the good news, if you don't like this kind of chill, is yesterday. we'll be topping out in the mid- 60s. layers. also the good news, none of this causes a problem on the roads. so janelle, what are you seeing now? once you're in the car you so far so good on the roads, st. pete. no crashes or breakdowns pushing 70 from the sunshine skyway to the howard frankland bridge. this is i-4 and park road, fhp eastbound lanes but i've been this area, haven't seen anything and as you can see traffic is flowing nicely now in both directions. drive times show you how long it will take to you get to the tampa area from lakeland.

>> the veterans is also looking great, all in the green. they are bringing back that road closure at waters underneath the veterans, we've talked about it for weeks. that is coming back tonight. a possibility they say overnight tonight and tomorrow night. so watch for that. 5:02 now. new overnight -- a woman escapes her home after it catches fire in sun city center. started just after midnight near belglade avenue and chevy chase drive. a neighbor said that woman's cat woke her up and the woman saw the flames and got out safely. her cat hasn't been found. the home has major damage and investigation. another family escaping a 2:00 a.m. time. have been an electrical fire officials say the people woke detectors, a good reminder as to why they are so important

take a minute and check yours to make sure it's working. manatee county, homicide detectives are searching for a killer. a young woman's body found in a state park yesterday dumped on the side of the road. abc action news reporter adam winer is tracking the latest on this case from the manatee county sheriff's office. what are deputies saying about the victim? >> reporter: we've learned from deputies that it is 23-year-old jordan finland who died, deputies admit they still have a lot of unanswered questions but the one thing they are sure, based on the evidence they have so far is that all murder. her body was spotted tuesday afternoon along the 8600 block of bishop harbor road, a road that cuts through the terracia state park in palmetto. visitors told us it's a popular usually very quiet. detectives though spent the evening in the park collecting

that knew finland personally. a big question for investigators, still, had long had her body been in the woods before she was even found and of course the big question, what happened to her. right now manatee county deputies awaiting the results of an autopsy to figure out exactly how finland died and of course anyone with information urged to contact the manatee county sheriff's office. for now live in manatee county, adam winer, abc action news. 5:04. we've seen the damage done and now we're hearing the frantic 911 calls that came in during that storm sunday morning. in sarasota it was pure chaos, people were calling, were worried about what might have happened to family and friends in that community. >> i'm not sure the house next door is completely ripped to pieces.

killed in sunday's storms in duette and we learned their funerals are set for saturday. many more are continuing to recover from the devastating damage. it's the same storms that has the better business bureau in sarasota county leaders sending out a warning, they don't want to see storm victims getting victimized again when it comes to home repairs. people in one sarasota neighborhood tell us they are fed up with shady contractors. with the clean-up far from over we're told people who claim to be contractors are hounding neighbors offering help with roofing, flooring, water one person says they've been hit up 25 times in two days. >> here's my card, call me, i'm the best guy in town. that type of stuff. situation? best thing to do, contact your insurance company, get licensed in the meantime we're taking action for you, for more advice on how to spot a phony

action news mobile app on your smartphone. dozens of cancer patients and the doctors are preparing to go to the state capitol to make their case for why it's so important for lawmakers to keep funding cancer research. in about a half-hour buses will leave from moffett cancer center carrying 50 patients, caregivers and staff. they are calling today speak out for moffett and are going to share their stories in tallahassee. the hope is for lawmakers to keep funding cancer research. cancer is the leading cause of death in florida. 5:06. clearwater police need your help to find a missing man that could be in danger. i have a photo of 82-year-old bob taylor, police say he was last seen yesterday afternoon in n his home on regency oaks south. he suffers from parkinson's and early dementia. authorities say he usually walks with a walker or cane. they believe taylor may be jacket. if you have any information on police.

open for drivers after propane tank exploded. we broke the story last night on abc action news at 5:00. as the north river fire department rushed to bring this fire under control. the company distributes soil fumigation products. no injuries were reported. in sanford police say they were forced to shoot and kill a group of dogs that mauled five people. this happened in an apartment north of orlando. authorities got a 911 call yesterday afternoon about a woman screaming for help. when police got on scene they found five pitbulls attacking a woman. one officer shot and killed four of the dogs, a fifth was officers. two women, a man and a boy were all taken to a local hospital authorities are still trying to figure out if the dogs lived in the apartment or if they were there with a visitor. 5:07. three violent robbers on the run in ocala. police say they used pepper spray to incapacitate their victims. it all happened at lady jeweler

employees with pepper spray. then out came the hammers, smashing display cases and stealing watches and jewelry. the officers were treated for non life-threatening injuries. a man arrested for stealing bus. surveillance video shows the victim lays his phone on an forgets about it, the suspect sits down and quietly reaches down and pockets that pricey phone. this morning the suspect, dennis walkenhorst faces felony grand theft charges. in hillsborough county a man accused of a crime he didn't commit. >> suspected of breaking into a gun shop the man tells abc action news why he and his three brothers are innocent. xavier navarette was behind bars for nearly two weeks. two people identified him and his brother from surveillance video in october. here's that video. where 42 guns were stolen. >> he says he was out for a run when the crime happened. eventually cell phone records proved he was nowhere near the crime scene.

