. we begin with breaking news. chilling video from west africa. al qaeda claiming responsibility for an attack on a hotel that is popular with westerners. good evening, wendy ryan has been following this. >> the attack at burkina faso, a country in western africa. witnesses describing a horrific scene on the streets and inside the hotel. this is what we know. we learned the hotel now on fire. witnesses say commandos storming the building used explosives which started the fire. government media reports six terrorists are involved in the hotel assault. right now, we're being told at least 20 people are dead, another 15 are injured. and the attackers are holding

cnn reporting the u.s. government agreed to provide a drone to help with surveillance. the u.s. embassy is warning americans to stay away from that embassy and downtown area. al qaeda is claiming responsible for that attack. jamison. and in tampa, police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident at del mabry and west north b street. investigators telling us the rider lost control of the motorcycle, was ejected and killed. it happened around 10:00 p.m. again, moving. >> a family finally gets justice. the detectives spent a year building a case against a driver who hit their mom, stopped to look and drove off. maryel isa -- marisela burgos >> reporter: the reason why the investigation took a long time was because detectives were waiting for forensic evident to come back. even though it's been one year

still extremely painful for the victim's family. there hasn't been one day that 24-year-old michael has not thought about his mother. >> she was awesome. >> reporter: since last february, the 52-year-old's family has wondered who hit her as she crossed the street. the they have been in the dark for nearly a year until today. >> i don't feel like justice is served yet or that this is a harsh enough punishment. >> reporter: winterhaven detectives arrested the man placing him as the driver of the car that hit her. >> at first, i was not bad at the a, you -- guy, you know. i thought it was an accident, but after time, he's just a [ bleep ] coward. >> reporter: may didn't talk to detectives about the night purr song was killed. john, do you have any remarks? he hasn't citizen anything, but investigators have no doubt that he and his car were captured on surveillance video that night. >> why did you leave?

jenkins was holding a long- standing grudge. more than five years ago, the victim turned jenkins in for stealing from the union where they worked. everybody. on. finally out of the picture and and also, damage of 50 miles per hour winds there. two confirmed tornado reports and severe thunderstorm warnings all over the place and it was a nasty day weather- wise. later tonight into tomorrow, what is left of that moisture is going to give us fog that fog will be dense. as quickly as we cleared out today and tomorrow, we have got another area of rain rolling in diceyier for our immediate viewing area overnight tomorrow night and the first thing on sunday morning. i will give you an update on that and time it out for you.

the tampa shock jock case. the florida supreme court suspending steven diacco, diadams and another. all three lawyers are accused of orchestrating the dui arrest of the rival attorney campbell who represented todd mj schmi did, t. they said, quote, the supreme court order's today was the right decision because of their despicable roles in the setup and arrest of phil campbell. the legal careers of the three men have new come to a permanent end, end quote. residents of a tampa apartment complex forced out of homes because of the landlord's mistakes and now, they are being forced to pay the bill while not living there. we first told you about this two weeks ago. cameron is taking action finding whether or not this is even legal. >> i'm furious,. >> reporter: another week. >> it's over $1,000.

>> and we haven't been there since december 23rd. >> reporter: for an apartment he's not living in. on christmas eve, he and his wife and daughter and dog were forced from their apartment after a water burst in the pipe in the ceiling. he's staying in the hotel because water destroyed everything they had and since then, his landlord told him it's not their problem. >> and they're saying that is what your insurance is for. >> reporter: he's not the only one either. others have found themselves in the same situation. some more than once with the same result. nothing replaced and nothing paid for. we made numerous calls over three days to udr property management out of colorado with no response. >> hi, shelby, this is cameron -- >> reporter: martin lawyer, a bay area legal service iss, said they're not getting off of the hook that easy. >> the landlord can not get off by requiring renter's insurance. that doesn't eliminate the landlord's liability for damage caused by the build.

