping out tomorrow with temperatures near 70 degrees as a result of a warmer moist flow of air ahead of that system. and that warm air sticks arnold for saturday. by sunday though our next cool front rolls through. this time behind the rain, it will mainly be in the morning, we will see the cooler drier air settling in and it sticks around for the beginning of the next workweek. that's florida's most accurate

-- forecast, you can find me on facebook and on twitter. dan? thanks shay. 6:45. happening today a pivotal vote in st. pete. that could impact the rays' future at the trop. the team has been asking for years of course for a new stadium and today they'll be given permission to start the search. lindsey logue is live at the trop. the third time. why is this time different? >> reporter: well, dan, november is election in 2015 added two new council members to st. pete city council. both of them not only back the rays but they support development and redevelopment here at tropicana field. that vote coming from city council this afternoon. we do expect them to pass this proposed amendment between the city and the team. that allows the rays to explore other stadium options in pinellas or hillsborough counties but also ahows the city same -- allows the city time to entice the rays to stay put. several stipulations.

and see what it lookalikes at 275 and kennedy as you come across the howard frankland. some problems the last couple of mornings and right now hour seems -- however seems to be pretty normal. let's check the drive times to see how long it's going to take you to cross the bay. nine minutes across the casaba. eight across the howard franklin and seven minutes across the gandy bridge. all right, let's check the drive times on the veterans starting to slow just a little bit. 26 minutes from 54 down to 275. 21 minutes from van dyke to 275. and eight minutes from waters to 275. and keep in mind we still have an accident right underneath the veterans at waters blocking the westbound lanes. all right, let's check in with action air one. he is flying right above i-275 or i-75 and i-4 where you can see traffic is moving along but still have those typical delays due to the morning drive as you head in and out of the downtown tampa area. shay in. all right, most of our temperatures are in the low 50s

tampa at 50 and largo 53. palm harbor 52. in brooksville and then farther north into citrus county, temperatures are in the low to mid-40s. and down to the south, around osprey, 55 degrees and lake placid also at 54. through the day, it's going to be a cloudy day and get a little sunshine here or there but i think the extra cloud cover will help to limit the temperatures again today to the mid 60s. and mostly dry i'm saying at 4:00. i can't rule out a stray shower but the majority of the rain chances will be going up after sunset tonight. and then continuing off and on through the day tomorrow as that area of low pressure moves across the state to our north. now along with that we will have a period of heavy rain and also a slight chance for an isolated severe storm as that system moves on shore. so we'll be keeping a very close eye on that beginning tomorrow morning. know all morning long we're going to be working to get the name of the powerball winner