coming up on 5:14 -- it's a cold wednesday morning. coldest morning of the season so far. 42 degrees in tampa now. 37 in plant city. 30 degrees in brooksville with freeze warnings there. details on your abc action news weather forecast with shay ryan in a moment. breaking news from northwest pakistan. in the last hour the taliban taking responsibility for a terrorist attack on a university killing at least 20 students and professor. gunmen stormed the campus shortly after it opened for classes today. many more are wounded. pakistani soldiers killed all four gunmen. the pakistani prime minister now vowing to wipe out terrorism in his country. the fbi is investigating a series of bomb and mass shooting threats at dozens of schools in at least five states. more than 20 schools in massachusetts received automated calls warning about the threats.

in the northeast along with iowa also reported threats yesterday morning. those threats triggered schools to be evacuated or placed on lockdown. investigators now trying to determine if those threats might be linked. get that promised update on the weather forecast. cold. >> yeah, 30 degrees in inverness now. also in brooksville 30 degrees. hudson a bit closer closer to the coast at 38. in zephyrhills 36. brandon 38. a lot of temperatures in the 30s this morning. a few of them in our northern counties below freezing. so definitely want to bundle up as you head out. if you're getting your kids ready for school you want to make sure they have the long sleeves and long pants on today even though we're warming up this afternoon. we'll still be below average. look at the futurecast. i was just rolling this forward to 4:00. nothing happened. we don't have any rain in sight. no big thick clouds out there. that is the case all the way through to tomorrow morning.

so this afternoon we're up to that is where our warm-up starts to kick in. tomorrow morning most of our temperatures will be in the 40s. then the afternoon will be in the low 70s, even a little above average for this time of year. next cold front rolls through. at this point we're still timing as well as the intensity but it does look like at some point in the early afternoon and then continuing into the evening we'll have a strong chance for some periods of heavy rain, even some storms, i want to keep an eye out for the potential for severe storms. at this point it doesn't look like it's a guarantee but it certainly is a possibility. front it's going to be quite times. we might still get a stray day but most of the weekend is going to be absolutely dry. degrees on sunday. and then into the mid and upper 60s, close to 70 degrees by the

the next workweek. but those mornings are going to start on the chilly side again, from sunday on. that's florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. you can find me on facebook and twitter. good morning. we are starting off with a look at the howard frankland bridge behind me here, as you come across into tampa. just six minutes to get across now but we have been noticing really long drive times across the bridges and up i-275 northbound due to some lane shifts around dale mabry. so you definitely want to leave early if your morning drive takes you on 275 northbound. let's take a virtual drive if you will. we head 275 southbound from the apex heading through hillsborough avenue, with a quick stop here at mlk, traffic flowing nicely in both directions, all the way to the junction, even the junction there still in the green, though it's early this time of morning. again 13 minutes to get from the apex to i-4, your average speed now 70 miles an hour.

on the other major interstates. a pretrial motion hearing is set for this morning in baltimore for four police officers charged in the death of freddie gray. the judge will hear a motion to strike a court order compelling william porter. porter's trial ended with a mistrial in december, he will be retried in june. six officers charged in gray's death, goodson was supposed to start this week but it's on hold now until the court decides whether to order porter to testify. police are making plans to program. it will be with cameras used in a pilot program in october. it came to light after police were involved in deaths like

officers shared positive feedback so far about the cameras. it's expected to take about two years to make sure every officer is fitted with a camera. this morning sarah palin's oldest son is facing domestic violence charges. court documents take 26-year- old track palin allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face monday at sarah palin's home in alaska. her son lives there too. according to the report he punched and kicked her and held an assault rifle near his head as if he was going to shoot himself. he's charged with assault and a domestic violence crime and possessing a weapon. this news comes just as sarah palin makes headlines trump for president. still ahead -- going through her reasoning for picking trump and what this means for his campaign, on abc action news at 5:30. >> the burgers like you have never had before.
