who is talking the truth? who is way off base? good morning, thank you for joining us on abc action news. >> a much quieter morning today compared to the weekend as we bring you traffic and weather together. we have some cool temperatures. >> that's the story before our next comes in. in the week. for now, we're looking at temperature in the 40s out there. you have to factor in the wind as well because it's very chilly, makes it feel like it's in the 30s. so if you are going to be headed out early today you are going to feel it. in fact even if you head out midday i think you'll notice the cooler temperatures that are certainly with us now. upper 40s, look at the wind, that is key this morning, north winds anywhere from 10 to 15 putting that extra chill in the air, literally. look at the numbers here. 38 in inverness. 39 brooksville. these are not temperatures, they are feels-like temperatures. i think these are more important because this is what

temperatures. when you have the wind that is how it will go, lower 40s as far as what the wind chill will be like. 61 by this afternoon. so sunny and cool. but very quiet, i think as far as conditions, certainly on the roadways, no fog, no rain to contend with. just chilly temperatures and gusty winds early this morning. let's check on our holiday morning commute with janelle. doesn't get much better than this, no crashes or breakdowns to tell you about, if you're heading out you should have no trouble getting to where you need to be. here's a live look at i-275 and fowler, again no crashes or breakdowns, up to speed in both directions, just 13-minute drive from the apex to i-4. let's talk about the parades that are happening today. one in tampa, through ybor city, from noon to 4:00 so expect some road closures especially around this parade route. it starts at east 21st avenue and north 15th street.

damage and devastation from the deadly line of storms that passed through early sunday and claimed two lives. this tight-knit community still cleaning up after the ef-2 tornado that touched down here. this is what is left of the home of steve and kelly wilson in duette. they were in their mobile home with adult son and four tornado touched down tossing their entire home several hundred feet and ripping it apart. steve wilson was pinned under the wife survived the brunt of the storm but died in the back of an ambulance from an aparent heart attack. the adult son and kids are hurt but are expected to recover. the community now pulling together to help salvage what they can and members of the community watching over the property making sure no one comes here and tries to loot. updates from the hospital, so stick with us on abc action news. those updates will be on-line and on air.

news. we're feeling for everyone in manatee this morning. in sarasota governor rick scott sauteed damage firsthand telling victims he will do whatever toke help. still declaring whether to call this a disaster area, that would make people eligible for more financial help from state funds. governor scott says it's too early to make the decision but those affected hope it's sooner rather than later. >> hopefully we can get a little relief. like you often hear, fema money, whatever it might be to offset some expenditures. >> business managers we spoke to say it will take months to fix all the damage and for now the community is relying on city crews and neighbors to do the best they can. the bay area wasn't the only region hit by the storm system. the damage stretches south to collier county. our scripps sister station there captured these images of downed trees and signs, power

of cape coral where a tornado touched down just last week. from all the people abc action news crews talked to this weekend we learned for some it was a cell phone warning system that alerted them about the storm and the tornado watches and warnings. many people credited our stormshield app for letting them know before the tornado struck. they say it was not long before hearing the roar of the storm. they have a message for others. >> take those cell phone warnings seriously. i was awake, i heard it, not awake enough to pay serious attention to it. it was only three minutes later that happened. >> you can download stormshield to your foible phone now through the app store. we send you an alert any time there's severe weather on the way. homeowners now face the long and tiring clean-up process and government leaders are urging caution especially when it comes to throwing away all that debris from your property. sarasota county officials say

next to the road, not in the street, but that way it doesn't block the emergency vehicles. crews will pick up that debris as soon as possible. workers have also been out in the communities clearing the storm damage from the roadways but they warn if you don't properly prepare that debris you could be held responsible for it. the county also says do not stack debris, near utility poles or power lines or next to cars. don't block mailboxes, fences, hire hydrants or storm -- fire hydrants or storm drains. democracy 2016 coverage now -- the three top democrats squared off last night. >> the last debate before the iowa caucuses, that are just two weeks away now. hillary clinton, bern been and martin o'malley faced off in charleston. near a church, where nine worshippers were shot and killed over the summer.

local station teeth up with teeming up with politifact. statements hillary clinton made control. she made accusations on bernie sanders' stance on the issue. let's listen. >> he voted for what we call the charleston loophole. he voted for immunity from gunmakers and sellers which the nra said was the most important piece of gun legislation in 20 years. >> the research found accusation true. sanders did flip flop his stance on liability exclusions for gunmakers and sellers. in 2005 sanders voted for a mesh they're provided broad liability exclusions, after months of defending the vote his position started to evolve in november of 2015. throw months ago he said he would look again at the liability question. on saturday's, the campaign

the candidates last night talked about our nation's health care system and debated the affordable care act. hillary clinton talked about where we stand now. >> we now have driven costs down to the lowest they've been in 50 years. >> that sounds good but our politifact team says it's false. though the rate of growth has been at historic lows the actual per person cost of health care increased steadily the last half century. only the rate of decline slowed down, a different measure. the compline campaign already acknowledged -- the clinton campaign already acknowledged that valerie misspoke. hillary clinton misspoke. >> this is a nbc news "the wall street journal" poll. sanders would do better than clinton in a hypothetcal

rescue crews are not hopeful they will find the 12 missing marines who disappeared in a helicopter crash off the

so far there have been no signs of any survivors but they have found debris. it appears to be from the two blackhawk helicopters that sergeant adam shower is among the missing -- sholler is among the missing marines that went missing last year. will return home. another deadly police drawing protests. >> some protesters are chanting "police are the enemy" and "no justice no peace." >> this shooting is different than the one in nearby ferguson that sparked weeks of violent protests, you will remember in 2014. >> police say an armed man held up a kfc restaurant when an officer confronted that man, he refused to drop his gun, then raised it toward the officer. that officer fearing for his life fired two shots, the man died. authorities now investigating. they say there's video from the restaurant.

