5:47 pm
chance of some isolated severe storms, maybe even a quick tornado, much like what happened in the naples area last week. but in terms of a widespread situation, we simply don't see that happening. what we do expect, though, will be some heavier rain, some strong storms, more than likely midmorning through early afternoon, although i do think our northern and coastal counties could pick up storms just a little bit earlier, even possibly around sunrise or shortly before. bottom line, it is a morning event tomorrow. 68 and mostly cloudy. the dewpoint, 49. now, that right there in itself is significant. that dewpoint's going to have to rise significantly tonight for us to have enough energy and enough moisture for storms. we believe it will, because a warm front is going to be coming on through tonight. we hit 69, which is actually about right. we hit 50, which is about right. so for the first time in a long time, minus the clouds, today would have been a normal day for january 14. mostly cloudy in st. pete, 64 degrees.
5:48 pm
the humidity at 72%. winds out of the east. in sarasota, cloudy, 68. there will be some showers this evening. there will be a little bit of rain overnight. but the best chance really in my mind, the only chance, of severe weather would be friday morning, at least for tomorrow. then we talk about sunday morning. first things first. clouds rolling in, there they are. you can see the showers well offshore. not to mention, down around venice, areas to the south, that's the warm front actually lifting north. so temperatures for a period of time tonight will actually rise as that front moves through. there it is by 8:00, allowing you to lift north. then by tomorrow morning, it's gone. temperatures will be mild and there comes the frontal boundary. now, the way this is going to play out, we will have a pretty solid line of rain in the morning. there will be one or two spots that could see a bit of rotation or some heavier storms. where those develop, that is all about just analyzing the radar as it approaches. be sure to check out shea tomorrow morning.
5:49 pm
we'll be around covering it all day, because even through lunchtime, there is a pretty decent chance of some embedded stronger storms. but as quickly as this rolls in, it's out of here. by tomorrow afternoon, skies clear out and from friday afternoon through friday night and in through saturday, we're mostly sunny. i think saturday turns out to be a very nice day, but by sunday morning, the next round of rain and potentially strong storms comes in. here's the good news out of it. some folks could see an inch, maybe inch and a half of rain, but there is wind with this. i would not be shocked if we see a bit of coastal flooding tomorrow afternoon at high tide. that is something if you live along the water, you might want to remember. either way, you do not want to take the boat out tomorrow, absolutely you don't. there may be gale warnings offshore with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s before the rains arrive. so as i said, look for winds primarily out of the south up to 25 knots. it will be rough, and small craft advisories could very well be changed to gale warnings. here's a look at florida's most