>> reporter: while most require insurance, it's meant to cover damage caused by the renter and natural disaster but not the landlord's mistakes. >> whether the landlord has insurance or not, the landlord is liable for the mark that -- of all of the tenant's property damaged. >> reporter: he said he has one piece of advice for those fining themselves in this type of pinch. >> if you want legal advice, seek it right away and don't wait. >> reporter: in tampa, i'm cameron. dennis mentioning earlier cleanup is continuing after high winds ripped the roof off of the place. 12 businesses were evacuated while fire crews inspected the building. the 50 miles per hour winds hit around 11 a.m. the fire crews determined there was no structural damage. the building had two roofs. this was the top layer and there is no interiors of businesses ruined.

>> yeah, we were all arguing about it. it's having -- . >> something about it, right? yeah. >> we're skeptical these days. >> we are. >> i get it. >> what do you expect? >> you're going outside now, the skies have cleared up. boy, what a day from severe thunderstorm warnings to wind gusts, 50, 60 miles per hour to tornados and then by early afternoon, everything was quiet and stayed that way. the moisture is still around. that is why i do believe that fog is going to be an issue first thing in the morning on saturday. the temperatures from the upper 50s to lower 60s and that is where the dew points are as well. that is a good indicator of why we're going to see the fog. check it out, visibility 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, near zero across part of the areas. any plans early on saturday morning, you might want to leave a few minutes early and tag it slow. it won't be wide spread but there will be patchy dense fog. by 9, 10, it's gone and leading

with temperatures warming up into the 70s. and tomorrow night, that is another story entirely. this is a very interesting and tricky forecast, too, the next few days. tampa at 63; clearwater and saint pete right now at 59. we had 73 today and that was once the sun returned and the storms finally moved on down to the southeast. normally we're at 70 over 51. and satellite picture, as i said, bright and early this morning, you might have looked out of the window. geez, it was really coming down for a period of time. heavy rain. most folks got a half an inch to three quarters of an inch of rain. it didn't last long but it came down when it did. all of the gusty winds as well. now, let's talk about the next 24 to 36 hours. if you were watching the last few days, we were saying we felt as though our risks locally of any tornados or widespread severe weather was non-existent. it may stay down to the south. tomorrow morning as i said, we

burn off leading to a very remember wall, very pleasant afternoon with temperatures in the mid-60s. eight:00 tomorrow night you don't see anything on here. this is how it can play out. you might sleep through the entire event, but there will be an event from 3:00 a.m. saturday night, sunday morning until 7 a.m. this line is coming through and there is no way around it. this is coming through. i think the setup is a little bit jucier for us in our immediate area, which means i would not be the least bit surprised if we picked up an isolated tornado not in the cape coral area or the fort myers area, but somewhere closer to home. we'll be here all night tomorrow night if conditions warrant. bill will be here tomorrow to give you updates, of course, i'll be live. i will do my weather updates over the weekend and weather chats and on facebook and abcactionnews.com. and by 6:00 sunday morning, it's almost gone. by 8:00, it is.

7, you can sheep through this and we're hoping that we're not going to have to worry too much of the threat of the widespread severe weather. it won't be widespread. i do believe there will be isolated areas to worry about and so does the storm prediction center. we're now what is called a slight risk but still it's higher than it was just 24 hours ago for today. you get what i'm saying, it's something we have to keep our eyes on late tomorrow night into early on sunday. and light look at the accurate seven-day, 75 on saturday and storms arrive late saturday and early sunday. a look at next week. we get cold again, sunny with a froze possible on monday night and tuesday night. and thank you, dennis. it was the play-off atmosphere tonight at emily arena.

and one of the most humbling. a long time. long time in the making. >> reporter: he began the coaching career at the high school level and moved on to the college ranks and became a head coach at boise state and arizona state and spent 9 years as an offensive coordinator in the nfl but never a head coach. >> and i look forward to the challenge. one of the best things you can do is surround yourself with a great staff and trust your gut. >> and he wanted someone to establish a winning culture and eventually bring championships to tampa and he was all of those things. >> reporter: and in one season, he was responsible for turning the bucs offense from one of the worst to the team best in history. and don't expect him to stop. >> the favorite parts of the football, it's a strat jay and game management part. i think i would be foolish to give that up.