shooting in utah as well. police say an officer who was shot yesterday morning near holiday has passed away. right now another officer still in the hospital after all this. it started when a car hit a pole, the officer started to chase the suspects, at some point they say shots were fired. one suspect is still out there this morning. the officer killed was a veteran of the police force serving 18 years, he was a husband and father of three children. in palm beach county two investigations are underway now after a teen was shot and killed by deputies. palm beach sheriff's office and state attorney's office have probes into the traffic stop where a 19-year-old was pulled over in belglade. police say he tried to run and turned and pointed a gun at the deputies chasing him. we're told that the deputy who fired the shot killing that teen will remain on paid administrative leave, protocol as investigators take a closer look at the dash cam video to

accounts of what happened. the teen's grandfather says that people told him that his grandson was shot in the back while running away. spacex's fourth attempt to land a rocket in the ocean started well. >> but didn't have the finish they hoped for. >> three, two, one. >> that's the launch. the launch of the falcon 9 rocket went off without a hitch yesterday. things went downhill after the rocket was placed in a satellite orbit. spaceex's secondary goal was to land it upright in a platform in the pacific. it appears ok as it touches down. they think they are in the clear. then you can see it started to wane there. it tips over. look at the force of this.

the founder of spacex tweeted one of the four legs didn't lock into position that caused it to tip over. he believes ice that built up due to the heavy fog at the launch may to be blame. we're looking at this, incredible video. so close, they got to perfect that or get as close to it before we can talk about manned space flight with that particular technology. checking in across the area, we're definitely cool. that is the story the next few days. temperature really tumbling, looking at 30s and 40s for overnight lows, factoring in a little wind, makes it feel even colder. in fact it's so cold across the eastern u.s. now we have snow across portions of arkansas. not much. perhaps a dusting, maybe an inch in spots but just an indication of how cold it is, south. that is chilly stuff. dry air and the cooler temperatures will be continuing with us the next few days. of course we have warm bodies of water on either side of the

wind shift we'll begin to moderate temperatures. i don't think we'll get hot but before the storm system arrives friday temperatures likely get back up to the 60s and 70s. this is the next system we're watching here. timing and intensity still to be determined here, just a heads up by friday we could be dealing with another line of showers and thunderstorms. right now it doesn't look to me like it would be a repeat of what we just had over the weekend here but we're in the pattern so that may change and we'll keep you posted every step of the way. tempts for the rest of us, 45 in brandon. 44 zephyrhills. inverness 41. factor in the wind, about 20 to 25 miles per hour and feels like 30s and 40s for most of us. so chilly start, hopefully you get to sleep in a little bit or at least stay under the covers for a little longer. then we'll warm up by the afternoon. if we can call 50s and 60s warm. we'll take it this time of year. we're above average now. we're talking about the cool trend continuing the next few days.

cause problems, no fog no rain. so i think we're in pretty good shape. how about volume? that should be low as well. light traffic out there this morning. we are expecting not a lot of cars on the road because it's a holiday. this is i-4 just west of i-75, no problems, no crashes or breakdowns there. if you're heading out the door in lakeland it will take 20 minutes to get to i-4. let's check your drive in pinellas county, 275 and 22nd avenue south. again up to speed in both directions, i just checked, 68 miles an hour your average speed from the sunshine skyway down to the howard frankland bridge. checking some of the drive times on the majors, starting u.s. 19, this is southbound from tampa tamp road to east bay, 10 minutes. several hundred people today are taking part in the florida month-long python challenge.

registered to hunt for the invasive burmese pythons across the everglades. the snakes started to take over the area in the last 20 years. fwc says pythons are one of the main reasons for declining populations of native animals in the everglades. the last hunt was three years ago. hunters bagged 68 snakes. there are tens of thousands of them in the everglades. what seems to have been a prank in palm beach county is shaping up to be a case of animal cruelty. florida fish and wildlife say a live shark wagon found in a condo -- was found in a condo swimming pool last week. a woman says she saw kids throwing it in the pool calling it a prank. this is the kind of shark that was found in the pool. the woman says she thinks the kids caught the 5-foot shark while fishing and it had several hooks in its mouth. fwc confirmed it was removed from the pool and released into the intercoastal waterway but the woman says she doesn't think the shark will survive and it was barely moving after

to be with us, scratch that -- cold air really is what we're talking about here. temperatures in the 30s and 40s for us. that is certainly cold and well below normal for this time of year. early on today we'll be in the middle 40s, factoring in the wind it will feel a little cooler. we've shown you 30s as far as the wind chill. milder, warming up a little by the time we get to noon with temperatures at 56. i think we'll top off in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. then falling back, i'll tell you how low we'll go tonight and when we're tracking the next storm system. see you in a few minutes. 5:55. still a big mystery this morning, who bought the other winning powerball tickets? they were sold in southern california. >> in florida we've checked into this, depending on how they want the money they have 60, even up to 180 days to actually come forward and get it. >> we may wait a while. last wednesday's powerball jackpot $1.5 billion. the largest in u.s. history. we do know this -- some of it
