at even below freezing around homosassa to crystal river, lecanto, floral city, incerneness and beverly hills. temperatures in hernando county are also around the freezing mark. our lowest temperature here in hernando beach at 31 degrees. even inland pasco county is seeing temperatures that are close to the freezing mark around shady hills and suds, 32 degrees. the farther south you go and closer to the beaches the more mild the temperatures get, but even in hillsborough county we do have temperatures that are in the mid-30s. this morning tampa 42 degrees. as you look outside this morning you can see that we are nice and clear and dry. things are looking good on the rivergate tower tampa cam as we island. again a really cold start but with highs in the mid-60s we are going to see at least a warmer finish. but dan, i know, this is one of the things that you were sending on twitter very early, this freeze warning, these are

it was 39 years ago yesterday that it snowed in tampa. this picture of a snow-covered car from january 19, 1977, hundreds of you have been commenting and sharing your memories of that day. again as you said it is going to get a little bit colder, below 35 degrees anyway for the wesley chapel area. we're in the 7 oaks area. sunrise today is 7:21. i know many of you watching this morning, you have children that ride the bus to school, make sure you dress them in layers. certainly standing out here, they will need something more than a sweater or sweatshirt this morning. as shay said it will warm up as we head into the afternoon. live in wesley chapel, lindsay logue, abc action news. one place that usually is warm, in your car, right? right now traffic is moving very well on i-275, here we are at busch boulevard, if you're getting on the interstate it will take about six minutes to

checking your drive at i-75, through the brandon area, up to speed in both directions, no crashes or breakdowns to tell you about. if you're heading out the door in apollo beach, just 13 minutes to get up to i-4. let's check the toll roads. 18 minutes on the veterans from 54 down to 2735. six minutes on the selmon from i-75 to downtown. and just five minutes on the selmon from dale mabry to channelside. we are watching these numbers closely, your drive through downtown tampa now, what it's supposed to look like without traffic, just 6 to 5 minutes from i-4 to the howard frankland and same in the opposite direction. but we've been seeing that bottom number increase or almost double because of all the congestion because of the new lanes created through dale mabry. so we'll be watching that. you definitely want to leave a little early if your morning drive takes you through that area. after nearly three months on the run the man who tampa

he's urging cruz not to win because he continues federal government support of ethanol. he says iowans -- cruz supports phasing out a federal policy that phases out ethanol blended in the nation's gas. iowa leads the nation in ethanol production. ben carson puts his campaign on hold after a tragic accident in iowa that killed one of his campaign volunteers. another worker was hurt after the vehicle they were in flipped on its side on an icy road and was hit by another car. carson was in south carolina at the time and suspended his campaign events. on the democratic side bernie sanders is expanding his lead over hillary clinton in new hampshire. according to a new cnn/wmur poll the vermont senator now leads compline by 27 points in the -- clinton by 27 points in the granite state. a 10% increase in the past month.

carter says the u.s. is open to doing more when there's an opportunity to make a difference and he says there is no reason why the u.s. should be doing all of the additional training. the united states has more than 3,300 troops now in iraq. for the first time isis is confirming the man known as jihadi john is dead. he was the english-speaking voice of the group in many of its horrific propaganda videos, some showing him beheading isis hostages. u.s. officials two months ago say they were reasonablably concerned about his death in syria. his real name mohammed emwazi, said he was born in kuwait and it's believed he moved to london as a child. back home, a heads up for parents of school kids in pasco county. an important deadline is quickly approaching to amy to the county's newest magnet schools.

welcome back. 5:45. 42 degrees now in tampa. we're taking action for your health to make sure you know about a health warning, that comes because of those little pests known as mosquitos. a hillsborough county man is already infected with the azika virus. so far there have been three confirmed cases in florida and the state health department says all the patients had recently traveled to south america where mosquitos that carry the virus are becoming more common. only about 20% of infected patients ever show any symptoms. >> person can generally expect to have fever, a rash, possibly red eyes, joint pain. and there's no true antibiotic for this to treat it so it's really just supportive care for the patient. >> this morning the health department recommends you protect yourself like you normally do from mosquitos, use bug repel atlanta and drain

don't have to worry about a slick snowy commute this morning but boy do we have cold temperature out there for our standards. in fact we have been at our below freezing in inverness and brooksville. 30 in hudson now. 37, excessive hills at 36. tampa 42. but these temperatures are still colder than yesterday morning at this time. so as you head out the door you're probably going to want to bundle up, but this afternoon, it will be a little warmer. today. tomorrow. our next big chance for rain holds off until friday, and we rain along with a few storms rolling through, along with that cold front behind it. saturday. this is a similar system to this time. there's a slight chance we could see isolated severe

later tonight. academy award winning actor jamie foxx says he's not a hero for helping to rescue a car crash victim shortly before the pickup burst into flames. was under the influence, speeding when he lost control and flipped self times. when he landed in front of california. that is when foxx ran out and helped pull the man out just before the pickup caught fire. >> as i'm getting him out, i said you have to help me get to leave you. you. >> foxx also says another emt stopped to help. that driver who crashed is now recovering with broken bones and a punctured lung but he is expected to survive. 5:50. coming up -- say cheese. hear the deals available in celebration of national cheese day. >> a special connection
